  1. So, last night the 7th level party was ambushed by 3 first level Hobgoblin Rangers in fortified positions. By the time the fight was over, the party and their horses had sustained over 100 points of damage and two horses were dead.

Player: So, we can skin the horses and take the hides, right, after we loot the hobgoblins?

Me: Dude...you just killed every ranger here!

  2. Hey. I'd like to point out that just because a tiger is huge and has claws doesn't mean he can't purchase tiger-shaped armor from a techsmith type guy and mount a howdah with a big gun on it for a chimpanzee to fire.

All things are possible when villains have cell phones.

  3. Delays in Real Life have cost me time, but I will try to push for the original promise for a draft completion date. I'm working on maps now, as once you get to flavor text a page a day can be knocked out easily. For the record, Jason has scheduled this product for 2018, but I am confident that there will be a draft long before that date, and hopefully, if space opens up in the schedule for any random reason, we will be able to get it to you before that.

Art is coming in. We have art for Dr. Neopolis, Cherry Blossom, Black Tiger, Imperial Wind, General Hseng, People's Dragon, Golden Fist, Typhoon, and Red Sword. That's a full third of the artwork completed, and we haven't even finished the maps yet. We're doing well.

  4. Aaron Allston ran GMPCs, and therefore, so do I. I've never had problems. As a matter of fact, I have some of the stupidest deaths in my game under my belt. You just have to be careful how you use them.

One of the best things you can do is screw over your GMPC super hard every so often. Because if you do that, whatever happens to the player characters, nearly universally, they were like "Wow, and I thought what happened to my character was bad."

Also, a GMPC can be used to fulfill a role that can't be given to a player character, for instance, "World's Greatest Superhero." He's not built on any more points. He's not necessarily the best at what individual PC's do. See Aaron Allston's comments about adding Lightrune to the group of grim dark stalkers.

But if you have players who are likely to fight over who's the most awesome, take it out of their hands. This works very well in simulationist games.

  5. I use a variety of sources. Modern Events. Social Issues. The news. Old pulp novels. Player Actions. Plots that come from player actions are the best 100 percent of the time. Nothing beats "Do you remember when you did this?" and they shake their heads and say "Yeah. We remember."

One of the best plots I ever ran was about honor killings. A supervillain's sister got honor killed, so she threatened to nuke a middle eastern city unless the government held the people accountable. Into this situation came the PCs. Do they ally with the villain? Do they fight the villain? Do they hunt down the killers?

Twist: The Killers have called upon Muslim superheroes to protect them. Not all the muslim superheroes agree with honor killings.

The fight was BRUTAL when it finally came. But man, that was a great story.
