  1. Re: Turakian Age: Elf Thief? Thanks for the suggestions. I especially like James' spy suggestion. I guess part of my problem was properly explaining to the player how these elves are not like she played her D&D characters of the past.
  2. For those of you with experience or interest in the Turakian Age setting, I have a question about a potential character. I am going to be GM'ing a TA game soon and one of my players want to play a rogue/thief type, and she wants that character to be an elf. She has played a similar type of character in D&D (and AD&D et al) for years. My question is about how appropriate do you think this would be for an Ambrethelan Elf? From what I can gleam about the Elves of the Turakian Age, I am not sure how one would get motivated to get into these types of pursuits. So how does an Elf grow up into a thief? And, lastly, which of the Twelve Clans would she belong to? I would guess she would be a Fendirililiqwan, but I would be interested in other opinions. Thank you in advance to the assembled masses!
  3. Re: Valdorian Age Allow myself to support myself. Here's Darren's January statement. http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24231
  4. Re: Valdorian Age If I remember correctly, Valdorian Age is Allen's next book after DC:TAS. I think Darren mentioned an anticipated January shipment date for VA.
  5. Re: Turakian Age: Why should I buy it?
  6. What else does TA have? .. a swamp full of religiously-crazed frog-men... .. an ancient city that was completely destoryed by one pissed-off dragon centuries ago for no apparent reason.. .. a benevolent "kingdom" rules for generations by one family who see themselves as only stewards of a lost empire, thus never taking the title of king for themselves.. .. a kingdom of civilized orcs who have learned to farm, build cities, and are reknown across the world as master shipwrights.. .. an entire "race" of men who have been cursed to never be trusted.. .. trolls, orcs, ogres, shark-men, giants, dwarves, dark dwarves, elves, dark elves, man/lion centaurs.. As published fantasy settings go, I think that TA is one of the best I've seen. I only wish there was more information. I don't know how the sales figures have been, but it would be great to see TA get some of the same treatment that the CU gets. I can envision an entire book on the free city of Aarn, or a sourcebook detailing the Sunless Realms under the planet's surface. I plan to start a game within my group soon using the TA setting. A friend of mine are going to co-GM the game, taking turns running various adventures in the campaign. The campaign will be based around a travelling carnival or circus that has been on tour for hundreds of years now.
  7. I know that this issue has been discussed and shot down by The Powers That Be , but I wanted to join the chorus suggesting the HERO should sell a PDF collection of the regional maps from the TA setting book. I don't know how many hours of labor it would require for Keith "Clever Remark Here" Curtis to colorize all the regional maps in TA, but I can't imagine the productions costs would be that high. I know that I would be gladly willing to shell out $10-15 for downloadable color maps in PDF format. No distribution costs involved. Yes, I know that Steve has said that Hero Games is in the business of selling books and not selling maps, but that's not really true is it. DoJ is in the business of making money. They will sell shirts, dice, PDF adventures, even anatomically-questionable clocks to make them money, so why not maps too? In my mind, a GM that uses some nice color maps to run a TA game may motivate his players to go buy the book also. Anyway, I may me beating a dead horse, but I wanted to urge DoJ to reconsider the idea of selling a color TA map file. It would add a lot to me and my group of gamers. Thanks for the soapbox.
  8. After getting my hands on my own copy of the TA setting book, I have been very impressed by the rich, detailed world it presents. I am curious how many people are actually ruinning games set in this world. I have been reading the posts by James Gillen about his TA campaign (kudos to James on a great thread btw) and I would be interested in hearing what others are doing. Anyone? Thanks in advance!
  9. Re: Hero Needs Reviewers!! For what it's worth, I found another review of The Turakian Age over at GamingReport.com. This one is fairly brief but TA gets high marks again. These reviews have worked at least once. After reading these TA reviews, I placed an order for my very own copy. I guess groceries can be put off another couple of weeks.
  10. Re: What kind of Star Hero 'teams' are you gaming? That might have been Monolith's TE game that you're thinking of. He and I sent several messages back and forth about his adaptation of TE and it was very interesting.
  11. Re: What kind of Star Hero 'teams' are you gaming? Ah, so that's the reason! :-) Waiting patiently, Rigel

    Firefly

Re: Firefly The best weekly shows on the Sci-Fi Channel are STARGATE SG-1 (which did begin on Showtime) and THE DEAD ZONE (which premeries on USA and repeats on SciFi). I have very much enjoyed their DUNE mini-serieses and I have high hopes that the new BATTLESTAR GALACTICA series (starting in January) will be as good as the mini-series was.
  13. Re: Standard Equipment Sheets ? Got any ??
  14. Re: Seeking Star HERO player created characters Online I have a character sheet online for a former Army soldirer, former cop, turned bounty hunter. His name is Joseph Trehorn and he was born in the UK, north of London-Berlin. He is 175 base points, plus 75 pts of disads. This character was created for a PBeM game set on a fronter world on the edge of the TE named Cerebus III in 2581. Unfortunately, like many of my PBeM attempts, this game did not last long. Also, if I join Bob's TDSF game on Hero Central, I'll be glad to post that character too.
  15. To add to that thought, Digital HERO #9 has some leftover bits from the TE book that ended up on the cutting room floor. There are some very good suggestions in there for TE campaigns and how to GM them.
  16. If a character buys the Teleportation power with the Increased Mass adder and Safe Blind Teleport advantage, does the safety benefit apply to things teleported with him (both objects and/or teammates)? If not, how does a GM determine which objects (or people) appear inside walls and obstacles? As always, many thanks!
  17. Isn't that what powers Doc Brown's future DeLorean in Back to the Future?

    Firefly

It's great to hear from some other folks who enjoyed Firefly. I was very sad when it got cancelled last year. There are rumblings that Joss Whedon is now trying to turn the story into a feature film, kinda the exact opposite he did with Buffy. It is funny that you enjoyed Firefly but didn't enjoy the Western aspects to it. If you listen to Joss's commentary on the DVDs, he believes the Western influence goes to the core of Firefly. It's not just wearing boots and saying ain't. Either way, I really enjoyed the show too and there have been other threads on here before about what we know exists in the Firefly universe and what we don't know. The hard question to answer when the show was on the air was whether the setting was interplanetary or intergalactic. From listening to some of the commentary, I now think the whole show was set in one solar system. The Alliance controls the core worlds, and folks like Captain Reynolds can and his crew make their living out on the fronteir worlds, further away from the Alliance. But, this is up for debate.

    Super Names

In my current superhero game, we have a guy with Ice Elemental powers (named Kelvin) and we were trying to come up with a name for this living scarecrow guy with plant powers. Unfortunately, someone suggested he was made of barley and grain. The led to the dyanmic duo of .... (wait for it) Kelvin and Hops At this point, we all groaned and left the room.
  20. I can see what you mean what about Ace. I liked her from episode one (Dragonfire I think it was), but I can see why some might not. For me, McCoy was a great doctor -- arrogant, mysterious, playful, impatient.
  21. Re: Whovians Unite! I built is as an Entangle with no range. The only effect that Jon Pertwee seemed to use over and over was his ability to freeze someone instantly.
  22. Re: If you were a Who I actually played a TimeLord in a cosmic-level, multiverse-spanning campaign once. His name was Lord Zoranujastubin, though most people referred to him as Lord Zed ("zed" being the English/Canadian pronunciation of the letter Z). I played him very much like Jon Pertwee's Doctor -- friendly with those who understood and cooperated with what he was doing and no time or patience for those fools who wouldn't listen to reason. I guess I also tried to bring some of the arrogance and mystery from Sylvester McCoy. If I can find one of the old Lord Zoran character sheets, I might upload it some day. We created two versions, a 300-point version and then the 800-point cosmic version.

    Babylon 5 Hero

Yeah, what Aroooo said. I imagine that JMS (and his company) still own the scripts and their rights. To the best of my knowledge, they were made available online to fans through bookface.com before it went under. One script ("Value Judgments") was written by Fiona Avery and features the return of Bester.

    Babylon 5 Hero

Aroooo, have you read the three "lost" Crusade scripts? The "End of the Line" script (which would have been the first season finale) has a few interesting spoilers about the Techno-Mages. I imagine the Techno-Mages trilogy of books reveals the same "secret" (though I have not read them). I, too, would be interested in seeing a Techno-Mage writeup.
  25. Why would anyone be ashamed to admit they have (or had) a crush on Peri?? She has to be the companion I would most openly admit to having a crush on.
