That's my belief as well. Disagreements on how to get to the goal (and perhaps where the finishing line is) will arise, but I'd like to think the majority of both Men's Rights activists and feminists both actually want the same end result. Heck, I would like to think the majority of people in the Western World want that.

Seems like it is a great time to lay back and relax for a bit with an island medley version of a classic.

Wow. That's how you react to a simple question?

Playing the enfant terrible is an excellent way to ensure no discussion happens.

As for men having privilege. Some men do. Some, not so much. We aren't one size fits all.

And, perhaps we aren't so much disregarding commentary as we are picking our battles.

We know how these "discussions" generally go.

If we don't fully agree with the view presented we automatically get labeled with unflattering terms.

Even if we mostly agree, but dissent on nuance or tone or tenor that generally holds true.

We are, as you so aptly demonstrate with your parting line, ordered to bow to your views.

That's not a discussion -- its a dictat. At that point, why bother?

    I'm with Sociotard on this.

While I have never played anymore than a few versus matches of Halo (FPS aren't my thing), I have watched the full story arch for the newest in the franchise. And just like Sociotard mentioned, Master Chief doesn't comment on much of anything. And while he doesn't comment much, you can certainly gleam from his actions / reactions and the few comments he does make, that he feels fear, worries about abandonment, and strives to better the situation the best way he knows how given his resources.

And while lacing messages into games is nice, at the end of the day games are a means to escape the tedium or harshness of reality. Why play a character who needs to go to counseling when you can play a character that takes control of their environment?

Lastly, while I agree that having more positive and expressive male characters is better, I don't think it is fair to claim that there is really that big of a lack. I have played a number of games where leading male characters showed at least some emotional side and how that helped drive the plot. It strikes me that, at least for boys and men, there are bigger fish to fry in the gaming sphere than simple emotional openness of male characters.

I only played the first Halo game, but
    1) Master Chief does run away from danger he can't possibly fight (when Halo is going to explode).  He doesn't comment on being afraid of that, but he honestly doesn't comment on much in the game in any event.
    2) I have no idea how to make a game about expressing fear in a healthy, productive way that would be fun. I've played horror games like Condemned, and while they did a good job letting me feel fear in my seat (in that fun way horror movies do) the character didn't express anything of the sort.
    3) I understand that the lack of Female and Gay characters is a problem, but
    4) I hate it when people conflate that issue with violent games.  I should be allowed to enjoy violent video games and want women in games accorded whatever degree of respect the male characters do, both at the same time.

So, basically, yes boys should feel comfortable asking for help when they are afraid, but asking for help in a game is boring and disempowering.  Feeling mighty is one of the funnest parts of video games.

Most accurate description I ever heard for squirrels: "Rats with good public relations."

I've seen many tourists to North America from the Far East go ga-ga for squirrels, which they don't have. The little moochers really know how to milk it, too.
