  1. Frankly for my last worldbuilding event I took several Sci Fi ideas (David Brin, VTM, Nanotech, Star Fromtiers etc) and made it work with a millenia ago a space ship crashed etc... and from there on no one knows the history. very general but then again there are a few thing I need to do with it.
  2. Frankly having lost three 150 point heroes to 6 orcs straight out of the 4th FH common orc rules. I think that you guys are waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy off. the only reason the 4th hero did not die was because he had 10" of movement 4 speed and 60 End. the Gm is a much better tactician and does not pull punches. All four were wearing light armor and had decent weapons, martial arts, and no magic. still just be careful. First combat i would suggest being a hungry dog or two like another poster suggested. THEN decide what they can face combat wise.
  3. Re: Re: Two pieces of cardboard Actually there is an article in Dragon Magazine that was a point based system.......That pretty much did that, ask nicely and ill dig up the issue number. however the concept was definately not fleshed out enough, I played with it some but never got it written up. Steve i would lke to see a few ideas on "removing fingerprints" to make something feel new. not just slight rewites but ideas to rename/refeel the same old things. Mercedes lackey has Psionics in her books but they dont feel like psions, renamed and with the serial numbers filed off they work great, besides there are some great examples for Power Skills usages n the blasted things that really go forward with the whole mysticism concepts with out costing points. Frankly changing spells on the fly as one shots with Power Skill Rolls should be a good concept to explore. Definately adding depth to the mages spells without costing more points is a good thing.
  4. mebbe Steve could do some reseach on that really big series Wheel of Time. Im sure he would just love that. Something really juicy to sink his teeth into. that looks like a good place to start fantasy hero...
  5. Hmm one of your asides in the what do you want to see in the FH thread caught my eye. specifically your plaints about weapons and playing 1st ed AD&D. frankly yes I do see alot of longsword weilders but I also happen to know that if you do not allow the weapon notes in the book Longswords are the best weapon out there, seconded by bastard sword weilders. if you do use the weapon notes as is you get Ranseur weilders. Alot. read up on page 38 1st ed AD&D PH book. makes your head spin how useful that is in a party situation. O course it helps if people actually READ the weapon tables........ Other things trhat are not spelled out but are very useful is the rulings on Warhammers from the DMG(lesssee I get Dex bonus to hit when thrown plus normal Str+each individual separate strength bonus from each individual magical item worn that enhances strength...... Take 24+1d4 at +12 to hit... Oh, Wait! Weapon Specialization!!!!!) Now then on the 5th ed stuff............. Ill agree after looking over the rules Spears are almost untouchable excluding the AP possibilities of the Picks, spears are UGLY..... Frankly we kept 4th.
  6. oh yeah if you have it you should post the "human" too, just for a baseline of notes. sure you _could_ ignore them but it does give a base. Ill have to see if i have the Staydoze notes i built around here....
  7. I think the greatest danger mentioned of the sheilds is that when an energy weapon hit's the sheild it 1 automatically destroys the wearer 2 automatically destroys the shooter, irregardless of range the implication being given that the energy released is so huge that near atomic is right, basically the explosion needs to be large enough that it guarantees death for cities. near atomic is good enough. BTW what book is the LP on delay and sheild generator trick mentioned? we were doing similar things in a Battletech campaign.... evil feinds that we were....
  8. no offense but I still feel I need nothing more than the FREd and im good to go!
  9. Hey Susano would you be interested in home brewed characters unrelated to anythning else?
