  1. Re: Changing block CTaylor, how can I explain to you the ways in which this idea fails? Lets start from the beginning: 1)You seem stuck on the idea that one can only Block by putting something in the way. That's not true. Parrying (forcing the attack aside) and Circumvention (getting inside the attack) are just as much blocking as Obstructing (placing something in the way of the attack). This argument comes up every so often, with yours being one of the few to try to light a candle instead of just cursing the darkness. But really, you shouldn't get too hung up on the SFX. A Strike can have different SFX, why can't Block? 2) Most characters with 'shielding' foci often buy them as extra DCV (the SFX being that the attack strikes the shield, not the character, Armor or Force Field (often with Limitations), or even Force Wall. Your idea does nothing for them, except maybe force a limitation on them that they can't get points for. 3) You yourself point out that your idea makes blocking without an obstruction (shield, bracelets, car...) useless. While you've been puttering with an idea to give them some benefit (effectively adding STR/5 to their PD) it a) wouldn't work against a character with a 'Taser Punch' (HA vs. ED). I can parry or circumvent a Taser Punch with the RAW Block, but sticking my hand out shouldn't apply here wouldn't work against an HKA (barehanded, circumvention (and maybe parrying) would work in the RAW, but not here), and c) should be just as usable by those using an obstruction (they have STR too) as it is by those using their bare hands, thus making the obstruction users even better off. In all, it's an interesting idea, but the RAW gives me more options to work with.

  4. Re: Order of the Stick What I'm wondering about is why doesn't V just Teleport to her Masters tower and let him (or her) know about the fraggin' dragon. Are we to believe that V never prepared any teleport spells in case s/he ever found Haley, Belkar, or Roy? I guess it was a good thing that that cleric in Greysky City removed Belkars Mark of Justice rather than try to contact outside help. Even if V was with Durkon, s/he'd have been worse than useless.
  5. Re: END cost of AoE succor I would say yes, because I see area effect working as an 'eruption' from the point of origin, expanding until it reaches its limits. Adding Selective to it changes the 'expanding eruption' to 'beams' being cast - and 'beams' can miss their target or worse, hit the wrong target either by accident (the person you were trying to help moves when you wanted him to stand still) or intention (the Enemy, seeing you prepare your 'Buff' holds his action and when you fire, uses the Interposing rules on pg. 160 of The Ultimate Martial Artist or Dives For Cover into the Buff). My way of having you go around this would be to add Indirect at the +1/4 level. That way, it would act like an 'aerosol' or 'radience' - covering everything but affecting only those the caster wants to affect.
  6. Re: Order of the Stick Vaarsuvius claims to have an 18 INT (and probably a 8 WIS), so it's probably the first one.
  7. Re: What book was the character "Brick" from? It was the CHAPMIONS 3rd edition rulebook (the one before Chamions expanded into the HERO System). I don't know if he was in the first or 2nd editions of the book, but he was there in 3rd.
  8. Re: Telepathically releasing untapped Potential I can think of two ways that could work. the first is to use Succor to enhance all Skill and Characteristic Rolls, and the second is to use Overall Levels with the Advantage Usable as Attack. Both powers have their pros and cons. The Succor enhances all Combat, Characteristic, and Skill rolls at once, and is cheap, which makes it useful in a Heroic level game, but it doesn't improve movement rolls (if the beneficiary can fly, he won't have any improved turning rates under the Succor unless he's got skill levels with Flight) or improve damage. The Overall Levels are more expensive, and can only improve one roll at a time, but it can be used for any roll, including movement and damage. Enough talking. Let's see the powers: 16 Unleash Your Potential: 1D6 Succor All CV, Characteristic, and Skill Rolls at once (+2), 0 END (+1/2), Persistent (+1/2), works against Mental Defense, not Power Defense (+0), Standard Effect (+0); Side Effect: All Psychological Limitations are shifted 1 step (as chosen by the GM) in the least inhibitive way (-1/4); 20 AP; 16 RP 29 Unleash Your Potential: 2 Overall Levels, Usable As Attack (Defended by Mental Defense, +1), Persistent; Non-Cumulative (-1/2) [NOTE: this limitation means that once enhanced, the beneficiary cannot receive another enhancement until the first one is turned off], Side Effect: All Psychological Limitations are shifted 1 step (as chosen by the GM) in the least inhibitive way (-1/4); 50 AP; 29 RP Both powers are No Range by default and are suitable for a Heroic scale game. Feel free to adjust as needed.
  9. Re: Which Champion are you Directly beneath the picture is a block of BB Code. Copy & Paste that onto your post, and voila: You are pure evil, and hate personified. You don't care anything about your fellow man, and are guided only by your desire to rule over your inferiors, i.e. everybody but you. 'Mercy,' you ask, prior to grinding an enemy beneath your mighty heel, 'What is mercy?' Take the quiz!
  10. Re: Disease Healing Healing doesn't remove the disease, just the symptoms. If you Healed someone who was on fire without putting him out first, he'd still be on fire, and would still take damage from the fire. The cheapest method would be to buy 20pts Life Support (immune to all Diseases, & Poisons) with the Advantages Usable As Attack (the beneficiary doesn't get the option to turn it off, after all) and Persistent (so you don't have to be watching the beneficiary all the time) with the limitation "Immunity only works against the current ailment, -1". This way, they can get reinfected with the same ailment or poison. 30 Paladin's Touch: Life Support (Immune to all Terrestrial Diseases and Poisons) Usable As Attack, Persistent; 1 Charge, Immunity only works against the current ailment, -1; 50 AP; 17 RP Another method would be a Transform: Target into Target with the appropriate immunity. The problem with it is that since Transform counts against the beneficiary's BODY, not the BODY of the disease/ poison, you'll have to achieve a BODY score eual to twice the Beneficiary's (BODY +1). That's not too bad if you can take your time, but if you have a limited number of uses then you need to make sure you get it right the first time, which can get quite expensive: 30 Paladin's Touch: 8D6 Transform (Target into Target with appropriate LS:Immunity (improved Target Group, +¼) - BODY required = (Target's BODY+1) × 2); 1 Charge, All or Nothing, No Range, Immunity only works against the current ailment (Target can be reinfected or re-poisoned), -1; 150 AP; 30RP The final (and most expensive) method is Dispel. It's expensive mainly because some diseases and poisons (which I think you also wanted to neutralize) have high Active Point Costs - And Active Points are what you need to dispel (according to my 4th ed Bestiary, Cobra Venom is worth 267 APs and the Bubonic Plague is worth a whopping 380 APs ). 195 Paladin's Touch: 130D6 Standard Effect Dispel any single Disease or Poison (+¼); 1 Charge, No Range; 487 APs; 195 RP

  13. Re: Virtigo 60 8D6 Sight Group Flash, Defended by Flash Defense (Hearing;+0), Explosion (+½) The effects of a Flash attack covers the effects of Vertigo just fine. The special effect would be that while vision is unimpaired, coordination & balance are shot to heck, so while you can see the chair that you're about to stumble into, you still can't avoid it. Likewise, you can see incoming attacks, but it's a pain to dodge them. And while you can see you're opponent, you'll have trouble keeping your balance long enough to hit them.
  14. Re: Kill the Dude with the Thing {Looks Left} {Looks Right} Kills the Thing, grabs the Dude(ette), and makes off while everybody else is looking at the dead Thing and wondering what to do now... ...Whils G.A. and Susano raze the site from orbit, erasing any evidence that the Thing was there in the first place. (Not that I care. I've got the inportant thing)
  15. Re: Lost in Translation No, he used to be the scientific Spectre: Invisibility, Desolidification, Telepathy, Shapeshilfting (growth included), Matter Manipulation (he summoned gold from seawater in his origin story and in a later story made ice cream with his mind), Telekinesis, Martian Breath, Twirling... the list goes on and on. And these are from his earliest stories. Any power the story needed, he'd have. If anything, J'Onn was depowered when he became Superman+
  16. Re: What else is a classic trope ? Nah, Freakboy6117's talking about a character based off of the Yu-Gi-Oh game & anime. A character like say, Tarot before she died & came back. And in that vein, what about supers with tatoo-based powers, like the Tatooed Man, who inspired Kevin Siembeda's RIFTS character class?
  17. Re: Susano vs Marvel characters Nah, I was there for that fight. Susano didn't do that... He did this!
  18. Re: Black Cat & Starfire in Fabrica De Herois Hard, yes. But not impossible. The main problem for me is when you're doing a character who has a 'cleavage window' - it's nigh impossible to make it appear that the character has a nice rack without it looking like she oiled up her chest before posing . I did what I could with Black Cat (who posed another problem - no fur - at least, not where I want it ) but she clearly ran out of suntan oil halfway up her chest. Comics Starfire is much easier, since her costume helps hide the fact that she too, 'oils up' before posing (of course, that they've got her hairstyle in the templates helps immensely). Cartoon Starfire was of course, the easiest, since her costume is supposed to hide the fact that she's got a couple of bumps on her chest. Now if you want impossible, try a typical Magical Girl costume (and if you're feeling brave, try some of the 'Meister Robes' from Mai Otome). All of those Frills of Justice!
  19. Re: Quick Question Um, JmOZ, I hate to say it, but I messed up. A hex is actually 3.442m² not 1.046m². So there are 1,176 hexes to an acre, not 3,868. I realized my mistake on the way to work, but wasn't able to correct myself 'till I got back home (I shouldn't do Math and dress myself at the same time). Hope this isn't too late for your game.
  20. Re: Quick Question 1 acre = 4046.86m² 1 hex = 1.046m² so... 4046.86m² /1.046m² = 3868hexes.
  21. Re: Faster Adjustment recovery with rest My suggestion would be to limit the extra difficulty. For example: Lethargy Ray{/b]: 3D6 Drain CON, recovers 5pts/5 min 45AP plus 3 extra levels recover difficulty for 3D6 Drain CON (recovers 5pts/5 hrs) only if target is active (-1/2); Total AP: 67, Total RP: 60
  22. Re: Stop Complaining About Zatanna ! There was a 58 post thread in rec.arts.comics.dc.universe. last month asking "If Batman and Superman fought each other, who do you think would win and why?". Many of the replies revolved around Supes wiping out Batman from long distance, either with Heat Vision, or just tossing rocks at him from orbit.
