I found a few xenomorph and yautja (under various names) Hero write-ups, for Fourth and Fifth Edition Hero System. Links below.

Nothing yet for Ripley, Dutch, or the marines. I may poke around again when I have more time.

Thank you.  How would you build the Alien Queen?

Same with an Alien Egg for the Facehugger?

I thought that Danny Glover one pretty well killed any chance of more of those.

I like the third Predator movie, but I skipped the fourth one due to its box office flop, poor critical reviews, and devastating fan review.

Thank you Lord Liaden for your finds!

  3. Hello everyone,

Did anyone make xenomorphs, yautja and colonial marines for HERO System?

I'm going to run a Star Wars Vs AVP game, run like the way I imagined the movie to be instead of the horrifically lame movies from 2004 and 2007 along with a Star Wars that resembles the Original Star Wars + Rogue One + The Mandalorian.

I would also like to see Ellen Riley and Dutch team up, so if anyone ever stated them out- that would be a big help!

    Let me know,

I agree as to the excellence of Bill's artwork.  (The stuff he's written in Haymaker! is also excellent - I've used a good chunk of it in past Champions games.)  Unfortunately, I haven't been in touch with him since something like 2013.  Have you tried the mailing address or the email address in the front of the Haymaker! issue?

I managed to get in touch with him.  He's pretty sick with cancer, but he's hanging in there.  He's looking to see what he can find as apparently his art on is an old hard drive.

  5. Hello everyone,

I was going through Haymaker and Digital HERO and I saw Bill Jackson's awesome art!  Does anyone know how to get in touch with him or if he's posted his artwork anywhere?

I attached a sample of his art, Monolith a native-American anti-heroine (sympathetic supervillain or heroine working for/with the wrong people).

  6. Forgot my 5th game:

Champions: Presidential Smackdown 2020 (Stone vs Invictus)! The controversial business mogul Franklin Stone was elected President in 2016 in an upset, and is now running for re-election. He's up against the charismatic ex-superhero David Sutherland aka Invictus. Is this a classic case of good vs evil or is all hell about to break loose?

The players are a member of The Punishers, a super-team in the great city of Freedom City (what name New York CIty adopted to celebrate the Allied victory in WW2, although many residents still call it by its old name out of nostalgia). Their rivals, the Freedom Legion (the city's premier super-team), are away on a mission out of the country for PRIMUS (this world's equivalent of SHIELD). Conveniently enough, the two Presidential candidates are going to have their final debate in the Freeport section of Freedom City (where the Punishers are based out of). The game starts out with The Punishers making their decision on how they want to approach this latest turn of events (they're a private team, unlike the city-sponsored Freedom Legion). The players are Very High-Powered at 650 points and 100 points of complications (roughly Justice League)..

The game does contain allegories and jokes about contemporary American and global politics that skewer all sides and ideologies, so please be aware of this.

I'm sorry that I'll miss your games this year. Between having cancer, and fear that the coronavirus will potentially be active by June, I'm just not willing to risk my health in a convention of thousands and thousands of people! Sounds odd, but I have to plan for these sorts of problems now. I encourage everyone to try your games though! And I'll see you next year.

Oh man, that's awful! I'm sorry to hear about that buddy!  It was so awesome to game with you last year!  You were a great Italian monk and Japanese Jujitsu-practicing Buddhist Monk! Yeah, knocking on wood about Origins.

  8. Hello,

I just submitted 5 game options at Origins this year.  I am not a part of a group, but I will be running 5 HERO games at Origins this year (thought about mixing with Savage Worlds, but figured that it would mess up my DM brain too much).  I'll post the schedule as we get closer.

Champions: Evilution Unchained! An adaptation of Pete Ruttman's 3-Act adventure for a convention setting. It's a modified "historical" game set 20 years ago. It is set in the late Dave Webb's campaign city of Metro City, which replaces the San Francisco Bay Area in this modified Champions Universe. The players are a team of new superheroes who are taking upon the mantle of the Protectors, the city's legendary super-team. It's been 5 years since a devastating earthquake (some say it was the work of supervillains, others terrorists, others aliens, others mother nature, and others demons) that wrecked the city, along with a devastating nearly-simultaneous attack by Dr. Destroyer. The Protectors also suffered badly, and its surviving members recruited the PCs to take the place of the fallen and those in mourning.

It is now the year 2000: the new millennium. The players have been tasked with solving a series of high-profile kidnappings plaguing Metro City. The heroes must discover a horrific plot that threatens the entire city or risk the rise of a fresh batch of super-villains.

HERO 6th Edition: Star Wars Vs Alien Vs PredatorSet between the events of the fall of the Old Republic and Episode IV: A New Hope, with the addition of two of the deadliest monsters in the Sci-Fi/Horror pantheon. The players play a group of Rebels that have crashed-landed on a planet on the edge of the galaxy. They need to repair their ship or find a new one in a barren place without a spaceport. Worse, Xenomorphs have infested the place and the Yautja have decided to make it their hunting ground. Can the players escape or are they doomed?

Kazei 5: More Human Than HumanSet in Michael Surbrook's anime cyberpunk setting, the players are a group of freelancers who work as deniable assets for the best-paying client. Their job starts simple: extract a scientist from a corporate facility. Unfortunately- there's a twist to this job- they have to rescue his daughter too. And then there's the little problem of a rogue Artificial Intelligence. No big deal for a group of experienced mercenaries, right?

Ninja/Martial HERO: World King of the Ring TournamentThe world's best martial artists have been invited to a secret, yet legendary tournament in Hawaii (this time around). The winner gets fame, fortune, and power; and the losers are lucky to survive.  (note: I used the Ninja HERO notation for the game as Ninja is more instantly recognizable in this era than Martial for Martial Arts).

I actually ran a savage worlds supers game (Ash vs Orcus; or Army of Darkness: Throne of Bloodstone) at 2 conventions last year and then converted it into HERO for my local group that featured the following:

    1) Ash Williams (leader)

    2) Peter Venkman (comic relief)

    3) Hellboy (big guy)

    4) John Constantine (lancer)

    5) Hermione (brains)

    6) Buffy (chick)

Also hit tip to Dave Mattingly for giving me the inspiration to run it.

Orcus was the "big boss" with Lo Pan, Beetlejuice, and Freddy Krueger as the lesser bosses.  Lo Pan was killed by Buffy, Beetlejuice and Krueger were killed by Venkman, and Orcus was killed by Hermione and Constantine combining efforts.

15 Psychological Complication: Overconfident (Very Common, Moderate)

10 Rivalry: Daniel Erikson (Romantic, Very Superior position, Unaware of Rivalry, Outdo)

15 Social Complication: Public Identity (Frequently, Major)

5 Social Complication: Secret (affair with Cheryl (Infrequently, Minor)

Just curious- is she publicly known as bisexual or gay? Or is the secret the fact that Cheryl is two-timing with her and Erik?

I'll take a look at a build.  She seems like she's a little weak compared to the Champions or some of "standard power" villains although I think she's clearly effective against minions.

I'll see what I can do.  Warning, I know him most from Swamp Thing 2 with Heather Locklear.

Yeah the 1980s movies are guilty pleasures.  They probably would have been better with bigger budgets, as both movies are constrained by budgetary limitations- and a bad script for the second one (a point which the director apparently agrees with).

I haven't seen the 2019 series, and the 1990s series has some good episodes but a lot of mediocre ones.

My comment about Lovelace is that I felt his disfigured psychopath was a slap in the face to the character played brilliantly by Michael Dunn (who famously learned to do his own stunts because everyone else did and earned Robert Conrad's and the stunt men's respect).

They probably should have just changed the character's name completely instead of trying to reference the original character by butchering him into a legless neo-confederate engineer.

I wish I could go back in time, and prevent myself from watching it.

At the time I found Kenneth Branaugh's over-the-top performance to be entertaining and the leads to be amusing, but I was a 13-year old boy .  I'll admit the movie has not held up well at all, doesn't really work, and can see why Will Smith apologized for it.

  15. The team I played in that beat Takofanes were all in the 700 point range and we were all grossly overpowered- we had a SPD 12 speedster and I was the brick with 24 DC.  Some of the PCs got KOed, but we still defeated him.

I just ran a convention game where the PCs fought Mechanon.  They beat Mechanon by using coordinated attacks, and because I let the players "buy" critical hits with heroic action points.

Okay, granted first of all that I'm a munchkin bastard. But... CVs of 15, DCs of 18, defenses 35-40.. I build that on regulation 350 pts with room left over for flavor, fluff and noncombat skills. What did you do with the other 650? What've I missed?

Anyway, the trick to challenging a team is in the team itself. For a combat challenge: look over their character sheets and see what they don't have. No precognition? Put them up against a master-planner who has a new trap and a new trick for every occasion. No life support? Enemies from space or from underwater who can strike with impunity and make the PCs find a way to overcome their liability. No STUN-only attacks? Put them up against a villain who is dangerous but fragile, who will die if they hit him even with a pulled punch. This should not come up every adventure- if you do that, the players are within their rights to feel like you're picking on them by tailoring enemies to their weaknesses. But, for a master villain, someone who has an entire campaign arc devoted to them? It's a great start.

For a more mental / roleplay challenge, look over the character sheets and see what they do have, in Disadvantages or Complications (whichever edition). A villain learns the PCs secret identity, but instead of threatening it directly he uses it to kidnap the DNPCs and start brainwashing them. If they have multiple Hunteds, form a Revenge Society and throw several of those Hunteds at them simultaneously. If all the characters have a shared origin, they probably have some shared Disadlications, so this may be pretty easy. And any villain with enough Contacts or Favors from the government or law enforcement is going to be a tough puzzle to beat. Most Perks- money, followers, networks of contacts and associates- are signs of a successful supervillain, and not for no reason.

Well they have NCM in everything as a start- so that's over 200 points, and then do the CVs, but here are some of the characters.

If I'm remembering correctly even in its weakened initial form it can easily summon/create lots of minions, has pretty high defenses against practically everyything, and has the use of three different 150-point multipowers, so it's not exactly chopped liver right out of the gate.

I'm going with a sci-fi rather than mystical route, but it could be changed to a malevolent alien entity rather than a mystical one.

I see this thread concentrating on how to match strength against strength.
When GMing I prefer to challenge my players with opposites,  is the team “brick heavy” show them the value of not getting hit with high Dex villains.  Are your players the type to run in without thinking...show them what one planner on the other side can accomplish.  And so on.

There’s probably some very deep Sun-Tzu quote I could throw out, but I’ll go with that great strategist Vince Lombardi.  “Hit ‘em where they ain’t.

Yeah, some of the players love to think out things while others are more impulsive.

Other villains to draw inspiration from are Onslaught, which would be merging Professor X's mental powers and making them more offensive-oriented with Magneto's powers over magnetism; Cthulhu or some other type of Lovecraftian-inspired deity; Unicron from Transformers: The Movie which has a standard write-up in the Hero Bestiary (Fifth and Sixth Edition) as the archetypal "Death Star-like" battle station that can modified to transform into a gargantuan robot; and assorted Kaiju ("strange beast" in Japanese) such as King Ghidorah, Mothra, Mechagodzilla, etc. that are running amok on the planet. The Kaiju have a write-up in the Hero Bestiary (Fifth and Sixth Edition) that can be modified with a power upgrade to challenge epic level superheroes.

    Interesting.

Do any of you guys have some interesting villains that you'd like to see powered up?

For inspiration, you could draw from Superman as depicted in DC Injustice where he has no problem using lethal force to impose his will. Similarly, you could adapt from the Plutonian in the miniseries Irredeemable where the world's greatest hero goes insane and rogue as a result. The Plutonian is arguably more powerful than Superman since he was comparable power levels based on his psionic powers but without the weakness to Kryptonite and magic.

That is a story arc that I've thought of.
