  1. Re: GMs: Funniest Character Sheet Mistakes You've Seen. Susceptability to being immersed in waiter? Does that count?
  2. Re: The Ultimate WWYCD: Ninja or Pirate! Gotta be pirates, every single time. Which brings up the interesting eventuality that all my wife's toons are becoming ninjas, forcing me to bring her characters to justice. "Quiet or Papa spank" takes on new meaning when my wife is involved.
  3. Re: Name Help I'm not going to write him up- Any gaming consruction would ruin the idea of him, since Champs characters are written up using real numbers and their abilities are predictable in a Newtonian sense. Or maybe I'm just not clever enough to do him right. You're all welcome to run with it, since you've certainly helped in his devising!
  4. Re: (best ever...) reasons for becoming a superhero IMO there are five basic reasons to become a superhero; five metaphysical origins. They were said best in Mayfair's DC Heroes 3rd Upholding the Good (I'd help people whether I had powers or not); Responsibility of Power (Power invested in me requires me to act); Seeking Justice (I or someone I know was wronged and I intend to make that right); Thrill of Adventure (Fighting crime is a good time); Unwanted Power (I was thrust into a position to be a hero, but I'd much rather be somewhere else). this isn't the same thing as a physical origin (strange chemicals, super armor, magic, whatever). That sort of talks about how power was granted. This is more about motivation for heroism.
  5. Re: Name Help I seem to recall several villains in Marvel's silver age who used a device that was like a focus- but when it was taken away or broken, they could still use their powers. I wonder if I should give him a +3d6 HA, OAF Big Wrench (-1)?
  6. Re: Name Help hehe, how about The Bohr
  7. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Two of the most popular musicals of all time prominently feature Nazis.
  8. Re: Name Help Ditto Lad! I love all your choices, they all tickle me. Thank you! I might go for h-Bar, if I can figure out a way to put a hyperlink on a piece of normal paper.
  9. Re: Around the World With A New Character Each Week Bump! I can't wait for more, man.
  10. I'm thinking of a character with the ability to see, and manipulate matter and energy on a macro scale in ways that quantum mechanics dictate matter and energy are manipulated on a quantum scale. So far this power set includes Duplication SFX with Teleportation, Force Wall, Stretching and other tricks based on having more than one body; Transforms of the category 'Item and thin air into Item and exact copy of itself, dependent upon the character's ability to otherwise construct the item'; A Naked Advantage to buy off the "beam" limitation on any RKA or EB up to X Active Points, Useable as an Attack, Ranged, IPE; Missile Deflection (side effect- colateral damage, -0), not sure whether to make it Ranged or not; A Multipower with two UBO powers in it: Summon Exact Duplicate of Self, Antagonistic, No Consious Control (no choice which power activates, -1) and Duplication, No Consious Control (no choice which power activates,-1). I'm thinking that in addition he ought to have access to Shrinker tricks/Dimensional Travel to the Microverse, but we'll see how large the first ideas get. At issue, though, is that "Quantum" is already a well-known character in at least two universes. What do you think I should name him?
  11. Re: [Worst Ever...] Reasons to be a superhero I killed Captain Cold and was surprised at how easy it was. My braces sometimes receive radio signals. That's a power, right? I'm pretty good at poking you in ther eye. I want to get my face on a gum card. Meeting chicks. I fell into a vat of irradiated goo, and nothing happened. I have to try harder. This parachute means I'll never be afraid of heights again. If I do it right, I can climb a wall using only these two plungers.
  12. Re: Around the World With A New Character Each Week I must spread some around before giving it to you again.
  13. Re: Character concept: Mecha I'm not sure what input you're looking for? If it's my character or a PC in a campaign I run (which, of course, it isn't so YMMV), I'd try to get a technological origin for the armor. The way you have it sounds a lot like Darkhawk (who I just read about here), and that never really set right with me. However, as far as the power set goes, it sounds very cool, and everybody likes giant transforming robot girls.
  14. Re: You cannot possibly be!! 4 I did some looking into Darkhawk, and he's been revamped a few times. Unfortunately, there isn't much to do as far as a write-up goes. His power set seems fairly stable at the moment, and his dopey costume kind of has to stay based on his currently revealed backstory. Here's your Link.
  15. Re: THE Uber Team Zornwil, having Flaming Carrot makes any team one zillion times better. It was a crying shame they left him out of the Mystery Men movie, that's for sure. OK, this is my list of guys I really, really like to read about: Reid Fleming, World's Toughest Milkman (Eclipse) Steve Ditko's Iron Man Milestone Comics' Static Henry Pym, Ant-Man identity Mirror Master (sorry, had to use a mercenary/villain)
  16. Re: You cannot possibly be!! 4 Bumped. I'll think about this and post one sooner or later. Good idea, Darkawk was a dog in his day, and he's an absolute pig now.
  17. Re: Affects Real World (+2) Serious cheese, exactly as I thought it might be. Thank you all for the info.
  18. If a Desolid character bought this for his strength, could he then use martial arts to add DCs without buying these with the same Advantage? Say, Str 20, Offensive Strike = 8D6. Affects Real World (+2) on Str up to 20 = 40 pts. Would he also need Affects Real World (+2) on up to 4DCs of HA to hit with the whole 8D6 while Desolid?
  19. Re: The team that everyone forgot. Prowler debuted in The Amazing Spider-Man #78 (November, 1969). He was co-created by writer Stan Lee with artists John Buscema and Jim Mooney. Wiki Love Although he neevr looked as good as when Todd drew him, and Spawn's costume was a total rip from Hobie's.
  20. Re: Super Teams Compete! Dude, everyone knows that the only reason Superheroes form teams is, when they're walking down the street and someone starts snickering at them, they can imagine that they're snickering at someone else in the group. At least I thought everyone knew that.
  21. Re: I need your brain Sure lets him break out of the black-and-orange costume. I keep imagining base white with Jets green accenting.
  22. Re: Help with a character name I doodled up a similar powerset and had the name in reserve. Since I'll never play my version, you can own it. And thanks for the positive reinforcement, everyone.
  23. Re: 007 7.0 This is the sort of advice that should be applied to most forms of escapism. I'd rep you if I could.
  24. Re: Help with a character name Blind teleporter? Come on! Blindside, obviously.
  25. Re: I need your brain Hallow is an original name huh? Well, the headline should read, "Blind Squirrel Finds Nut" or something else, perhaps more relevant to chickens. I have a few sketches made up of him, but no scanner, so you're out of luck there. His colors are black with red and orange highlights. The only thing I need to work on is an insignia. I was toying with jack-o-lanterns, bird's claws and stylized ravens. Anyone have an idea, let me know and I'll credit you. Anyway, Hallow is my martial artist detective, who has a Halloween-themed utility belt arsenal, basically lifted from Batman and the Green Goblin. He also uses a collapsable baton. This isn't a weapon like a billy club, but rather a tool, with a swingline/hook and winch, boom microphone, compartment for smoke pellets, mini cassette recorder, and lock picks. I built this with two multipowers- one for his arsenal and a few other useful things, OIF Utility Belt (60 point reserve, most slots with OAF, Charges and Lockout); and one for the few things I have listed above, OAF Baton (20 point reserve). His fighting style is a hybrid of Son Kung Fu (an imaginary style I made up) and South American Judo, concentrating on defense and evasion, with submission-wrestling holds and nerve strikes instead of straightforward striking power. In battle, a lot of his tactics have to do with avoiding fights rather than having them, and he uses stealth and misdirection as well as Presence attacks to head off trouble when he can. He's also very concious of collateral damage. His main goal in any conflict with innocent bystanders involved is to get them out of danger- his second priority is to thwart the bad guys- and his third, to save property. He wears a dark cape and collar, but it has no special abilities. His costume is bulletproof (PD Armor 8) and insulated (ED Armor 2 plus 50% rED Damage Resistance, Electricity Only), which was initially developed by a college buddy who works as Hollywood stunt coordinator. Because of this, his costume looks more like Evel Keneival than Batman, aside from the three-quarter cowl he wears. He at one time worked as a government super-agent, but has parted company with them because it takes him out of town too much. Subsequent to this amicable split, he adopted his Hallow identity. He has no proof that his former handlers know who he is, but he's pretty sure they do. Due in large part to the information he had access to in that phase of his career, he has had success rooting out VIPER activity in his home, Pope City. Of course, this has earned him a dangerous Hunted, and VIPER doesn't go away that easily. In his private life, he is a prominent litigator specializing in children's welfare, but not strictly a child advocate. He has an adopted daughter who knows about his two careers, but no other relatives. They live in a modest home in a nearby town, and his base of operations is the basement of his law office. He uses no special vehicles or robots, and has no partner (but is training his daughter to take care of herself).
