  1. A player in a game I play wanted to mind blast himself. Please don't ask why, it is a long story. The GM let him "attack" himself by rolling a mental attack vs. himself (11 or less to hit). He hit and rolled the STUN damage and took it. Is this okay for a character to do?
  2. underwater would work well In salt water the device is quite practical. On dry land not as effective. Some fish and sharks use this sense. You could think of it as a tracking sense.
  3. In the real world... This device is actually being researched for military use. If it could be built it would allow soliders to detect hidden humans. The problem is the human heart generates a small amount of sound, so the device is designed to detect the electrical signal created by the heart. The problem is the human heart generates a very small electro-magnetic signal and the device may not ever be practical. Art imitates life.
  4. wonderful, but how to use him? Thanks for write up. Excellent. I run a Chicago modern Champions game and I don't know how to use him. Wait, what about time travel to 1938, Nazis, and a plot to control the world. [insert evil GM laughter here].
  5. please do not do this Many years ago a group of my friends did a "us" game. It was very distrubing to all involved. Roleplaying is a strong tool in psychology and it can be misused (usually by accident). I was the GM in that game and I had to end it.
  6. why not play both Hero system is NOT a either/or choice. Play both. Use adventures from one system converted for use in the other. Please post any ideas of Tri-Stat stuff that might be cool for Champions use.
  7. A further 2 cents, Maybe only allow them to spend 150 pts out of the 200 pts and then after playing for awhile they get to spend the other 50pts after they know what they want/what fits with the character.
  8. my 2 cents I would leave BODY and killing attacks in. They are still important even in a 4 color game (I run a 4 color game). My suggestion is you run a teenage mutant school game. Limit characters to maybe 150pts, with low limits on power levels and even which powers maybe taken. This would be my solution to your problem. For an intro game run a "danger room" event so the players and you can get a feel of the mechanics. Please be very descriptive of the events and people the characters will interact with. A good "story" really helps people get "into character". Just my 2 cents.
  9. Americans on the team What about the idea of US goverment teams and Canadian goverment teams doing an exchange program? Say one super spends a year in each others team. Great excuse for US in a Canadian team and vice versa.
  10. Agents with one big bad guy My favorite is a group of agents (# of players plus two) with one big bad guy (say about 1.5 times the points of the players). Play the agents with teamwork and coordinate attacks on players. This give the big bad guy a chance to do whatever his mission is. Players will have a tough (but not impossible) time with this and have fun. Most players love to beat up agents, but to "win" they must stop the big bad guy.
  11. Check out the player finder section of the board. Set your preferences back to all dates. See if a group(s) are near you. I am looking for players in West Suburbs or Chicago.
  12. Disadvantage: Dependence on water - must go back to a FRESH water source
  13. Terminal V for humans is about 90mph or so. Someone may have an exact number, if so please post it. For falling I just use the Hero 5th ed. rules, simple and close enough for me to reality.
  14. I love it, and I steal it for my game, thanks.
  15. RCMP like US FBI RCMP has duties much like the US FBI. Counter Terrorism, federal crimies, crimes that cross provinces (in US states), and providing assistance to local law enforcement. For the record I am not from Canada, but I love the country and have visited it several times. FYI: Chicago and many other major cities still have mounted police patrols. Chicago's horses stomped hippies in the 1968 convention riots. I "met" one the horses, large, gentle, and very sleepy (hot day at the Taste of Chicago). The cop riding said that he could if needed chase poeple or herd them. That is the main reason cities still have them, they are very good at breaking up crowds of people and for intimidation (ie a PRE attack).
  16. RMCP maybe = FBI I would give RCMP same package deal as the US FBI. I would include membership (RCMP), investigative skills, PS (such as accounting) and the like.
  17. Trogdor LIVES!!! My wife plays Trogdor the Burninator in my Champions game. Trogdor is mutated human who now is a dragon with a single big beefy arm. Trogdor lives in the CTA tunnels under Chicago, and likes pizza. Trogdor has a breath weapon and has a scaly hide (armor with damage reduction). FYI: You can also buy Trogdor the Burninator t-shirts, the site's best seller.
  18. open event The Champions event on Thursday 8AM will have a player slot open. I am judging it and I have a ticket for the same event, so I have a open slot. Anyone with generic tickets is welcome to trade me for my ticket. The slot is RPG00229 Champions 101: Holding Class Qualifiers
  19. Mr. Squeak suggestions Thanks for posting Mr. Squeak. I like him as a character. Would it be okay for me to use him as a NPC in my game? >> I don't know if the GM would recommend Armor over >>Force Field or if he might not even recommend a higher >>amount of PD/ED in it (he suggested it in case an explosion >>or Area Effect attack occurred, as he wasn't sure a >>creature this size can properly take a Dive for Cover AFIK any creature can dive for cover, the question is can it physically get clear being so small? A great question to post in the HERO question section. I would rule yes. Rats can jump several feet at a time. I would personally take some Armor, it is nice to have. I would lower its COM, if you want him to be thought of by others as a "dirty rat". You might want to raise body or stun, both are very good to have at high values. My wife once played a giant rat character Ratigan, with a disadvantage of terrible smell! Lightsleep... Not all rats sleep lightly, however one of my pet rats was a heavy sleeper. Most wild rats can awaken with the smallest sound. Contortionist is a skill I might take. Rats are very good at wiggling out of your hands (in the wild it makes it harder for birds of prey to hold on to them). What "every creature" skill(s) is your GM going to allow you to have? Controntionist should be one of them IMHO. As a GM, the Psychological Limitation: Doesn't Lie (Common; Strong) would be very fun! Watch for your GM to use that "against" you. FYI pets rats are good "con artists". They learn quickly to hide food and make it look like they are hungry, they learn to "beg" from people (especially small children), and they steal food from each other. Another possible psychological limitation is agroaphobia (not sure if spelled right). This is fear of open spaces. Rats will if they can stay under cover or near walls. They will avoid open spaces (this is to avoid birds of prey and other preditors). >>Actually, can that modifier be just applied to the >>Multipower Reserve, since it's on every slot, or is that >>illegal? Post this question, I am not 100% sure of the answer.
  20. Ratigan >>Dumb as a rock? But Ratigan was the rodent Napoleon of >>Crime! Maybe it was just an act. This character was played in a light hearted way by my wife. She did fully understand all of the Champions mechanics at the time and she found it comfortable to play a "dumb" character. She had fun, and now she plays in two gaming groups.
  21. want to meet Mr. Squeek Could you post Mr. Squeek?, I would love to see the final writeup. I think a good quote for Mr. Squeek could be "THEY CALL ME MR. SQUEEK!"
  22. Mr. Squeak .... great name!!! Figure 20min to chew up unreinforced concrete. A determined rat is a very destructive creature.
  23. what did you do about the "bad" powers? My question to the GM's is: How did you "fix" the out of balance powers in your game?
  24. Remember to add night vision, rats see VERY well in very dim light. A possible disadvantage would be nocturnal. Rats by nature are nocturnal.
  25. rats are my friends I have not found a good rat avatar yet.... I have pet rats and they are great pets. They are very smart and adaptable creatures. I believe a realistically played rat character is very interesting. The rat shape will allow it squeeze into small spaces (an excellent thing for spying). The small size will make it tough to see and hit. A rat's paws while not as complex as human hands has amazing dexterity (they can grasp food and move levers and bars; I had to use wire to secure a cage once the rats figured out how to use the latch). Rat's front teeth are quite tough and sharp. I had a pet rat actually chew thru a thick piece of cardboard (in the wild rats can chew thru wood and even if hungry enough thin cement) You could always make the rat a metalist. The rat could also have small tools (lockpicks or electronic bugs). The rat might have a posion bite (say a 1pt KA linked to a slower acting posion, nasty).
