  1. Bummer. I figured after 5000 years, they would have gotten it to work.
  2. How about just increased damage with a limitation on it (soaking wet)? 2D6 Killing Ice Blast PLUS 1D6 Killing Ice Blast with limitation.
  3. hmmm... What megaplayboy said reminds me of Robert Asprin's Myth series. In one of the books, the party has to play something like a football game to win something. They were surprised when the game started because the people that made the deal (weak, skinny intellectuals) looked nothing like the players (small hulks). Turns out there was a selective breeding program over the centuries that cause the race to basically evolve into two different species. Sorry about being vague, read them about 20-30 years ago. Anyway..... Back to what megaplayboy made me think of.... Would a program described in the original post over the millennia develop specialized perfect humans? Perfect soldier, perfect scientist, etc. You could basically have starting templates for all of the different 'perfect' types. Or after having perfected each type, would the program then try to dovetail them back together for the ultimate human?
  4. Player choice is what I was trying to go for..... If the player had something like a critical success, give them a choice on how to use it. Not just something automatic like max damage. I think that they were more excited to get the free XP. When I GM again, I will still probably use something like the above.... and try to come up with ideas for non-combat skills that give the players more freedom than 'You succeed very well'. Basically like Lucius said earlier. Wing it but have 2 or 3 examples ready for critical successes on skill rolls. Maybe even something completely different... "With that critical success in tracking you are easily able to follow your prey on the cobblestone street, but you also notice the tracks of what appears to be an imp. The clerics in town said that their wards would not let any demons into the city. How is this possible?!" Sidequest!!!!
  5. I was introducing a couple of new people to Hero at the time and did not want to worry too much about critical hits. Since we were playing heroic level (Fantasy Hero), I did the following for (and against) them. They seemed to really like it at the time. Great to hit rolls: If a to-hit roll is made by 5 or more points, they can effect the hit-location by one in either direction. If a to-hit roll is made by 10 or more points, they may choose the following (but the decision has to be made before the hit-location and damage are rolled): they can effect the hit-location by two in either direction they can effect the hit-location by one in either direction and re-roll one damage dice. they can roll the hit-location and get max damage. On a roll of 3, I think that I have them one free XP to put towards that skill be it combat or non-combat. Stopped doing this after people received 10 or so free XP.
  6. Monthly ask for an update. Going to do the same on the kickstarter.
  7. I am not currently playing HERO. Since another person wanted to try GM'ing for a while and was not comfortable GMing without a module/adventure pre-built, we are playing Pathfinder. If I was running a Fantasy Hero would probably grab the Wonderous Item collections. They include the HD packs. That for me is worth a lot even if I would only use a couple per book.
  8. Kazei 5 (page 100) actually has stat blocks for this in 14.5x114mm, 20x83.5mm, and 20x110mm.
  9. Ideas for a Group: A group that finished a multi-year stint in some country's military (army, King's/Queen's highway guard, etc) . They are like a foreign legion which would allow for different races/builds. The reason for the military gig was to get them the first level of citizen rights in the country. Something like 'Latin Rights' in the Roman Empire. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latin_Rights What Christopher and RDU Neil said above. Espeically RDU Neil's numbers 4 and 5. I did that when bringing new people to fantasy hero. Only one or two people really want to drastically change their character on me. I still let it happen and they kept all of their current experience points. We kept the spells/powers to already published things (Fantasy Hero, HERO System Grimoire, etc) in the beginning to make things easier. As above, if they wanted to tweak things later, it was easier to do it after they had some game sessions to see how things worked. Not sure if it really helped, but I manually created sections in their character sheets that listed weapons (with STR bonuses), sectional armor, spells, etc to make things easier for them. It was some work for me. But once set up, was easily maintained. I also ripped out all point values. I did not want to worry them about all of the points. They seemed to like the character sheets. I attached some examples. Glaive.HTML Ghoral.HTML Jarlyn.HTML Kross.HTML
  10. I will also bump this thread as the last update from the project was the end of April.
  11. I have not played it, but Kazei 5 has a section on Mecha. It is in the Star Hero section of the store. https://www.herogames.com/forums/store/category/11-star-hero/
  12. I will also add my thanks for doing this. It also reminds me that I need to vote with my money and look over some of your (and other) Fantasy Hero stuff in the store.
  13. Payback, I may have also thought of a similar, but different way than Simon's #1. You can also overwrite the text of the Power or Equipment item with HTML. I did this for our Fantasy Hero game years ago. For example, on one of the paladin's spells to heal, i overwrote the default text in HERO Designer of: <i>Hands of the Healer:</i> Healing BODY 4d6; Increased Endurance Cost (x3 END; -1), Concentration (0 DCV; -1/2), Extra Time (Full Phase, -1/2), Requires A Roll (Skill roll; -1/2), 8 Charges (-1/2), Costs Endurance (Only Costs END to Activate; -1/4) With the following: Healing BODY 4d6; Concentration: 0 DCV, 8 times a day<BR>- Range: Touch</BR><BR>- Time: Full Phase</BR><BR>- Faith Roll -4</BR> My solution has an issue. Since the default text was overwritten, the text is not updated if you modify the power. As a result, you would manually have to update your text. However, if things are pretty static, you could make a prefab that can be used for all character files. That is if the overwritten text can be saved in a prefab and remains when added to a character. Also, adding to Simon's #2.... I think that you could also have a combat record with all of your items loaded and create an item list with pictures. I hope I am making sense. I am working on lack of sleep and it has been almost 5 years since I delved into HERO Designer. My group has been playing Pathfinder. Trying to get them back to HERO. Norm.

    Fallout

Sorry about that. I forgot that you mentioned 5th edition in your second post. Lets see if I can strike out. Fallout 4, 5th Edition, now limb only.... I used a Dice Probability Calculator (https://anydice.com/ with the 'Normal' and 'At Most' buttons) to figure out how I would come up with the limitation Limbs Only. I am going with limbs defined as location 6-9 (hands, arms, shoulders) and 14-18 (thighs, legs, feet). 4.63+6.94+9.72+11.57+6.94+4.63+2.78+1.39+.46=49.06% That is closest to a 10- (50%) Activation Roll and therefore a -1.25 limitation. If you do not want shoulders and thighs... Locations 6-8, 15-18... 4.63+6.94+9.72+4.63+2.78+1.39+.46=30.55%. That is a closest to a 8- (25.93%). So a -2 limitation. Is that something like you were looking for?

The Deadly Blow (6E1 p113) and Weaponmaster (6E1 116) talents add 3 DC. You could probably ratio them down to 2 DC. For the Limbs Only... I would go the route of how armor is treated by using the Requires a Roll (Activation roll) limitation. Sorry. Too late in the night for me to try to figure out the dice percentages using hit locations and comparing it to the dice percentages on an activation roll. Someone mad e a percentage chart a long time ago, but I cannot find it in google right now. I hope that I am making sense.

Since you are using Fallout 4 as a source, how are you going to do the power armor? I like the idea of it but was never really sure on how to do it. Not even sure how I would write it up. Armor/protection options Have external armor pieces that absorb a certain amount of damage and then become useless? Straight resistant protection? Can a barrier work somehow? That is really what I would want. Some sort of defense that has a certain amount of body and then will be useless. Damage negation coupled with the pilots own armor? Vehicle or armor? Treat power armor as just a fancy suit of amor? Can it be a vehicle? Certain power armor models can then be fast or slow. The character then has to conform to the speed of the armor. Could you then allow characters to modify power armor as you would trick out a car. I have been thinking about having both types of power armor. Fallout 3/New Vegas style power armor - armor with strength augmentation and resistant protection. The Fallout 4 power armor as a vehicle (personal tank). I just have not figured out the armor/protection option that I want.
  17. I loaded it on my iPad 3 when it first came out for tablets. From what I remember, it was more like an interactive character sheet. It looked really nice, but was not usable on my old tablet. Depending on your phone, it may work well for you. Please tell me what you think after trying it. Link below. https://wiki.roll20.net/Roll20_for_iPad_and_Android Norm.
  18. Hi BlindGuyNW. I did something like this a while ago. I may have even gotten some of the ideas from the The Apocalypse Troll. It has been a long time since I read the book. But maybe you can use some of the ideas. I may have even grabbed this from the boards a long, long, time ago. This was also back when I was playing 5E. I found an old html export from 2013 on my computer: Can't poison me: Life Support (Immunity All terrestrial diseases and biowarfare agents; Immunity All terrestrial poisons and chemical warfare agents); (Side effedt: Only on dangerous poisons; -3/4) Side Effect - Body Slow Down: Drain STR and CON 2d6, Side Effect, Two Powers Simultaneously (+1/2), Delayed Return Rate (5 pts per Day; +1 1/2) Long-lived: Life Support (Extended Breathing 1 END per Turn; Longevity Immortal) Fast Healing: Healing 1 BODY, Can Heal Limbs, Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2), Persistent (+1/2); Extra Time (Regeneration-Only) 1 Day (-2 3/4), Self Only (-1/2) Toughened Body: +6 BODY; Side Falls into death-like sleep, Side Effect occurs automatically whenever Power is used (-1), No Figured Characteristics (-1/2), Only to stave off Death (Not figured in any roles) (-1/4) Side Effect - Death-like Sleep: Invisibility to Detect Life Signs/Paramedics and Mental Groups , Infravision, No Fringe, Side Effect; Linked (???; -1/2) plus Healing 1 BODY, Side Effect; Extra Time (Regeneration-Only) 1 Hour (-2 1/4), Must eat 1 meal/body when awakened, Side Effect occurs automatically whenever Power is used (-1/2) I am not sure if even half of it is legal. I did not try to link it as a focus (Symbiot). Basically, I played the toughened body that it kicked in when the character 'died' when they lost their normal body. I figured that having 12 extra body to prevent true death was enough in the game. If they needed more than there, there were other problems. I think that I also played it that the 1BODY/hr healing stayed on until they were at 1 Body. That was when the Fast Healing would kick in. Good luck. Norm.
  19. I bought HCM the other day. Installing it was easy. No issues getting it to work on my Linux machine. The launcher created is not working, but I am going to have to play with that. I started to play with it right away and ran into several issues. I mean, who needs manuals when you have YouTube? Turns out it was an EBKAC error (Error Between Keyboard And Chair). At first I was getting import errors because of the strict parsing of HTML/XML. To make things easier to understand for my players, I had replaced the display text of spells with some simple HTML. It complained that I did not close the <BR> with a </BR>. Correcting that and adding all of the fantasy hero character's armor/equipment as a secondary stat, things worked great. I ran into another issue that turned out to be embarrassing on my part. It was easily solved. I must say, I am impressed. Thank you for making it. I know that this will help me run some combats. Now I just need to find all of the Hero Designer files I got through various purchases or Kickstarters to load NPCs/enemies. Norm.
  20. I doubt that this is what you are looking for, but you can make it part of your economy. I ran a game where metal was scarce. Additionally, blacksmith/weapon-smith/armor-smith were mainly for the nobles or upper merchants. Metal weapons were 10x to 50x the cost. Most people used quarterstaff or various sized clubs. Daggers were for getting through armor. Armor was mainly leather types. Studded leather if you were well off. Metal armor was at least 100x the cost. Due to the amount of metal needed for armor, most invested in metal weapons. I do not have my notes, so some of the info will be off, but you get the idea. If metal is not scarce in your world, how about making refined metals scarce. You can have low, good, excellent qualities for anything metal. Not sure if that would help your situation though.... For me.... As mentioned above, I would just use the encumbrance rules. That can be pretty harsh. Minuses to DCV, Dex rolls, and movement along with extra endurance per turn. Although, it adds to the book keeping.
  21. May sound silly, but the leaning 'A' in the video is distracting to me. Prefer the 'A' in "After" at 8 seconds in the video. Stretch goals or even add-ons comments/thoughts: Note - Parent with little free time. 1. Adventures - My one big wish for anything HERO is adventures/modules. I see that there is one mini-adventure in the stretch goals. Possible to get more? 2. Integration into Roll20 or some other Virtual Table Top? Or maybe maps, tiles, scenery, etc for VTT? 3. I like the mobi and epub stretch goals. I think that it is neat. I know that I have a large number of RPG docs on my tablet. Questions: 1. At extinction event pledge level ($80): 1a. Do you get the special book and the at cost POD code? 1b. Also does the permission to use the publisher files allow for use in VTTs like Roll20 or campaign sites like Obsidian Portal? 2. Will the Hero Designer files include export formats to match the write-ups in the book? Maybe in HTML/RTF formats? Now i have to wait until the 18th to spend some money.

    Fallout

I have been looking into doing some sort of Fallout/Marrow Project game for my group. I have been getting distracted by life and other things. Not quite what to do about Traits and Perks. Not really feeling the need to recreate everything or keep it all in cannon. I know that you said 5th edition, but there is an old thread you may be interesting in: The Legendsmiths conversion has moved - http://www.legendsmiths.com/adaptations/fallout Some of the other items you can find using the wayback machine (https://archive.org/web/) Good luck.
  23. I do not host any games, so my list is simpler. notebook note cards a variety of jerky downloaded copies of Con maps and schedules on my cell phone. Sometimes cell reception can get congested. It has been a couple of years since I have really worried about it, but I keep the paranoia alive. A lot of my list for travelling is preparing for the worst, but hope for the best. I get silly if I am travelling and it is in the summer (Gen Con). I hate the heat and sweat a lot. So I take: Tablet downloaded/cached movies. I am glad that Amazon and Netflix have this now. lighter than a laptop. Gaming books. Love those PDFs. 2 extra sets of clothes in case I shower a second time in a single day. Maybe even more shirts. I have a gaming t-shirt issue also. depending on how the taste of the water at the Con compares to the hotel, I could be lugging around two to four 1 liter water bottles a decent amount of cash so I can buy something if Square or whatever credit card transaction company has communication issues lots of Sudafed. Allergies up the wazoo. I am sure that there is more, but as I said above.... been about 5 years since I have been to a Con. Needs to go back to Gen Con sometime and also check out some local Cons (Seattle) again.
  24. Looks good to me. I have been on a post-apoc kick lately (just finished Fallout 4). If the artwork of the book is similar to the website, I will be happy. I really liked the scenery work on the website and your Sigil artist page (Ace3). Will you have an all digital package (PDF and hero designer)? I have been going digital for the past year or two. I think that the Monster Hunter International was the last HERO kickstarter I pledged for a physical book. Good luck! Norm. PS. Since you are an artist, have you thought about stretch goals/add-ons? Things like: character portraits (like Fallout 1/2 and Wasteland) that can be used in Hero Designer characters sheets; some scenery/maps that can be imported into virtual table tops (Roll20, Fantasy Grounds, etc). For all I know, I could be in the minority since we game using Roll20.
