  1. Hi Spence. I had forgotten about that site. According to the wayback machine, it was last indexed in 2013. However, it was stating that the site was down due to some old hacking issues. There is an email address on the page if you want to try to reach out. The aroooo dot com site is actually still up and running. https://web.archive.org/web/20130519003819/http://www.starherofandom.com:80/ You have to go back to 2008 to get any of the content. I tried a couple of the links/pages and they worked. Not sure what all you are looking for. https://web.archive.org/web/20080517043436/http://www.starherofandom.com:80/ Take it easy. Norm.
  2. I thought that I would write my thoughts after reading through the rules (and only skimmed through the maneuvers). One of the things that frustrate me on any forum is when people ask questions or help but do not summarize their plans/thoughts at the end. At this time, I plan on using the kingdom rules for organizations and to simulate the interaction between these organizations where the PCs are not involved. I will have to think on it more. I am hoping that this will give the world/campaign a more living and changing feel. Less structured plot. This could allow for the re-use of the setting, just in different locations. From what little I can tell of the Fallout universe, even though there are Brotherhood of Steal (yes, misspelled on purpose) are in most places, they seem to be more of a feudal system. The individual Elders are given a lot of leeway on how they run things and how they pursue their goals. We will have to see how much time it adds. If I can get this working, I hope to re-use the idea in other campaigns. For example, worlds/homeworlds in Star Hero, actual kingdoms in Turakian Age. and prominent families/clans in Valdorian Age. We will have to see. Thank you for responding Assault and Megaplayboy. Norm.
  3. I am tinkering with the idea of running a Fallout/The Morrow Project type of game for my group. It looks like I have a 6 months to a year, so no pressure in designing it. I have heard of The Morrow Project and just bought it to mine some ideas. Additionally, I have played through about 3/4 of the Fallout 4 video game. One of the main ideas/missions in Fallout 4 is the creation, building, upkeep, defense, and/or subjugation of settlements. I was wondering how to represent a settlement other than the classic size of town/base/camp, types of inhabitants, and special features/loot/weapons. I then remembered that I bought the 'The Ultimate Base' a long time ago. Never read it, but it mentioned Kingdom Rules in the jacket/write-up. I am starting to look at them right now. I was wondering if many people have used those rules and how they liked them. I am looking at the rules with regard to the following thoughts: 1. Use Kingdom rules in combat. Could I speed up combat buy having the PCs classified as a unit and attack the town/base? Would this simplify things a little too much? Maybe bore the players.... 2. Should I just use this to organize and cement the idea of the towns, organizations/groups, and bases? 3. Would using something like this push the PCs to actually scout an area and not just go in guns blazing? Would it actually change the perception of the towns, etc? So I am coming to the forum for advice on if I should use the Kingdom rules and how to use them if I do. Norm.
  4. Today, I saw a copy of 6th Edition Vol 1 & 2 at Half Price Books in Bellevue, WA. Sorry, I forgot to take a picture and look at the actual prices on them. Volume 1 looked like it had quite a bit of wear on the spine.
  5. Man.... I have not bought anything here in a while. Now with you and other people writing fantasy adventures and other source material. I am going to have to come back and spend some money.
  6. I will have to watch that.... They are also running a kickstarter for a new series - Legend of Grimrock: The Series. Only 3 days left. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/waysidecreations/legend-of-grimrock-the-series As far as anything else, the KS page points to another short show Nuka Break - Red Star
  7. Here is a weird Idea out of left field.... Poker chips. Those cheap, ridged ones that everyone buys in high school or college. Easy to stack... can get a cheap set to hand out to players. I do like your ideas for just using coins. You can be an evil, bastard GM and say that it also is tracked in your encumber rules.
  8. True. However, I find myself playing Pathfinder right now. Been GM'ing for our group for 3+ years straight. Got a little burned out and one of the players offered to GM. He chose Pathfinder. It is easier for him and he is running us through one of the adventure paths. I am enjoying being on the player side of the game, I just wish it was Fantasy Hero. Who knows, I should hopefully have time to start coming up with my own stuff. I will probably end up converting some Pathfinder stuff. Like our current GM, family and work keep me busy. See... He works 50+ hours a week and has 3 kids (2 of them in boy scouts) and does not have time to design everything. The big kicker is that he does not feel he has the experience to convert the adventure path to Fantasy Hero. Another player in our group may also GM... again, it will be Pathfinder. He has been buying up all of the Midgard setting from Kobold Press. A campaign setting with a lot of adventures. I know that there is an old argument about not having adventures because they do not sell. I just really wish that it could work. I love Fantasy Hero, but with little support compared to other systems.... Look like we will only play it if I GM it. Norm.
  9. Ordered 7 sets. 2 Sets for me and 1 set for each of the others in my gaming group. Took the opportunity to catch up on the small PDFs that Steve has been putting out..
  10. Clonus, Might I suggest that you look a little at something already for sale at the Hero Store by Jason Walters.... Posthegemony: Terra Nomenklatura I have not read that far into it, but the setting is like you are describing, but more in the Max Headroom era. They also have a short story you can download for free: A Remembrance Of Her I do have to say that i really like what you have been writing. Norm.
  11. Re: Fantasy Fiction From Steve in THE END WAS NOT THE END Anthology Congrats Steve!!! And give a holler when it comes available.
  12. Re: Looking For Input On Potential New Fantasy Product Great..... Jason asks another question while work was getting in the way of me replying to his last one... Jason, I think that I agree with teh bunneh. If kickstarter is the death of distribution, maybe you should not go that route. Maybe some supplements could be done by kickstarter. Especially if you are trying to bring in more people. How is Champions Complete doing? Could you use a ratio from 5E and 6E sales of both Champions and Fantasy Hero, then compared to Champions Complete to see if it is worth your while to do this? If this a stand alone book sign me up for two or three. I know that it does not really help. I have heard that the writing, editing, art, and such are the main costs of books. If you did it yourself, would it be possible to do pre-orders to help with the print run estimates. Hell, if it helps with the distributors, could you go back to the old model of a delay in selling the books on the Hero site? Maybe two weeks? Good luck in this Jason, I really hope that it succeeds. Norm.
  13. Re: Looking For Input On Potential New Fantasy Product Sorry for posting late in the game. I will pretty much be restating some ideas already mentioned before.... As far as why I play Fantasy Hero: Character development/customization - Most of our group started our current game by choosing from Race, Profession, and Cultural templates. However, as the game progressed they were able to choose how their character grew. If they wanted a wizard that learned to fight with a rapier, they could. That is how I pretty much introduced Fantasy Hero to three new people in our group. Unified rules for skills and combat. While we mainly play Fantasy, I like that we can easily play Future, Post-Apocalyptic, and Modern without needed to learn new rules. I know that this is against the idea of Fantasy Hero Complete, but it is the main reason that I have kept gaming with Hero. I also wanted to say thank you to both Spence and Lord Liaden for their wonderful posts on page 3 of this thread. Spence's post includes a description of a customer (and yes, I am only one customer) who will not buy products that are Champions related. I own almost all of 5E, but at 6E I only started to buy things that I may play (Star Hero, Fantasy Hero). There are some exceptions here and there due to their content. Book of the Empress is an example because it could easily be used for Star Hero. I did not buy Champions Complete and will not buy this product if it is depended upon CC. I already have all of the core library. If this were to be an stand-alone item, I would definitely buy it and a couple more for my group to use as reference. I really like Spence's idea of having things distilled/filtered/transformed for use in the fantasy genre. Keep the book in the fantasy feel - change bugging to eavesdropping, etc. Basically love his summary at the end. Lord Laiden's post excited me because I am one of those people that have been begging and pleading for more details in the Turakian Age. It is a very rich world that covers a very broad scope. I feel that I do not have the time to fill in all of the details. I know that this was stated a couple of more places in this thread. With the Internet, all sorts of information is available about today's world for use in modern (or recent) day Champions game. Always been a little jealous of that. Right now, I am buying world info and adventures from Paizo and Kobold Press. Less time to read their material and shoe-horn them into Turakian Age. As an ending point, a member of our group wants to GM. We have been playing Fantasy Hero for two years and he is proficient with it. However, he is working 50 hours a week, has three kids, two of them are going through boy scouts (which he volunteers a lot for). At the same time, his kids have expressed interest in RPGs. He does not have time to build worlds and develop campaigns. Therefore, he is going to use PathFinder because he can buy the rules, world, and campaign for one complete system.
  14. Re: MYTHIC HERO: What Do *You* Want To See? I know that you keep on saying that you want a big book and do it right. How has your other PDFs (magic, books of undead, Acquitaine) done on this site? Basically I am asking if there was enough movement on your other items to get you to even consider the idea of selling Mythic Hero in chapters/mythoi? The only other thing that I can think of to try get it published is to redo a Kickstarter that would be to have some cheaper levels to offer PDFs of mythoi groupings or sub-sections of the book. The question is... would you would get more people paying a lesser price (and hopefully more overall money) or would you end up slitting your own throat by losing people that would pay the full PDF (and maybe book) level to get their favorite mythoi?
  15. Re: Star Hero Setting: The Fires of Heaven Some they do, some they don't.... At least on the Hero Store. This one they did. https://www.herogames.com/viewItem.htm?itemID=263972 Just bought it. Noticed that the Print is $24.95 and the Print/PDF combo is also $24.95. Dave, Tina, and Company... PM if that is a mistake and we can re-run my card.
  16. Re: Star Hero Setting: The Fires of Heaven Rock on!!!! I have been waiting for this since the Project WyrmStar announcement. Will get it when the PDF/Print combo is available.
  17. Re: TUALA MORN -- Interested In More Stuff? OK, OK..... I will stop begging for more material from The Turakian Age. Looking forward to spending money on your work. Although, after the chunk of change that I dropped on the Cityographer Kickstarter Project, I hope that these trickle out instead of appearing all at once.
  18. Re: TUALA MORN -- Interested In More Stuff? I would probably buy it just to have some ready fantasy countries fleshed out. Are we talking 5 or so pages per country? Maybe up to 10 pages? For something like that, I would be willing to pay a couple of bucks. Heck, I would be willing to pay for more of a detailed write-up of the countries in the Turakian Age. What can I say, I pretty much buy almost anything non-Champions and non-Pulp. I may have to rethink the Pulp. I even buy the Hero Plus stuff.
  19. Re: D&D 4E Style Minions Not really into the SuperPower thing, so I do not know if this is even possible as I do not play with a bunch of fancy write-ups. I may have even read it somewhere. How about expanding a bit on what Susano said about treating the group/squad as a creature? 1. Some sort of multi-limb with autofire (hit limit on the number of limbs). Should also make it easier to roll up (I think). Any 'limb' that takes damage is destroyed. Almost like some skeleton write-ups somewhere. 2. A creature that has a no-range AoE attack (minion swarm). Creature size (and AoE) is dependant on the number of Body left. I should not be thinking and trying to write this late at night.
  20. Re: Anti Paladin I know that this may be an answer without really helping you. But for a NPC that I had the party meet, I just took the paladin powers from the Turakian age and flipped them. Instead of detect evil, detect good. Instead of +X DCV versus evil creatures/humaniods, +X DCV versus good. Etc..... And yes, call me an evil GM, but detect good should be a freaking powerful spell. Detect evil was written up to the detail that the paladin should even be able to detect evil intentions. After flipping it, I do not think that there is an easier way to get close to a reasonably 'good' person (or threaten/blackmail them) than to have an anti paladin with the ability to detect what they hold good and dear. The party really freaked out and had a hard time with the evil Paladin. Well.... that and the evil/cursed sword he carried that tried to posses a party member with curious disadvantage when it was picked up after the battle. Norm. PS. The Turakian Age character pack for Hero Designer (https://www.herogames.com/viewItem.htm?itemID=185288) is only $4. I would imagine that it would have the 'good' paladin powers. Not sure. The PDF (https://www.herogames.com/viewItem.htm?itemID=227047) is $11. Edit: verified that the HD pack has Paladin Powers files, but did not look into them.
  21. Re: He had a mug that only a Hero could love I was going to point you to a sticky thread for Cafe Press stuff in the 'Online Store & Cafe Press Questions' forum. http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php/33949-Cafe-Press-Info But, none of the links seem to work. A quick search for 'hero games' brings up a bunch of guitar hero and video game cups.
  22. Re: Support HERO Indirectly... Didn't AEG produce a bunch of D&D adventures that were only about 3 or 4 pages folded to look like a brochure? I think that they sold them somewhere between $2 to $5. Did those go anywhere?
  23. Re: So how did you guys learn the system? I was introduced to the HERO System in my first year of college. Actually started with the 4th Ed (BBB) right before Hero Games stopped publishing things in the early 1990s. Pretty much played everything (Fantasy/Star/Cyber Hero) over the years except for Champions. Stayed with it as way to learn one rule system for any genre.
  24. Re: AGP2 hardback Yes. I apologize. I when I read the original thread, I saw hard copy, not hardback/hardcover. Sorry for the confusion.
  25. Re: AGP2 hardback I bought the AGP2 back in October. It seems to be out of stock. With the way that things are right now, PDF will most likely be your only option.
