  1. Green Lanterns Boodikka and Kilowog

Here are 6th Edition write-ups for two Green Lanterns that I liked and felt were underutilized for one reason or the other: Boodikka and Kilowog. Their artistic renders for the Green Lantern film were noteworthy, even if the film was not. 🙂

    Boodikka - 600 pts
    Kilowog - 600 pts

  3. Merlin

This is a write-up for Merlin the Magician adapted from various Arthurian legends, films, and RPG write-ups for D&D. Included is the Hero Designer file and character sheet (5th Edition) in Microsoft Word. Some design notes:

    1) Most of what I read depicted Merlin as a diviner and seer who works through others rather than actively commit direct action. The most common abilities depicted were his divination to see into the future, ability to move through nature much faster than normal means (those traveling with him also moved faster as a result), and glamour magic (illusions). I increased the END cost for his glamour since he often needed to sleep for an extended amount of time to use that magic.

    2) I adapted some of his abilities depicted in Romance of the Perilous Land RPG where Merlin is a druid and is able to summon forces of nature to strengthen others.

    3) I definitely included his lust as a disadvantage, since it was his lust that got him duped into being imprisoned in a magical tree by the Lady of the Lake (Viviene) in order to get him to stop fawning after her. 😉

  4. Reimagined Arthurian Legends

I recently read Osprey Games' Romance in the Perilous Land that had interesting interpretations of characters from Arthurian romance. Inspired by the work, I developed four re-imagined legends from Arthurian legends. They are the following:

    1) Queen Guinevere is a knight. In this incarnation, war has come to Camelot. Initially healing the injured, Guinevere takes a more active role and takes up arms as the casualties rise and the war is not going in Camelot's favor. She still has her secret affair with Sir Lancelot, so I added the disguise and concealment skills that she would likely use.

    2) Elaine of Astolat is a knight. This version of Elaine takes up arms shortly after Sir Lancelot spurns her romantic advances after healing him where the villain knight Sir Turquine kills her father and attempts to ravage her. She wounds Sir Turquine enough to drive him away, and takes up arms to defend her home since he will return.

    3) Sir Pelleas is a returning crusader. In the story I read Sir Pelleas is betrayed by Sir Gawain and spurned by his love interest Ettarre, who Gawain lies about killing him and seduces her for his own benefit. Pelleas finds them sleeping together and leaves his sword laying on top of them to show Ettarre that he's alive and his honor to Gawain by sparing his life despite the betrayal. From there, my idea is that he leaves Camelot to protects traders and pilgrims to the Holy Land, comparable to a knight templar and gaining valuable experience, skills, and knowledge along the way and now wields a powerful scimitar to replace the sword he left behind. When he learns of King Arthur losing the war in Camelot, he returns to serve his king one more time.

    4) Sir Palamedes is a beast-hunter/cavalier from Arabia. I kept Palamedes a follower of the Islamic faith in this write-up and does not convert as depicted in the story I read. He's still in love with Iseult and wants to make her his third wife and is hunting the legendary Questing Beast. I loosely adapted him from the Ardeth Bey character depicted in Universal's Mummy and Mummy Returns films.

    Enjoy! 🙂

  5. Shining Knights of Wizard Fire

This project is out of pure nostalgia from a video arcade game I once played...Wizard Fire a.k.a. Dark Seal II. 🙂 The WinZip contains Microsoft Excel and Hero Designer files for the following characters:

    Carl Greystone - Knight
    Jade Greataxe - Fighter
    Hark Riger - Bard
    Freya Edirne - Wizard
    Eminna Jozestore - Elf fighter-mage

  6. Red Sonja

There have been fan write-ups of Robert E. Howard's Red Sonja for D&D, so here's my interpretation of the famous character of the sword and sorcery genre for Fantasy Hero. Included is the Hero Designer file,  Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word to use, edit, and print as you see fit.

    Enjoy! 🙂

    General Notes
    1) Red Sonja is a mythic level hero, so 200 points were used in the character write-up.
    2) Despite wearing even less armor than Conan of Cimmeria with her iconic metal bikini, Red Sonja is seldom hit and does not suffer significant damage despite many battles, being dropped from high places, fights with monsters, and so on. I attributed that to the goddess Scathach's divine power bestowed on Red Sonja and is reflected accordingly.

  7. Heroes and Villains of Dungeons & Dragons

That Dungeons & Dragons toy display I saw must have had a profound impact, because it inspired me to complete character write-ups with some back story under Hero System 5th Edition. Included in this WinZip file are the following:

Mercion - 125 pts (Hero Designer and Microsoft Excel)
Ringlerun - 200 pts (Hero Designer file, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word)
Teresa Lysander - 150 pts (Hero Designer file, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word) - Entirely new character I created
    Spectral Bear (Microsoft Word only)
Strongheart - 175 pts (Hero Designer file, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word)
Marengo, Strongheart's Destrier (Microsoft Word only)
Turan, Strongheart's Bronze Dragon (Microsoft Excel and Word)
Warduke - 175 pts (Hero Designer file, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word)
Hesperos, Warduke's Nightmare (Microsoft Word only)
Kelek - 200 pts (Hero Designer file, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word)
Skylla - 175 pts (Hero Designer file, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word)

    General Notes:
    1) Warduke's been depicted wielding his sword with his left and right hand by various artists, so I made him ambidextrous.
    2) I developed a backstory between Bronze Dragon and Nightmare and gave them names. Their adaptations are from the 5th Edition Book of Dragons and Bestiary, respectively.
    3) I created Teresa Lysander as the character who raised Bronze Dragon (see his backstory), inspired by Magic: The Gathering's Keeper of the Beasts card. I also created Spectral Bears, another Magic: The Gathering adaptation.
    4) I sort of went crazy on Ringlerun's spells, adapting them from various Magic: The Gathering cards that I used to play many years ago. Of note is Absorb, which combined Counterspell and Healing Salve, and Lightning Helix, which combined Lightning Bolt and Healing Salve. 😀
    5) Perks and Talents were minimally used, if at all. If used, they were added to the "Skills & Abilities" category.
    6) I eliminated the Magic Skill roll requirement from previous write-ups. In the various fantasy themed books, comics, shows, and films I've read and watched, the spells pretty much happened following some incantations, gestures, etc. and I wanted to replicate that effect. Spell misfires or failures were often attributed to something else associated with the story or a character weakness that would later be addressed or be a recurring theme as part of the overall story.

  10. Conan the Barbarian

There have been several fan write-ups of Robert E. Howard's Conan the Barbarian, so here's my interpretation of the famous character synonymous with the sword and sorcery genre. Some general design notes:

    1) Character build is 225 points, putting Conan as an epic hero and entering superhero levels. He was featured in the Marvel Universe around 2018 fighting against and with the likes of Kraven, Spider-Man, and such, so it seemed a comparable fit.

    2) Different options are listed for weapons and armor, as there have been times Conan wears leather armor, scalemail, or is just bare chested with a helmet, shield, and weapon of choice. The cinematic interpretation of Conan (Arnold Schwarzenegger) has him with an Atlantean sword, while various comics feature him with a broadsword and/or a battle axe.

    3) Conan seldom suffers injury or hit, which I attribute to a combination of a high DCV for Fantasy Hero for his physical attributes and skills, toughened skin, Combat Luck, and actual Luck points. The latter two I attribute to Crom. 🙂

    Enjoy!

  11. Kelek

I came across a Kelek action figure on display from the Dungeons & Dragons toy series and got inspired to do a character write-up using the statistics provided on the box. I used Fantasy Hero (3rd Edition rules) with 75 points as base, 75 points of Disadvantages, and went from there. Included is the Hero Designer file, Adobe pdf, and Microsoft Excel version to edit or print.

  18. Ms. Victory (Joan Wayne, Jennifer Burke)

Here are my character write-ups for AC Comics' Ms. Victory, featuring the original (Joan Wayne) and her daughter who was her temporary replacement (Jennifer Burke). Both are roughly each other's equal in power levels at around 400 points for 6th Edition. In the few times I brought them to a game convention, players who had heard of Ms. Victory used her for the scenario (the original was generally preferred since she could fly).

The Hero Designer Files and character sheets in Microsoft Word and Adobe PDF are included in the Zip file for both 5th and 6th Edition.

  19. Flare for 6th Edition

This is my interpretation of the character Flare introduced in the League of Champions comic book series decades ago and featured in the cover art of various early Champions RPG books. Special thanks to Hero forum members pblemguy for referring me to the post where fan contributors worked on the character write-ups of these "old-school" characters and Cassandra, since her write-up of Flare served as my starting point. 🙂

She is at 425 points, which is the equivalent of what I would refer to as an, "Experienced" version in terms of the HeroClix frame of reference (i.e. Rookie, Experienced, Veteran).

  20. Defender and Quantum

These are new incarnations of Defender and Quantum from the Champions team that are a blend of 4th Edition and New Millennium versions that were the inspiration behind their design. This version of Defender is Johnny Harmon, another member of the famed Harmon family legacy and Quantum is Oreithya Allen (goes by Oya for short), the niece of Starlyn Johnson, the original Quantum. At 450 points, she's a bit more powerful that the standard hero starting out (400 points) due to her origin story where she was mentored and trained by her aunt, giving her an added advantage.

  22. Shining Force

Around the mid to late 1990s, there was a long gap for me in being able to participate in RPG sessions. To fill that void, I played Shining Force and Shining Force II on the Sega Genesis console. They were fun games at the time and "scratched that proverbial itch." More recently, I saw them being featured on the re-released Sega Genesis 30th Anniversary console as part of the 40-game package provided. Seeing it again made me feel nostalgic, so I wrote up stats for some of the key characters. My intent was to keep those characters simple and reasonably replicate them from the game. If used them at an event, they would be for players who were new to the Hero System.

The characters featured are Maximillian (main hero the player uses), Mae (centaur knight), Anri (human mage), and Luke (dwarf fighter) in a Zip file with Adobe pdf and Hero Designer files.

    Enjoy! 🙂
