History: In an alternate universe somewhere nearby our own, there was a massive solar flare which somehow "awakened" the recessive genes of several hundred people within Hudson City, granting them superhuman abilities although they are mostly low level compared to what is shown in the movies and comic books.
Policewoman Helen Paladino was among those affected by the flare and found herself with the power to manipulate gravity though its effects involved the decreasing of mass (by making herself lighter to perform extremely high leaps and causing people she touches become "light headed"). Disdainful of the whole silly comic book fetishes that appeared once the Metas (as those transformed were now called) began to draw attention, Helen refused to run around in her underwear, preferring instead to publicly register with the government and join the HCPD Supercrimes Division in order to monitor Metas and investigate crimes involving them.
