  1. You can do that too. If everything is tied to the same stat, tho, you can maintain the modifier linkage by just selecting one of them, then just tweaking the label fields. Custom Skill has no connection to an underlying stat.
  2. I don't think that's true. The longstanding demonization of anything and everything Democratic has the effect of making any Democrat totally anathema...that even the racism and fascism are bad choices...but the Democratic alternatives are far WORSE. The problem is that the primary process tends to favor the extremists, so by the time the general election comes around, even the moderate Republicans feel they HAVE to support the extremist, warts and all.
  3. But many of those faces won't be looking in your direction, or will be obscured by a hat, or by something else like someone taller in front of them, etc. Searching for minds/radios, that wouldn't really matter, so the comparison doesn't seem to fit. Searching for a particular voice...that might be closer. That said...hmm. A couple levels of Rapid might be another approach. It doesn't entirely feel right; it's perfect scanning through frequencies, but cell towers operate in very specific bands. https://www.signalboosters.com/blog/cellular-frequency-bands-a-simple-breakdown/ Mmm...that might still work, as the character can certainly know all those bands, and Rapid would allow him to scan through them quickly enough. I'll think about it.
  4. Plus, the sheer size of 6E is already an issue...look at the whole "is 6E too complicated" thread. There's no consensus, but it's also got support for at least saying "in some areas, yes." Much of the material in APG is fairly narrow/specialized/niche somehow...which means, not that useful in the core work. Finding anything in the PDFs is already a PITA without adding a lot more text. Now, if 6E can be edited, revised for cleanup on some things, and certain things reconsidered (I think Damage Reduction is notably overpriced, for example)...and reorganized in HTML...then the length issue becomes irrelevant. "Special cases" can be a link to discussions like (I've got APG I open) Damage To Subject, under the skills rules.
  5. Wouldn't Tracking require you to find it in the first place? That's the core question...given that, at any time, there might be something like 100,000 active cell phone calls, say...how do you find the specific one you want? That feels like Mind Scan.
  6. Mmm...I'd bet on the Raiders, I think. Granted...betting on a game where both teams have been eliminated is nearly the height of folly. (THAT is betting on bowl games.) Consider...from one of the line aggregator sites... Chargers -1.5 over Chiefs (nothing to play for) Steelers -3.5 over Ravens (nothing to play for) Bills -3 over Dolphins...even tho it's in Miami. This one surprises me, as Miami should want the #2 seed fairly seriously. Raiders -2.5 over Denver, about what I'd guess. Fun one? Colts -1 over Texans. Winner has a very good chance to make it, loser is probably out. Odds are this will be a Saturday game; it looks like that announcement will be after SNF, since it hasn't been announced yet. I did see that both games will have playoff implications...no Denver/Vegas, where both are toast. What would've been amusing...had KC lost, then Denver *could've still won the division*. So, who would they start, Wilson or Stidham? Stidham, presumably, but that would leave NO DOUBT that Wilson is gone. Not like there's much. Oh well, the hypothetical didn't arise. EDIT: and Carolina clinches the worst record, so the Bears lock up the #1 pick...which is kinda good, cuz they've been winning too much. Their own pick right now would be in the 10-12 range.
  7. They're not included because the combinations are just suggestions for making the combos, for when the campaign doesn't want to sink that many points into skills. The options are too diverse to include in HD; note that the suggestions include both standard 3+2 skills based on a characteristic, and the background skills, and setting up a custom Enhancer...which, they suggest, might include non-background skills. I'm not sure that's even doable in HD without some code changes. And the applicability seems fairly narrow, so the effort/benefit ratio doesn't seem particularly favorable. How I'd do this in HD would probably depend greatly on what the combo was. Simplest case? Athletics has Acro, Break, and Climb...all DEX skills. OK, buy one, then just edit the Name and Display lines. Cat Burglar has Climb, Lockpick, and Secur Sys...DEX, INT, INT. If the DEX and INT are the same, and likely to stay the same, you can do the above. If not, then just elaborate in the Display line. Won't update neatly, unfortunately...but that's true with a Custom Skill too. I'd use a Custom Skill when you're combining normal and background skills, probably.
  8. Basis for an information gathering specialist. HRRH, with discriminatory and analyze...I don't figure there'd be much argument about how well he could process the signal. Oh, and a great Cryptography roll, to break secure transmissions. But there's a lot of radio traffic out there, so if he wants to find a specific transmitter....... Sounds like Mind Scan, for the Radio class of "minds"? Make sense to folks? The Machine class is too broad, he can't read a computer. A radio typically has no EGO...for purposes of finding here, I'm thinking --the MDCV base would be 3; unfamiliar minds, and number of minds, apply. --for determining level of effect, the base EGO is 0. If the attack roll works, he's automatically getting general location/presence/direction, and the +10 won't take much. +20 won't be hard if enough Scan is bought...that's still TBD. --this is a scan only, there's no way he can attack the radio back, or interfere with it at all...but at that point, the HRRH kicks in, and he can listen in at his leisure. --side thought...if he's trying to find a cell phone...mind scan doesn't cost END to maintain, so he can keep it up...for the location/direction info, if the transmitter is on the move. Thoughts?
  9. I've started on that Chinese-elements...or hermetic elements, as the Chinese elements are a tad redundant...multiform build. Not sure I ever finished it, as we're talking 5 or 6 character sheets.
  10. Debatable. Expected? I'd buy that...... KC pulls a double KO, tho...Cincy and Denver are both eliminated. And the Rams are showing as in, so even if they lose, they have to have the tiebreakers in any possible 9-8 multi-way tie. EDIT: correction...they come in no worse than 2nd in any tie break setup.
  11. Fine, so long as you don't quote Mao.
  12. Early dusk here now, sunset's still a bit off, but the western horizon has enough clouds to darken things. An appropriate kind of day for the last day of this year.... I think I'll light a set of candles. They're just tea lights so won't last til midnight...and an hour before dawn would be somewhat more poignant, I suppose, but forget that noise.
  13. Good. There's a limit to the amount of misery every team deserves. Except the Cowboys. No limit there. Kinda funny...Friday night, Stanford Steve picked Detroit...decent chance and plus money, and he said, hey, they gotta win SOME time...so take the plus money.
  14. Just don't make such a post in Spanish.
  15. The X-15, because it deserves to be remembered. It's still the fastest crewed aircraft ever. (EDIT: missed U, drat. There's a cool one here...ultralights. A very specific class of plane that doesn't need a full pilot's license.)
  16. You're in Utah, right? The 506Sports map shows Colorado, most of New Mexico (but not here), a bit of Arizona, and LA and San Diego only. WILD. 12 of 16 games done; the only team eliminated so far is the Raiders. AFC South has 3 teams at 9-7. NFC South has TB and NO at 8-8, with ATL at 7-9...but NOT eliminated, so they have to have the tiebreaker if there's a 3-way tie...ATL beats NO, and somehow Carolina beats TB, then ATL, NO, and TB are all 8-9. My, my...Cincy and KC is getting....chipppppyyyyy...... This is a huge game, too. KC needs it bad, to stop their skid; Cincy might be eliminated if they lose.
  17. <jaw drops> Arizona 35, Eagles 31 Cards score 29 (!!!!!!!) second half points. 4 second-half possessions, 4 TDs...all 4, 70+ yards. Yeah, the Eagles are in *deep* trouble overall. That defense is getting shredded. Niners win. Ravens win. Both #1 seeds now clinched. EDIT: yeah, the Ravens flat out told the AFC...the road to the Super Bowl goes through us. Good luck with that. EDIT 2: CBS studio guys pointed out...the Eagles loss suddenly made the Detroit/Dallas outcome, and the mess of the 2 point play, HUGELY!!!!! significant. DALLAS is the current #2 seed, Detroit #3, and Philly #5. That 2 point play stands? Detroit is #2, SF does NOT clinch the #1 seed, Philly is #3, Dallas is #5.
  18. Early scan through the scoreboard while watching the very interesting Fins-Ravens game.... C.J. Stroud is back, and the Texans are *rolling* the Titans right now. 20-0. Beginning to wonder if maybe Carolina's finally packed it in? 9-0 Jacksonville right now, without Lawrence. Carolina offense has been non-existent...19 plays, 28 yards. If nothing else, figure the OC is gone in 9 days. Titans' offense was similarly inept...I saw a QB change already, but not why. Ah...there it is. Talk about insult AND injury. Levis gets sacked, loses the ball, it's a scoop and score for the Texans...AND he's taken off with a foot injury. EDIT: Lamar Jackson may be slamming the door on anyone else for MVP. First half so far... 10/11, 219 yards, 2 TDs; 2 rushes for 24 yards. 21-13 Ravens so far. Hey, what's going on???? BACK TO BACK interesting TV games??????????? Happy New Year to us!!!
  19. I froze the forum up trying to post the pic of my pear custard tart...I figured it was my fault tho. I was pasting the copy from my inbox, having mailed it to myself, and it was posting as a .png....a BIG file. 20+ meg. And it was acting slow, so I tried to paste it again...silly, impatient me. 40+ megs of images directly posted? Not a link? And then trying to delete them? Software CONFUSED!!!!! Yeah, OK, maybe the forum software wasn't real happy with me....close the tab, give it a sec, re-open. Paste the image into Paint, cut down its size (iPad pics are BIG!) save as a JPEG instead...voila! And it may well be that it's related to image posting volume. Certainly a sensible move. Maybe, same with what I did. Looked kinda bot-like, maybe.
  20. I agree with that argument when it comes to the final decision...but not while issuing the temporary stay. Not true. Smith's argument was that time was critical, to ensure the public interest, yes. Trump's lawyers only need to argue that in the event they win their appellate point, the entire case goes *poof*...therefore, allowing the trial to proceed when there may be no legal basis for it, is improper and punishes a non-guilty client. You can't try someone who's innocent. Smith was arguing for an extraordinary action; Trump's lawyers will be arguing for a normal action...and one that the lower court ALSO granted. The trial was put on hold *until the appellate court decided the appeal.* Same argument holds for the next-level appellate court...the Supreme Court. I think NOT staying the trial is by far the least likely action. What's far more likely is they decline to hear the case in the first place, rejecting the appeal. THAT is possible; they may think, as LL notes, the Trump claim is untenable. Their review of the appellate court record is enough; they don't need to hear arguments. I don't think they'll do that, but they've rejected enough of Trump's weak arguments that they might. But if they choose to hear the appeal? They'll issue the stay. In principle, the pre-trial processes might continue once the appellate court renders its decision, assuming it's against Trump, but once Trump files a notice to appeal (which probably has to be done quickly), those processes probably won't move forward at least until the SC decides to take the case or not. If if the processes do continue? Well, the SC will almost certainly decide to take the case, or not, LONG before the trial date.
  21. The league is going to look at that play and talk to the refs, because at the very least, the optics are REALLY bad/confused. Campbell's aggressive. Yeah, fine, kicking the FG early on, with the 4th and goal at the 4? Maybe. Going for the TD has to work 3 times in 7...call it 40%. Is it 40% to score from the 4, in one play? I doubt it...particularly when it's 4th down, and the defense knows it's end zone or bust. Most runs are off the table; from the 4, there's time to react. So I can't see 40%...and therefore, kick. By the same token, I don't think it's seriously wrong to go for it. Short field goals let the defense off the hook...I firmly believe they're a losing tactic, long term. But they can still be the best option given the specifics. 4th and 1? Go for it, IF you have the offensive options to do it. Some teams are *terrible* at short yardage; that's a factor to me, but one the stats probably don't consider.
  22. Oh sweet mother of technicalities.... Lions drive *smoothly* all the way down to a TD to make it 20-19. Campbell goes for 2...it's a pass to a lineman in the TE spot. It works. But that lineman, according to the refs...did not report. Or someone didn't. Among other formation issues, according to the ESPN rules maven there. A second try, the Cowboys are offsides. THIRD try...fails. I liked going for it the first time. Not sure about the 2nd...it was from the 7. DON'T like going for it the 3rd time. Going for it immediately after the drive, the defense is off balance...but tries that fail? Tend to let them get their balance back. It could've worked, but my gut feeling is the percent chance of the 2 point try working, goes DOWN on those later reps in the same possession. Plus, the Lions started with their preferred calls and have to be moving down as it went along. SO close. Cowboys 20, Lions 19. EDIT: huh, surprise. ESPN gets 2 games Saturday in week 18. I may well have forgotten, but...I didn't think they did any of those. The games were largely kept into tight windows, with little/no chance that a result in the early slot would render an afternoon game meaningless. I presume that principle will still hold...which may well mean at least one *dog* of a game...Pats-Jets, probably Broncos-Raiders, maybe Bears-Packers. Also, Falcons-Saints may mean loser's out...but the Tampa Bay result will still matter. It's kinda crazy that ONLY 4 teams from each conference have been eliminated with just 2 games left.
