  1. Re: [Campaign] The new, NEW Champions of Vancouver! Just a brief overview: Introduced a new player, a parapsychologist speedster calling himself Mercury, so the gaming part of the session was a bit shorter, owing to the need to make him a character. Started out with a recap of the last session, followed by a hasty meeting with Nemesis' UNTIL liason. She informed the Nemesis and Ifrit that there were reports of a VIEPR nest in downtown Maple Ridge, but they didn't have the manpower for a full-on assault. Did agree to help keep any stragglers from getting out of the area, plus put them in touch with a possible new recruit. Cut to Mercury investigating a cleared out DEMON-hame. Turned out that a vagrant had come across an enchanted DEMON-mace and was making a bit of a nuisance of himself. PLus he was talking to said mace, thinking it a gift from the (insert appropriate deific power here). The melee part fo the encounter consisted of Mercury telling him that he was an agent of the power that made the mace, he was here to test him (nice bit of RPing there), followed by a Grab/Disarm, then a PRE attack, tellign said vagrant that he wasn't worthy of the weapon. UNTIL agents show up, take Mercury to meet Nemesis & Ifrit, anf the trio go off to trash a VIPER nest! It went well until three agents scored a co-ordinated attack on Ifrit with some blaster rifles... More later!
  2. Re: [Campaign] The new, NEW Champions of Vancouver! Hmm. Can we all agree that it's a big empty undeveloped lot between Ritchie Ave. and Brickwood ;-) Pyre-Archer -just got a copy of Invasion: Target Earth. And I'm not afraid to use it!
  3. Re: [Campaign] The new, NEW Champions of Vancouver! Quick update: It was across from Valley Fair Mall, not Haney Place. My bad! http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Maple+Ridge&ie=UTF8&ll=49.215397,-122.594182&spn=0.007625,0.02223&t=h&z=16
  4. Re: How would Stronghold imprison your character? Pyre Archer - Magically powered flame blaster. As long as he didn't dump any XP into a magical power pool, a conventional anti-flame blaster cell would do. The Musketeer - Psychokinetic blaster. Bit more conventional any anti-psi tactics would work here. And given his somewhat extreme stance regarding the IHA, I could easily see him winding up in there. Fairly straightforward builds both, and both easy to subdue if necessary.
  5. Re: [Campaign] The new, NEW Champions of Vancouver! Started off with both of them showing up to rob the same jewelry store (IIRC) in the same outfit. -Then- the PCs got involved. And there's a *world* of difference. Anyone can go take a class or five and style themselves a martial artist. Only the *truly* dedicated can aspire to become a luchadore!
  6. Re: [Campaign] The new, NEW Champions of Vancouver! Characters: Uploaded in hdc format for the tech-savvy among you. The writeups are kind of sketchy, but it should giove everyone an idea of WTH I was thinking Lucky Bandit: Lyndon Kaufman, man of many identities, first appeared, IIRC, in Red Doom (I believe that was the title), and later reprinted in Classic Organizations. The Lady of the Lantern appears in the RPG Silver Age Sentinels, by the (now sadly defunct) Guardians of Order. I know that this version might not synch up with the SAS/HERO conversion notes presented in Reality Storm. I decided to just do a full rebuild of her. Personally, I think the BOECV Entangle (Ooo...pretty lights) did a better job of representing her mesmerizing ability than Mind control (You will look at the pretty lights...). Anyway, enjoy/criticize!
  7. Re: PS238 Best Game of 2008! You mean there was ever a doubt? How could Aaron Williams + HERO equal anything else but total victory? Congratulations!
  8. Re: [Campaign] The new, NEW Champions of Vancouver! Not much more to add, I think you hit all the highlights. Only thing we didn't cover is how Headache/Lady of the Lantern got out of that scrape with Venomous Shadow. But then, that's what email/blue booking is for! Hmm, still haven't forked over those writeups for the Lucky bandit and the Lady of the Lantern. Time to unearth my non-internet computer and a flash card...
  9. Re: The new NEW Champions of Vancouver Base Oh, we're near enough to know that story, no worries. QM, an interesting build. Mind, there's building it on paper, then there's actually clearing out some space for it. In the middle of a rather densely packed city, to boot. I don't see any DEF for the base itself, nor any defenses, either.
  10. Re: Algernon Files Plot Seeds, anyone? I never said he was an alien, QM. Out loud, anyway. Doing this at work, so I don't have the book on me, but I seem to recall that The Aerie threw a mutated man-bat (name?) to the wolves one time. Can't go wrong with a good revenge plot. And any mystically themed heroes might find themselves under the guns of The Covenant. Ona similar note, some of Templar's past lives might come back to take over the current host. Just a few thoughts!
  11. Re: Seeker, 5th Edition My Inner GM would knock that down to 50%, and tack on either (or both) 'Only to reduce BODY damage' or/and 'must be aware of attack'. And then use the saved points to boost the old EGO a tad, with similar limits on it. But I do heartily agree with the DCV add, especially if Seeker-chan expects to scoot around the CU with no resistant defenses. Hmm. I'm surprised no one's tried the old 'What happened to Seeker? Chuck Norris' line yet.
  12. Re: Approved by the Comics Code Authority Hmm... Brigand - Given that we're playing in a world where the Bad Guys won, I believe that rule 4 alone would guarantee that his world would be either steam-cleaned, or reset to pre-'Villains Win' times. Aside from that, not too many changes; no killing attacks, he's just a kid with a magic sword, overprotective mom (divorced in original, just conveniently absent post reboot) Pyre-Archer - As above, not too many changes; librarian, not a killer by any stretch, not overly affected. Musketeer - Vengeful meta with psychokinetic gun powers and a serious hate on for the IHA. All I can say is... In a deep, musty crypt, only moments ahead of Plwoht d’veyece's reality altering wave, the Musketeer and the Devil's Advocates convene, casting energies together in one final attempt to counter this threat. The cost will be high. Knowing they are branded as 'villains', despite how they think of themselves, the Advocates refuse to be forced into some eternally losing mold. Seeing an end to his mission of vengeance, psychologically emasculated by some unknowing entity, The Musketeer puts his trust in former foes, calling forth the one thing that might maintain the status quo. Victory or death. Something this Plwoht d’veyece could never understand. "Come forth...MAHQ GUFFHYN!"
  13. Re: [Campaign] The new, NEW Champions of Vancouver! A fun session all around, closing with the intro of FReDiverse (Championsverse?) Lady of the Lantern. Have a rough skeleton now, If I can get off my Call of Duty 4/LEGO Star Wars addicted butt, I'll put together a writeup. BOECV Entangle. Good for what ails you. And it seemed to represent LotL's powers better than a 'One command only' Mind Control. Anyway... VIPER (And by extension, your humble GM) is learning how to apply Co-Ordinated attacks to the heroes. Managed to Stun one of Nemesis' duplicates in one fight, and gave Headache (IIRC) a bit of a surprise. Those Redeye pistols can hurt when you do it right. So, start the Tiger Squad storyline, and do the wrapup of the Cantrip arc (For now, anyway). Just need to build a few Chinese metas to throw at the Team.
  14. Re: Who is the best Super in comics? Three best? Touchy, there are a few out there. 1: Usagi Yojimbo. Honour and nobility exemplified. 2: The Revenant from PS 238. Think of a laid-back Batman, crimefighter par excellence and professional kid sidekick trainer. 3: Really trying for a villain here, but a lot of the mainstream ones have ups and downs that kinda push me away a bit. I guess I'd have to go with Magneto when he was starting; similar ideas to Professor X, but wanted more immediate results. And that's more from familiarity and the Evolution series than anything else.
  15. Re: Superman To Lead Avengers Oh, goody. Energy Superman's coming back. I'll have to second the 'cut a deal with the Siegels' opinion. more sensible than making everyone look like the enemy to the fanboys out there.
  16. Re: This is Stupid... That one I might watch, to be honest; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGxde2a2_iQ -Intro, for anyone with the courage to watch. Character ideas... "Go forth and whine...my ANGST-MEN!" -The team of misunderstood and overly-emo moan-tants who try to be understood and respected by a bizarrely incompetent world. Don't forget Cosmic Celebrity Guy, who shows up to threaten the earth every few issues, only to get whipped by The Grimman, who's sidekicks go on be more likeable and get all the ladies... Sorry, went a bit ranty there, didn't mean to...
  17. Re: A Game Of Questions There was a topic?
  18. Re: [Campaign] The new, NEW Champions of Vancouver! What have we said about tempting the GM? Mind you, the similarities are there....
  19. Re: [Campaign] The new, NEW Champions of Vancouver! Definitely a fun session. Biggest threat so far? Not Gyre. Not DEMON. Not VIPER (yet). So far? A possessed Cantrip. (As observed by Evil Steve). Artifact domination is fun! Up next, a raid on a VIPER base in Deadman's Island, as noted by QM. Just need to generate some decent maps, guards, deathtraps, and work out the followup. Specifically, the return of Lady of the Lantern.
  20. Re: PS238 RPG Cover Preview Thanks. I knew I'd seen them before.
  21. Re: PS238 RPG Cover Preview Okay.... The two at the top of the picture are American eagle (IIRC) and Captain Clarinet. The one with the grappling line is Moon Shadow aka Tyler Marlocke, the Boy With No Powers. Glowing green kid is Emerald Gauntlet, and the two arguing in the bottom left corner are Zodon (in the hover chair) and Victor Von Fogg (Standing). No idea who the bully and bullied are, sad to say. Guess I lose the bonus points.
  22. Re: Champions Universe: The Unresolved Questions/Plots
  23. Re: [Campaign] The new, NEW Champions of Vancouver! Fun little session this past monday; Headache was unable to attend, leaving Neemsis and Ifrit to defend the entire city of Vancouver all by their lonesome. And it all started with a breakin at the Scientology building on Hastings by a mystically empowered thug. And a member of the Motor City Defenders trying to track down a missing Cantrip. So, hearing that Nemesis' secret ID was a private eye, Kid Samson showed up with a story more full of holes than...well, I'll let the reader think up their own comparison:) Tried my hand at running an investigation, as well as engaging some of Ifrit's DNPCs. Turns out that Ifrit's uncle is 'sweet', according to said Ifirit's girlfriend. Also had Nemesis and Kid Samson going all over Vancouver trying to find Cantrip. And they did. Carrying the staff and mask of one recently deceased Zorran the Artificer. I will pause to let you, the reader, picture a 8(?) foot fire demon taking on a schoolgirl. Suffice to say, schoolgirl (Minionized for our protection, naturally) managed to hold everyone off until Nemesis was able to pry the mask off. Partially. It was still drawn to her like a magnet. And then I dropped Gyre and a technomagically enhanced ride on them. Hey, she was -waiting- for those items. Apologies for the overly brief and probaqbly slightly inaccurate recall of the story so far; still can't switch between running a game and keeping notes quickly enough (And I am a slow writer, usually) But I think that hit all the high points. ANyone else?
  24. Re: [Campaign] The new, NEW Champions of Vancouver! Masterful summary as always Had to improv a bit, our team psychic wasn't able to make it, hence the UNTIL mind shields to keep everyone from being Master Control's psychic puppets. But oh, if I had pulled off that AoE mind control on Nemesis:D Or pulled an AoE Entagle, then just mind controlled one. "Who's the original?" "Him." "Thank you." (Zark!) Of course, the big bad didn't have an AoE Entangle, so it's all moot. But anyway...
