Finally saw Whisperer in the Darkness (2011) last night. Shot in b/w and had a very 40-50s film to the camera work. The acting (to me) was a little wooden at times, trying to capture the older film genre a little too much. I liked the effects as well as the plot though. A folklorist from Miskatonic U. goes into the backwoods of Vermont to investigate findings of extra-normal beings. Typical fare of H.P. of the person dying or going mad at the end (I won't say which). If you're doing a CoC or Horror style campaign I would give it a watch, just not a re-watch.

Goonies is a very pulp genre film. After Raiders of the Lost Ark, there was a plethora of pulp-themed films, mostly B-movies. Just like there were many Mad Max pastiche films in the 80s after Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior.

Thank you for the link. We're using some of these starship maps for a GURPS 3rd edition Space Opera game. I'd love it if we were using them with Traveller HERO, but the GM is a GURPS guy from way back (as am I) and getting to play in an RPGs these days is good. So, I can't complain too much.

    Electric violins are cool.

I once had the pleasure of watching a high school string orchestra performance lead by Mark Wood, the inventor of the solid body electric violin and co-founder of Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and it was incredible!

Briefly, in a section on variant types of campaigns, yeah.  My favorite Western superhero is the original Ghost Rider

I mostly use HeroClix and occasionally HorrorClix figures, along with Reaper miniatures for foes/minions. Since the Champions games I run are at conventions, players arrive and use the pre-generated characters for the scenario from the DC and Marvel Universe. At times I will also customize the figures by taking them apart and re-assembling with special modeling superglue, following by priming and then custom painting them.

Here are some villain figures I custom-created:

This is totally awesome, @Christopher R Taylor !!

I've always loved the Western Hero genre book and still reference my copy of the 4th edition version.

My approach with miniatures is to not go into a tactical boardgame, but to use them to represent facing, proximity and distance, and surrounding terrain and features (buildings, vehicles, trees, etc.) appropriate to the scene.

As for figures that I've used:

Marvel Hero Squad, though these are larger than typical 25-30mm figures.
Silver Age Sentinels official figures from some years ago.
Paper printout cardboard heroes from Autoduel Champions.

    1) I'm not aware of links to forum threads that compare the various Star HERO editions.
    2) I can only refer to Star HERO 6E, and cite specific Powers that are appropriate to Transhumanist sci-fi. Note: Transhumanism isn't explicitly discussed in Star HERO 6E, but Cyberpunk is discussed. Here are a few page references from Star HERO 6E that discuss "transhumanist" topics without stating the term:

Cyberpunk genre: pp 16 - 18 Transform power: pp 82 Alien Species chapter, specifically, Creating Alien Species, Super Intellects and uplifted animals: pp 150 Computers as Characters: pp 193 Biotechnology: pp 197 - 198 Nanotechnology: pp 199

    Hi Steve,
I know you have Chinese mythology listed, but I urge you to consider the mythological beings (gods, creatures, etc.) and folklore of Taiwan. Taiwan folklore is different than that of the mainland since it incorporates native islanders (aboriginal) myths which are unique, and a fascinating mythology in itself. Here's one site that has maintained a repository of Taiwanese folktales and traditions.

Thanks in advance for considering Taiwanese mythology.

Every superhero game needs bad guys... even non-super ones. Here's some more eye candy for you fans, old and new!

A few criminal motorcycle gangs are active in San Angelo. Outlaw bikers are known for their beloved motorcycles, often outlandish clothing and anarchic, violent behavior. Some motorcycle gangs are national organizations with chapters in various cities. A few travel the country, and others are purely local. Every outlaw biker gang has a set of “colors,” ragged jackets emblazoned with a patch, logo or other distinctive mark. Next to his motorcycle, his colors are an outlaw biker’s proudest possession. (Source: San Angelo: City of Heroes, 1998)

Enthusiastic fan quotes for some of the San Angelo sports teams and events, especially super sports would be a great addition. How about Super Major League Baseball or Super Rugby Union? Super Soccer (Football), Super National Football League, Super NBA.... Maybe some non-realworld sports specifically for superheroes: Furious Psionic Fights, or Eldritch Arcane Duels, Around the Moon NASCAR...

I'll even say that regardless of game system, having fun in a game is primarily "about campaign feel, character guidelines, and campaign setup."

Forgive me for not answering this latest question more quickly -- Hurricane Michael knocked out my power for the past 72 hours. On top of that, some wind god who's annoyed with me for some reason pushed a large tree over on my house, so I'm dealing with a lot right now. (If you want to see what that looks like, check my Facebook feed for a bunch of pictures. )

Fortunately, LL responded with all the right answers.  I'm still working on Mythic Hero as much as possible, and hope to get back to it full-time later this month once a couple other obligations are off my desk and house repairs are underway. I am currently thick in the middle of researching Celtic Mythology, a subject so broad I've divided it into 3-4 chapters. I have a loooong way to go yet on the chapter, but it's taking shape. I'll keep y'all posted whenever I have something to announce, but in the meantime you are more than welcome to post questions here for me.

I really appreciate the consistent "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach that has been applied to the various incarnations of the Hero System. Other than that whole "Fuzion" thing, I feel like it's been "the same game, but better" with every new edition.

It was Wild Wild West Revisited.  I just went to IMDB.com and looked up Robert Conrad and up it popped.  Maybe you can start there and track down a copy.
