Was running around yesterday, but congrats to Lady Pariah.  The playoffs were all nail-biters.

I'm impressed by Black Panther - it looks like he had an undefeated record second only to Wonder Woman, with about half the votes! 

The 3D6 system (as in Hero) seems to work - most results are close, very occasionally you'll have outlier rolls.

I kinda miss the character summaries we used to get with each match, but I know I complained to Commish at least once or twice about how they weren't completely accurate.

Looking forward to it! 

But hey, I think all the finalists deserve a little something.  Perhaps smaller trophies based on Beppo, the super-monkey?

Or even Comet, Supergirl's horse (though he can be a bit creepy, see below). . ..

Insectoid aliens are my fav!  The talents and complications lead me to believe they were inspired in part by the aliens in Clarke's Childhood's End.

Nice costume, love the manic grin. . .yucky carpet.  

I always liked that illustration, except for Gigantix, who just seems off. 

Wonder Winky will be watching the semi-finals very closely . . ..

Holy Satanic Showgirl, Batman!  That is very effective - the ebony skin and the 'glow' effect on the bustier.

I don't know about you guys, but a Toymaker-style villain who could control Troll dolls would scare the bejeezus out of me!!

Take it from me - when you're a cellar-dweller, the victories are that much sweeter!

Not that it matters, but I've been 100% in picking winners the last couple days.

As the mastermind, he must have some kind of network of fifth column spies feeding him info also.  That was a huge fear of the era.

As an aside, I recently came across a relevant book in the bargain section: The Law of Superheroes by James Daly and Ryan Davidson (both lawyers!).  It might be worth looking into.

Hmm. . . .the taylor is strongly implying that the suit is the source of his powers, not the man (or the sun).  Dude, sell it on ebay!

A bit like Marvel's Night Nurse.  All interesting!  It seems like so-called 'normals' are always the ones who drive superhero stories, by being in the wrong place at the wrong time, discovering clues to a secret identity, or tampering with forces they don't understand.  They inevitably develop powers of their own, too!

She didn't veer far from her source material, still, she opens up some neat ideas.  Maybe she hunts down time travelling criminals a la Timecop? (I can't remember this adventure!)

Spinner: definitely cool.  And seeing as we are creeping up on the year Blade Runner was set (2019). . . uh, where can I get one?

Yep, no matter how much Violet shrunk her body, her mind remained vulnerable.

To me, that cover's kind of odd, even by Golden Age standards.  Since Samson is clobbering Robot 1 with a morning star, my sympathy is naturally drawn to the robot.  Based on the scale of the train car and buildings, the combatants are kaiju-sized.  Based on the civilians falling out of the train, the supposed hero doesn't care if they plummet to their deaths!  Almost would've been better to let the robot abduct them (?).

I was actually wondering the same when I heard this news on NPR.  They can't very well say 'Playboy is all about the sophisticated content and we need to update it for the times' and in the same breath declare 'Playgirl?  That's pure smut and is all about the nudie shots.'

Hmmm, I think she's playing a Bride of Dracula!
