  1. I have a player who thinks it would be cool to have a sort of "Zen" power. Basically he can just do things with Zen. I am thinking this is like Familiarity with most of the skills. But he can also focus his Chi and make himself better able to perform task. For this I am thinking the following. Skill Levels (all skills) +5, concentration throughout -1/2, costs endurance -1/2. 25-points But this brings up the question. By RAW can skill levels be applied to Familiarity, or would this require GM fiat? I am introducing these guys to Hero System and want to be as close to RAW on everything as possible.
  2. I would say one difference is Ice Sheet will have no effect on a flyer, while Chill would affect flyers. So the special effect does have a mechanic.

    50 Patrons!

Cool, I did not know there was a Patreon until I saw this last week. I went ahead and jumped in. Will be nice watching your progress.
  4. My thinking was based off the idea of 2d6 killing attack is 30 points. I expect armor to matter, so I did not want the damage and effects so high they ignore the best efforts of non-magic users.
  5. I like 30 AP caps. But I follow the suggestion in 6E1 pg 52 and let you buy higher AP powers at double cost for AP over 30. I like traditional spellcasting modifiers (gestures, incantations, rituals, side effects, and all that). Except I hate Requires Skill Rolls and Activation rolls. They slow games down. I then have players specialize in domains and types of spells. We use casting styles representing things like blood magic, life magic, earth magic, ice magic or whatever else. I never go with systems like in Fantasy Hero 6th edition where they discount spells.
  6. For clairty sake. The character does not have a vehicle that changes forms or shapes. He creates a vehicle from nothing, then it ceases to exsist when he is done with it. I am curious why he would not need the Amicable modifier? The rules under summon seem pretty clear that for a vehicle he is required to pay for slavishly loyal. This might work, but I think since it is all for only one power it would feel like paying an extra tax for the control cost. The rules for summon read as summoning the vehicles cost is divided by 5. Not paying for the perk divided by 5. So it would not be a 1/25 cost. Okay, so here is another try at it, maybe any vehicle is a +1/2 modifier? Techno Conjuration Summon 150 points, Slavishly Loyal +1, Variaty of Summons (any vehicle) +1/2.75 Points total cost.
  7. In the past I was able to buy a bunch of Hero Designer prefabricated stuff. I went online to see if I could find the Champions pre-fabs. (The book called Champions, not Champions Complete). But I could not find anything except the basic hero designer software in the store. Are prefabs sold through somewhere else then?
  8. I know there is not an official one but is there a player made 6 edition GM screen out there somewhere available?
  9. drivethrurog.com/onebookshelf.com specialized in gaming and comics stuff and does offer color softback and color hardback and even premium color hardback as POD options. For example you can see here that this company has a premium hardcover option. So if they are already submiting their PDFs for POD, why not let us get color? It is the same and the custermer absorbs the cost. https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/115010/Shaintar-Legends-Arise?cPath=18886 This makes me wonder why hero Games (Jason/Darren/Steve or someone else at DOJ?) chose not to allow that option. I admit I am emotionally invested in this now, because I am trying to recruit some friends and when they see that there is no support on drivetrurpg (feedback on books being ignored for years) and no way to get the old color books back it discourages them and they simply state they do not want to play an abandoned system. It is like turning away potential custermers rather than putting a little time in allowing a PDF to be printed in color instead of B&W.
  10. He may have made it clear, but it is presented with every other rule for character creation in 6E1. It is presented as an Optional Rule, which like Christopher says above is no differnt than starting points. Is there a rule requiring a GM to start all players with the same amount of points? A house rule is specifically a term for an unofficial rule made up by players independent of the rules. When people have questions about other Optional rules do you just dismiss the question because it is an option you do not like or use? If someone asked about stop signs or difficulty modifiers to skills would you tell them to ignore them. Those are only there for GM guidelines? I think it is inconsistant to treat a concept like Active Point limits in the same way as a House Rule. They are a optional rule presented in 6E1&2 with ranges, guidelinbes and even a suggested doubling of cost for points spent above those limites. I mean come on. If they are just made up house rules why would Hero Designer need to support active point limits in the first place? To be clear, to me the "house rule" arguments are dismissive and dishonest/inconsistant with how they are presented in the system.
  11. I feel like it is being disingenuous to say that AP limits are "house rules" and being treated like some sort of second class idea. They are presented with suggested values in the core rules of 6E1, where in 5th, and in FRed. I do not recal if they were in BBB, but they are still something player and GM work with just like any other guideline. On the actual topic I like the way HD does it. And wen refering to VPP I have always had a side eye on them anyways because of how much they can slow down play.
  12. Yeah, I feel like the softcover would be great if there was a color option. But the differnce in visual pleasure when reading between a quality color print and a black and white is pretty significant. It always struck me as weird because we have created print on demand products for Driver through RPG, the file for color and black and white was the same, so we just chose color as the primary option. Then let the client pick what they wanted. I do not understand why DoJ would not let us have that option.
  13. Also, you can let drivethrurpg.com to do "high quality color hardbacks" which are really medium quality. But I think more fans than just myself would be willing to pay the increased cost of POD hardbacks. I know I would be willing to pay $100 for a solid hardback product to hold and put on my shelf. I totally miss the ones Steven signed when he came to Sedro Woolley and regret having lost them so very much.
  14. Interesting, We have the old Efficiency Rating spreadsheet that was once shared. (I think Lord Laiden made it.) Maybe I will crack that open and start digging through it to see if I remember how to use it.
  15. I am trying to make a vehicle/base that can change shape. The idea is the guy who makes it can shape ti and form it into anything he needs at the time. The following is what I have so far. 30 Summon 150 points Slavishly Loyal +1 Variaty of Summons (any vehicle or base) +1/4 67 Points total cost. He will require about 5 minutes to build the vehicle or base, but the idea is to let him do virtually any vehicle or base. My question is, would +1/4 be enough to cover any vehicle/base and with summons they normally only stick it out for a limited number of tasks. But what is a "Task" for a house?
  16. Are there any plans for printing physical books again or ways to get the hardbacks? Over time I have lost my hardbacks of the Hero 6th edition volume 1 and 2. Looking around the only options I saw were paperback from Amazon.com or drivethrurpg.com. I have an old copy of the POD paperback version and the colors are washed out and not as vibrant as the hardback was.
  17. Does anyone enforce active point limits on Characteristics other than strength? If you do, do you count the base value? For example in a 45 AP limit game a characters maximum speed would be 4 or 5? Dexterity would be limited to 22 or 32.
  18. We ended up buying a house in Mount Vernon (I guess I need to update my profile). I don't know about Dragonflight. It has been about 3 years since I went to a con. So as not to derail the thread if you want to send me a pm and we continue chatting.
  19. I have never been a one system person. Our groups has over the last 30 years bounced around a lot. When we first came across Champions I think it was the second edition and did not appeal to us. Then Champions 4th edition came along with that big hardback blue book. It was attractive and we grabbed it. Our GM back then started running it as our default system for his fantasy games. Then we stuck with it as out default system until 2016 or so. Bouncing around between it and other games. Mostly Palladium, Fuzion, and GURPS. When Rifts for Savage Worlds came out our whole group migrated to Savage Worlds and we have been playing ~75% of our games in Savage Worlds since then. But it always bugged me as not being as consistent as Hero System and I am happy my group is coming back to Hero. So long story short, I think we would be playing whatever random system appealed to us at any given moment. Hero System is the only system we always return to, even if this last time it has taken 6 or 7 years. No other system is so internally consistent IMHO.

  21. I went ahead and grabbed it and I'm happy to see that it's possible to keep both versions. Though currently I haven't seen any reason to keep the old versions. Excellent product
