  1. Re: Immortal Questions One of my characters managed something like that. I like to say "He can't do anything, not even die", as most of his points go into his "immortality". It's a pretty good Regeneration combined with enough Power Defense (a part of it also hardened to get rid of pesky penetrating effects), full life support and +30 Body (only while below 0 BODY), this way he got 30 Body more to "die bleeding" So far I found nothing that could hurt me for long, let alone kill me.
  2. Someone challenged me to convert some of the swordsman schools from 7th sea to HERO (that's what you get if you claim that you can build EVERYTHING in HERO) and I found out that to convert one of the special abilities I had to convert the damage system. Here's what I came up with (Version 0.9): STUN is ignored, as you only get unconscious for "dramatic reasons" or if you take too much damage (but way before you die) BODY of the attacks is halved and called "flesh wounds" You get a "soak"-check to resist dramatic wounds, which is a Con-Check+4 (i.e. 15- for Joe Average) Every flesh wound you take is subtracted from the total, i.e. if joe1 is hit in the face by joe2 for 2 body (=1 flesh wound) joe1 has a roll of 14- to resist dramatic wounds. These flesh wounds add up as long as you make your roll, so if joe1 gets beaten up and already suffered 5 flesh wounds (but always made his soak) the next flesh wound (the 6th) would take a roll of 9- (15-6) to resist. If you fail the roll you take one dramatic wound plus one dramatic wound per 4 full points by which you miss the roll and ALL flesh wounds (and therefore the penalties to your soak) are deleted (they also vanish after each combat) So far it looks like a pretty close conversion. Anything I missed?
  3. I recently spent quite a bit on someone who could "drop dead" in an instant (Simulate Death 21-) If he can't die he can at least seem to be dead
  4. That would be a LARGE project... Do you have Fantasy Hero? It might help (if only for "converting" D&D and other special abilities to HERO) Another page you might find useful is: http://www.killershrike.com/FantasyHERO/FantasyHERO.htm
  5. Our current campaign has characters with 185 points +150 Disads, a good background story gives another 15 free points and after the first session you get another 10 XP to "fine tune" your character and get all the little stuff you found in the first session that you should have already gotten...
  6. The EXACT definition of the "blood drawing" power might actually be the key to your problem. Surely this power will have some limit (or at least a mechanism) that you can use as a "defense" against it.
  7. Lazarus isn't a killer but he has watched MANY people die without doing anything to help them... He WILL use this mask to try to get the people to pardon him. Actually the effect is a bit more complex than a simple area effect. Only people looking into the front of the mask will be affected, only people seeing their reflections (so vampires are safe ) and people who can't make out the reflection (because it's too dark, foggy, far, ...) won't be affected, too... All these factors would be pretty hard to discern, wouldn't they?
  8. My take on the mask was that the longer someone gazes into it the deeper the fear would strike. Hence the Cumulative. As I was wondering how to apply the advantages on my normal presence I constructed the mask not as +15 PRE but as a separate 15 PRE. And to comment... so far Lazarus would be affected by the mask, too if he ever gazes into the front. It would really take an intelligent and pseudosentient item to copy the effect, but I thought that the advantages and limitations could cover that. I based the pricings of the limited and conditional effect on the tables at page 194f. PRE-Attack only to cause fear should account for losing half of it's effectiveness and as this power only affects "killers" it is contitional (limited over half time, as not one of every two people involved would be killers but less) The No Conscious Control -1 is straight out of the description where I might activate or deactivate the power (and not even that due to Always on) but the power chooses it's own specific effect. I agree that the Damage Shield might have to be defined "better", but as the alternative (add an area effect then put limitations on it to reduce it to people just before 1-2 Inch distance at most) would be a pain to calculate I thought to define it this way...
  9. DOH! I completely forgot about Presence Attacks... And I really like them... So what are you thinking of this: Vengence of the Dead 15 PRE Cumulative *4 Max (+1), Damage Shield (+1/4, only versus people who can see their reflection in the front side of the mask), Continous (+1) , Persistent (+1/2) Active Cost: 56 Always On (-1/2), Focus OIF reflecting Mask (-1/2), Only versus people who have killed somebody or let somebody die they could have saved and are not at peace with those dead/deaths (-2), Only to cause fear (-1) No Conscious Control (-1) Real Cost: 9 Any complaints about that?
  10. My character Lazarus wants a special power for his mask. (Which would be an OIF) If someone who has killed someone (or has let someone die he could have saved) gazes into his reflection in the mask (at most 1-2 inch "reach" to clearly see the reflection) he won't just see a reflection of him but the ghosts of his "victims" attacking him in the reflection. Onl y HE sees the ghosts of his victims noone else. I thougt the dead to be just a special effect (and as nobody else sees them but the target itself I see no need to simulate this with mental powers) and thougth of the whole thing to be a NND (defend by not having killed or let die somebody or being at ease with those victims), which should be common enough to warrant a +1/2 NND but I'm not sure if I should do this as a NND EB or an END-Drain. Any other suggestions?
  11. I hadn't intended for the Chameleon to be a "big" effect, just a little quirk for my secret ID. I intend to put an "only in Secret ID" limit on the chameleon as my Hero ID is not very socially adept... Being an immortal shard of a death god and the like... OK, the secret ID is still immortal, but he's at least a social being who loves being around "normal" people with "normal" problems...
  12. The idea of getting a power/telent like that came when our heroes had a party with their neighbors (in our Secret IDs) and I found that not only did I get along with ALL neighbors but even the "women" had already planned for me to join their "knitting group", Book club and also the "girl's night out" (no, I'm neither female nor gay) and the "men" also planned for me to join their football team and other "manly" activities...
  13. I was wondering how anybody would build a "Social Chameleon", i.e. somebody who fits right into almost every group of people. As there are only PSL for combat, I was thinking about something like: 3d6 Mental Illusions Area Effect 1 hex (+1/2), Megascale (+1/2), 0 End (+1/2) 37 Active Only to seem to be likeable (-1/2), Requires a Conversation Skill Roll (-1/2), Target's mind dictates exact appearance (-1/2) Real Cost 15 Or has anybody already done something different?
  14. To warm this a bit up. My easiest take on the Gun-Kata (at least the "Whirlwind Shot") would be: Take an Area Effect on your guns with the limit 1 Turn Extra Time and you might hit everybody almost simultaneously with a sure hit chance. I got bullied into converting the clerics of Equilibrium into an elite squad for the current game I'm playing in. So if I manage to complete it I'll drop you a line. (Or has anybody else started something like that already?)
