  1. Re: Crafting System YES PLEASE!! I like this setup. Specially how inventing costs as much, if not more, than the final price of the item. So by this system, you can not really make anything that is any sort of complicated without a plan of some kind (which is either purchased, reverse engineered, or 'invented')? I like how it makes the inventor skill more useful *nods*
  2. Re: Realistic rates of fire, and Extremely high ROF weaponry ahha! now I get it! Thank you for your assistance sir!
  3. Re: Science, Technology and Crafting -- How do you handle it? Hahaha he does have the connections to do that, but feels its cheaper to build itself since we are currently using the rules that the cost to craft something is 1/2 its MSRP cost as you would find in a normal store (which we have a list of values and multipliers for the cost of items based on its AP cost). I don't necessarily want to limit he ability to craft, I just feel that it is too easy and cheap at the moment, and with the lack of anything outside the inventor skill to describe building things, I'm having a hard time coming up with something that feels balanced. Maybe putting an AP limit on what he can craft with his portable lab, that increases in cap as he gets better resources. I love your description of "Sure, anybody with half a brain and a little knowledge (or a good instruction book) can assemble a computer from parts. But only Intel (and their peers) can design and fabricate the integrated chips that make them work". I feel that fits VERY well
  4. Re: Realistic rates of fire, and Extremely high ROF weaponry Ahh yes, making more sense now! So the what is the advantage of using suppressive fire with an autofire 15 weapon over an autofire 5 one? And say that an opponent stops in one of the hexes covered by suppression fire, since he only can get hit for each step he makes would I be correct in assuming that he can stand in the line of fire and not take hits? And yes I agree, the constant fire would be better I definitely like the idea of building higher ROF weapons with PSL's to offset the penalties of suppressive fire. But even so, you can not hit a person more than once for getting 2 or more higher to hit as with normal autofire right?
  5. How would you build a weapon that's autofire capabilities scaled with the users SPD? For example, a MP5 has an average ROF of about 800 rounds per minute. This would mean a maximum of 200 shots fired in one full turn (17-18 shots per second). So a character with a SPD of 4 would need autofire 50 in order to be able to fire 200 rounds per turn, but a character with a SPD of 5 would need autofire 40. Regardless that the fact that the autofire would be absolutely ludicrous, what would the AP cost of such a weapon be and how would it be built? On that topic of ridiculous autofire numbers, how would you build an extremely high rate of fire weapon? It seems as though any weapon with an autofire above 5 just seems almost useless, as you'll more than likely never roll high enough to hit with any more shots than that. After a certain amount of round per second, would you then just up the damage, or give it other bonuses such as AOE one hex or PSL's for overcoming the penalties for autofire and suppressive fire? By comparison, an autofire 5 weapon in HERO only has a ROF of 80 with a SPD 4 character (which is chump in today's technology for automatic weaponry), not to mention what the ROF capabilities would be in the future!!? How would you approach this situation? p.s. - a minigun would need an autofire of insanity to accommodate the 100 rounds per second the top of the line ones the military has.
  6. How do you handle the creation of technological devices in your games? I'm running a Star HERO game with very heavy SR influences, and I have a player who built their character around being a weapons expert and creator. The issue we're running into the is the lack of item creation rules outside the inventor skill, which he says is only to make new items and not to copy an existing one. So how do you guys handle the making of weapons, armor, and other technological marvels? I don't want the players lack of money to always be able to be worked around easily and for a fraction of the cost and the expense of downtime... which is commonplace in traveling large distances in space . An easy way to limit it is to use the inventor rules for all creations, although my player argues that it is only for the creating of brand-new never before seen items, and not when he tries to recreate the existing plasma pistol the store down the road sells. What are some of your experiences and solutions to this sort of issue? Thanks!!
  7. I'm a little confused on the process of making new "items" with the inventor skill. One of my players swears that its only used when you make non-existing items instead of any item. Can someone please clarify if it should be used to make everything ala a crafting skill of sorts, or only items that don't already exist. Thank you!!
  8. Re: Help with power? Don't know system well enough... thanks alot for the help guys!
  9. Ok... I am supposed to be coming up with some character concepts for a Champions game here soon, and I have an idea of a power or two I wnat but don't know how to make them. I am sure that these powers have been radically discussed in the past, so if they are still on the Message Boards somewhere that I missed you can refer me there... Thanks! 1. Reality alteration - Something along the lines of the Scarlet Witch. I just got done reading the House of M, and have always been a fan of "Reality Warping" powers. I just really do not know how to pull it off using the HERO system. 2. Gambit powers - That or something like it... even some of his "other" powers from the Gambit line comic book would be cool. As far as I know from looking at the HERO book there is no way to have a power get "better" or "weaker" the more you use it, short of leveling up. Like the Scarlet Witch ana the more she uses it the more she loses control. Or every time I do "this," "this" gets weaker/better/control loosens/ or a charges for a power. I can only use this power "blank" many times before it's exausted all its force. Thanks in advance for all the help. I just have no idea how the HERO system works. Much Appreciated
