  1. I just looked through my new Fantasy Hero PDF and I'm surprised and excited by the number of templates for quick character design - something like 15 customizable racial and modification (like aquatic or lycanthrope) templates, several cultural templates, and 10 professional templates mirroring common classes. Most fans of traditional systems should be able to make characters they're comfortable with in short order.
  2. Re: Understand all technology? Yeah, it's understand AND use all technology, so the VPP with the touch limitation makes sense. Thanks! Matt
  3. Hey, all: One of my players wants to have a character who can fully understand how to use any technology (so far, he's only really experienced it with musical instruments in school) as soon as he touches it. How the heck would you model this? Technology-relevant skills bought as powers? I'm stumped and any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks, Matt
  4. Re: My First Power; Feedback Appreciated Hahahahaha! What are the chances? BTW - Your yo-yo rocks! "The Nutcracker" for your EB is a riot! ahnen - The duration for Entangle is listed as Instant in Sidekick. Like other attack powers, I guess it happens in an instant, but the effects last. prestidigitator and ahnen - there's nothing about putting advantages and limitations on the reserve in Sidekick, but the concept does make sense - looks like that will be part of my slow upgrade to the full book. Thanks, Matt
  5. Re: My First Power; Feedback Appreciated I just flipped open the book and slapped my forehead when I realized that all of the powers should have a -1/2 continuous Gestures limitation applied...
  6. I'm finally taking the plunge into Hero as my game of choice. If I'm going to learn the system, I'm going to have to learn to design powers. Here's my first attempt. Please note that it was designed with Sidekick since the Big Book of Hero scares me. I remember hearing that yo-yos were originally weapons, so I was curious what could be done with one. It could only be done one trick at time, so it sounded like a Multipower to me. Comments about power level and such are appreciated, since I'm not sure what would be over- or under-powered for a low- to average-level supers game until I get some more experience with the system... Oh, any yo-yo trick names would help too! 60 Magic Yo-Yo: Multipower, 60-point reserve 3 Trip and Tangle Effect: Entangle 6d6, 6 DEF Target: One Character Duration: Instant Range: STR Based END: 6 Entangle 6d6, 6 DEF (60 Active Points); OAF (-1), Range based on STR (-1/4), (Real Cost 27) 3 Shield Effect: Force Wall 10 PD/10 ED Target: Varies Duration: Constant Range: STR Based END: 6 Force Wall (10 PD/10 ED, up to 5" long and 2" tall) (60 Active Points); OAF (-1), Range based on STR (-1/4), (Real Cost 27) 1 Around the World Effect: Swinging 12" Duration: Constant Range: Self-Only END: 1 Swinging 12" (12 Active Points); OAF (Yo-Yo) -1 3 Yo-Yo Strike! Effect: Energy Blast 12d6 against PD Duration: Instant Range: STR Based END: 6 Energy Blast 12d6 (against PD) (60 Active Points); OAF (-1), Range based on STR (-1/4), (Real Cost 27) Total Cost: 70 Thanks, Matt
  7. Re: Please Critique My First Character D'oh! Thanks - updated, along with touching up his disads.
  8. Re: Please Critique My First Character OK, here's my next attempt... Instead of just spending points on his raw characteristics, I boosted his combat ability through Combat Luck and buying up some PD and SPD. I opted against the code to kill, since I'm not sure that's a concern in a show like Hercules. 13 STR 15 DEX 11 CON 11 BODY 13 INT 10 EGO 12 PRE 12 COM 10 PD (7 pts) 3 rPD 3 ED (1 pt) 3 rED 4 SPD (15 pts) 5 REC 22 END 24 STUN Ambidexterity Combat Luck Acrobatics 13-, Climbing 12-, CSL +1 HTH or Ranged OCV or DVC, Concealment 12-, MA - Defensive Strike, MA - Leg Sweep, MA - Escape, MA - Martial Strike, MA - Martial Dodge, MA - Martial Kick, PS - Old Hunting Tricks (INT-based) 12-, Riding 12-, Shadowing 12-, Stealth 12-, Streetwise 12-, Survival 13-, Tracking 13-, WF - Common Missile Weapons, WF - Common Melee Weapons Hot-Headed (Very Common, Moderate) Ego+5 Hunted - Floating Warlord (More Powerful, Limited Geo, NCI, Kill) 8- DNPC - Flaoting Friend/Girl/Etc (Normal powered) 14- Watched - Greek Pantheon (More Powerful, NC!, Watching only) 8- Thanks for all the help - Hero has easily handled everything I wanted to do with this character! Soon, I will be diving into Powers!
  9. Re: Please Critique My First Character I now have the full rules, which means I now have access to the Combat Luck talent. Go, me! Seriously, I get your points about the Disads. I haven't watched many episodes, but Iolus doesn't seem to have too many bad points other than being hotheaded. I'll ditch the "always help" - it's what he should be doing any way. I will stick with the "hot-headed" disad, since it really seems to get him into trouble. I will also keep the martial arts, since Iolus specifically mentioned studying out East early on in the series. All the numbers were based on character conception, rather than min-maxing, and it seems like you're all on that wavelength. He'll start low-powered, but I've never minded characters working for advancement.
  10. Re: Please Critique My First Character Cool - thanks for the advice, everyone! While the numbers looked good on paper, I needed the benefit of experience to see how those numbers actually play out. I'll do some tinkering with him tonight or tomorrow - lower the DEF, raise his STR, raise his INT (which will help with his hunting-style skills), raise his PD, buy some Combat Luck, fix his CLs, maybe buy him another WF (he has one in common missile weapons, buy he could probably use one more for melee weapons), and get him some equipment. Thanks! Matt
  11. Hey, all- After years of looking at the Hero system, I've finally decided to take the plunge. My copy of the the revised fifth edition book shows up tomorrow, so I've been working with Sidekick to get a feel for the system. For me, the best way to learn a new system is by creating every character I can think of. Because of the mass of information involved with powers, my first character is straight-up Heroic. I happened to be watching a first season episode of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and decided to stat up an Iolus-style character - a scrappy hot-head who can take a beating and always does right in the end. I'm curious how the characterstic values I've chosen go towards that character conception... If anyone wouldn't mind helping out a 34-year-old Hero virgin here, any advice would be great: 12 STR 20 DEX 11 CON 11 BODY 10 INT 10 EGO 12 PRE 12 COM 5 PD (yes, I bought up 3 levels here) 2 ED 3 SPD 4 REC 22 END 33 STUN Ambidexterity Acrobatics 13-, Climbing 13-, CSL +1 OCV or DVC all HTH Combat attacks, CSL +1 OCV or DVC all Ranged Combat attacks, Concealment 11-, MA - Defensive Strike, MA - Leg Sweep, MA - Escape, MA - Martial Strike, MA - Martial Dodge, MA - Martial Kick, PS - Old Hunting Tricks 16-, Riding 13-, Shadowing 11-, Stealth 13-, Streetwise 11-, Survival 11-, Tracking 16-, WF - Common Missile Weapons Code vs. Killing (Common, Total), Always tries to do what's right (Very Common, Moderate), Hot-Headed (Very Common, Moderate) Thanks! Matt
