Gregory Giles was a member of the HCPD, originally trained in forensics he transferred to the Counterterrorism Bureau. During a raid on a terrorist safehouse, a terrorist triggered an explosive, Gregory was injured and thrown clear. (In actuality his latent time powers manifested and stopped time, initially confused by everything suddenly stopping, he crawled to safety before time restarted). Due to his injuries he lost the use of his legs. Released from hospital and invalided out of the department, he decided to continue pursuing terrorists and other criminals in his own time. His disability limits what he can do, so he focuses on assisting other vigilantes and crimefighters however he can. Being limited mainly to a supporting role doesn't sit well with him, and he devotes much of his spare time to devising or discovering a way to walk again.
  2. Np, I just thought it was another acronym that I hadn't discovered yet True, but when we were creating his character we had trouble finding a decent portrait to use and ended up settling on one from Grand Theft Auto, the portrait has an unpowered wheelchair, so we went with that. However their is nothing stopping the character upgrading his chair or even building himself a powered exoskeleton at some time in the future.
  3. Ok, sorry Pinecone, I am seriously new at this game. What does dvc stand for?
  4. We originally had his running, swimming and leaping reduced to zero. His SPD is 2, (these guys pretty much ignored their characteristics, concentrating on skills, powers and the rest). If we give him swim 1, then he can do it after a fashion, but it isn't very effective without legs. Crawling, done 2 Can Crawl: Running +4m (4m/7m total) (4 Active Points); Gestures, Requires Gestures throughout (Requires both hands; -1), Concentration, Must Concentrate throughout use of Constant Power (1/2 DCV; -1/2), Increased Endurance Cost (x2 END; -1/2), no Noncombat movement (-1/4) 1 Wheelchair, he was happy with unpowered, for now. The player chose a skill set and complications which drive the character to and enable him to research and design a means to get himself back on his feet. So I expect this wheelchair will to be modified, if not made redundant, during the game by the character. Also he bought it with CP, so that if it gets lost or damaged he can readily get a replacement and/or have it repaired. 2 Wheelchair: Running +3m (4m/7m total), Double Gravity Effects, x8 Noncombat, Rapid Noncombat Movement (+1/4) (16 Active Points); OAF Bulky Durable (-1 1/2), Gestures, Requires Gestures throughout (Requires both hands; -1), Only On Appropriate Terrain (-1) Notes: Low move, but high noncombat multiplier because using it at any speed should constitute "noncombat movement" (i.e. hard to effectively attack or defend.) Bulky, because it is, and someone in wheelchair shouldn't get full DCV. Only on appropriate terrain because plenty of places it can't go. "Double Gravity Effects" is a zero point Custom Adder to reflect that it's hard going uphill but accelerates quickly going down. 3 I have crawling added to the primary characteristic and wheelchair added to the secondary characteristic, and both are added to the base characteristic, am I doing this right? The character started with the suggested resource points from DC, so he currently has 10 resource points for bases/vehicles, but I think he wants to use them to contribute to the base design and construction (he wants to add a scientific research lab to the base, oh, and wheelchair access, of course) Thanks for the input Lucius
  5. Question: Should the different levels of degrees, i.e. Diploma, Bachelors, Masters, Doctorate etc., be represented by differing levels of skill? Using the Australian Qualifications Framework as an example, yields a 10 level scheme as follows: Qualification Skill level Time To Acquire Qualification Title Level 1 0 weeks Certificate I Level 2 1 weeks Certificate II Level 3 2 6 mths Certificate III Level 4 3 1 year Certificate IV Level 5 4 1 to 2 years Diploma Level 6 5 1.5 to 2 years Associate Diploma or Advanced Diploma Level 7 6 3 to 4 years Bachelor's Degree Level 8 7 1 to 2 years Graduate Diploma 6 mths to 1 yr Graduate Certificate 1 year Bachelor's Honours Degree Level 9 8 3 to 4 years Master's Degree (Extended) 1 to 2 years Master's Degree (Course work) 1 to 2 years Master's Degree (Research) Level 10 9 3 to 4 years Doctoral Degree

  9. Ok heres the list of study areas for the Diploma of Health Sciences Food Science and Technology, Health Promotion, Health Sciences, Human Biology Preclinical, Laboratory Medicine, Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology, Nursing, Nutrition, Psychology and as skills in game, less granular than the first effort and probably costing a bit less as well Diploma of Health Sciences 2 1) SS: Food Science and Technology 11- 2 2) SS: Human Biology 11- 2 3) SS: Laboratory Medicine 11- 2 4) SS: Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology 11- 2 5) SS: Psychology 11- 2 6) PS: Choose one Health Administration Officer, Research Officer, Health Promotion Officer, Project Officer, Insurance Officer 11- 2 8) KS: Health Sciences and Nutrition 11- 14 Total Points I'm not sure yet if this degree is offered as a higher degree, but if it was I'd probably have each higher degree increase the skill level by 1. I'm not advocating that players must stick by this, however it gives them a framework to use when creating characters that have some sort of tertiary education. I'm not sure which should be KS, PS and/or SS this is my best guess. Also updated the prefab to match this, will continue to work on it in my limited spare time. Comments please Tertiary Education.hdp
  10. We reduced his run, swim and leap to zero, (but I think this is a bit much, any advice on actual values to keep?). As for the wheelchair we built as best we could figure it, and would appreciate suggestions and improvements. 2 Wheelchair: Running +12m (12m total), x4 Noncombat, Rapid Noncombat Movement (+1/4) (21 Active Points); OIF Arrangement Durable Expendable (Difficult to obtain new Focus; -1), Gestures, Requires Gestures throughout (Requires both hands; -1), Only On Appropriate Terrain (-1/2), Restrainable (-1/2) 5 We went with this image from one of the grand theft auto games, so it#s unpowered.
  11. Session Write Up Ok, the team was joined by a new member this fortnight, ex-cop Gregory Giles. Recently evicted from his apartment for continuously complaining about the lack of wheelchair access, the lease running out made for a convenient excuse. His friend Chet Manly invited him to stay at the warehouse with him and the others. He took a maxi taxi to the warehouse but before the cabbie could lower the ramp. Chet jumped in and told the cabbie to follow those vans. Four vans with the Herodome logo on the side had just left a warehouse 100m down the road. Chet had seen a bunch of men getting into the vans with boxes, but one of them had an AK assault rifle. Gregory spotted and recognised a known Al Qaeda terrorist in the front seat of the lead van as it drove past. Chet quickly phoned Natsu and told him to get after them as well, so Natsu grabbed Lance and his sword and the two jumped on his Bike and took off in pursuit, Lance clinging to Natsu like a baby monkey to his mother, (these iron horses moved a lot faster than the real thing). Greg called one of his contacts on the force, Faith and filled her in, she told him that he had to stop the vans before they reached the Herodome, she was sending police backup, but they were several minutes away. Chet got the cabbie to overtake the vans then yanked the wheel, slewing the taxi around in front of the vans and bringing them to a halt. The cabbie broke Olympic records as he made his escape on foot. As terrorists began to pile out of the vans, Chet launched himself at the nearest, who was getting out of the passenger side of the lead van, he slammed into the door trying to pin the terrorist between it and the van, however the terrorist skipped backwards out of the way and leveled his AK at Chet, Chet struck with his palm, hitting the barrel of the rifle and driving it upwards until it connected with the terrorists face, knocking him out instantly. Natsu and Lance on the Bike were halfway past the vans when they pulled up and the terrorists began piling out. Natsu tried to swerve in between the second and third vans but ended up sliding the bike down the side of the second van. Lance tried to simply step off the back of the bike but lost his balance and skidded along the pavement good thing he was wearing a lot of old style and rather thick sturdy clothing. Natsu reacted by launching himself off the bikes foot pegs and clearing the van door just as the bike ploughed into it narrowly, missing the terrorist getting out, who had thrown himself towards the curb to avoid it. Natsu's leap and relative speed carried him to the roof of the first van which he promptly slid off of, managing to land on his feet in front of it. Greg activated the lift/ramp combo to get his wheelchair out of the back of the maxi-cab, and tried to keep an eye on what was happening. Bystanders, mostly Herodome patrons, on their way to the game, fled at the sight of armed men, especially armed men yelling in arabic. The driver of the lead van foolishly reached through the window of the open van door to aim his SMG at Gregory and Natsu promptly chopped it off with his sword. Lance rolled towards a parked SUV to avoid a burst of fire from one terrorist and was forced to roll under the SUV to avoid another from a different direction. Natsu charged down one side of the lead van, while Chet advanced down the other. Two terrorists barrelled around the back of the van to face Natsu, and whether it was the blood drenched sword wielding maniac in front of them that threw their aim off or just sheer ineptitude, their bursts missed him and riddled the maxi-cab scaring the daylights out of Gregory (still waiting for the ramp to drop). Chet had another come around his side of the van and he tried to trip him, but the guy backpedalled as fast avoiding the attempt. Natsu brought his sword up into the first terrorists arm, slashing it to the bone and brought it back around neatly beheading the second terrorist. While Chet reached back palms flat on the ground and pushed himself upwards with all his strength (slightly more than human) leading with both feet into the terrorists belly, he did it with such force that the guy pretty much folded in half around Chet's feet and flew backwards a few metres to land on the other side of the vans almost at Natsu's feet. At this point Lance shot one of the legs he could see from under the SUV, the lst three vans began to back up and Gregory rolled himself out of the maxi-cab, seeing the vans begin to move, he froze time, and hurriedly wheeled himself over to each van, he had to haul himself up at each window but was able to pull the keys from all three vans and additionally take an SMG from one of the guys in the last van, he then sat calmly in his wheelchair facing the four terrorist in the back of the van as he started time again, (yes, I forgot about the momentum of the reversing vans). As time restarted Natsu skewered the driver of the second van, Chet raced to it's back door, Lance rolled back out from under the SUV and Gregory hosed the interior of the last van with lead, killing or wounding everyone inside, much to their surprise. The terrorists in the third van realised they were losing, and their vehicle somehow been disabled, so they hunkered down around it spraying fire randomly into the street, while one of their number activated the bomb inside. Their fanatical screaming of Allahu Akbar alerted the team to their impending doom, Chet said "Oh $&@%" and ran and dived behind a parked car further down the street, as did Natsu. Lance didn't know what it meant but he saw the others diving for cover and dived behind the SUV. Gregory however used the last of his endurance to stop time and propel himself away, the slight incline in the street assisted him in reaching a safe distance before time restarted. The terrorists triggered the bomb, the explosion was big enough to start a chain reaction as each vans bomb exploded one after the other. The police and emergency services arrived a few minutes later as the team was limping down the street heading home. They were taken into custody, questioned and held for 24 hours until Gregory's Contact Faith, got them released, citing the fact that they had undoubtedly saved a great many lives and despite the property damage caused, no one but the terrorists had been killed, although some civilians were injured they had only sustained minor injuries. There were some questions regarding Lance's lack of identification and their possession of a sword, antique revolver, knife and SMG, all were confiscated, at least for a short time. Also the four of them were processed, and therefore now have their fingerprints and photographs in the system, this could prove bad for those who are being hunted.
  12. I have a new player, he wanted to have Time Stop powers, I agreed but mentioned the warning about unbalancing the game, so he decided the character would also be a paraplegic, which would limit what he can do while time is stopped. Now I have to build a Wheelchair.
  13. I hadn't thought of that, thanks. I've read something in the rules along these lines, I might work try and work with both .
  14. I stand corrected, he did buy it with points, and he does get to keep it. I allow equipment bought as powers and/or with resource points.
  15. Ok thanks, I have Widows and Orphans and New Bedlam, just haven't read them yet.
  16. The Harbinger of Justice has CK: Fell's Point 11-, does anyone know where this is located? I can't find it on the city or suburban map. Is it an off map location from the original campaign?
  17. Ok that didn't print the way I wanted it. Here's the prefab. Fixed the first post and also looked at career options for after the diploma (PS's) 2 PS: Health Administration Officer 11- 2 PS: Research Officer 11- 2 PS: Health Promotion Officer 11- 2 PS: Project Officer 11- 2 PS: Insurance Officer 11- What these occupations actually do I have no idea Tertiary Education.hdp
  18. I was looking at Tertiary Education and have come up with the beginnings of a prefab for HD, I picked the first one in the list Diploma of Health Sciences and then went to the weblink for the course details. Using the course details I came up with this: Stage 1 is for a year 11 school leaver and is meant to bring them up to speed for Stage 2 which is aimed at someone who has completed secondary school (each stage takes 1 year of study time). In theory someone who has completed secondary school and had planned to do this type of diploma course would already have the stage 1 skills. Which gets me to thinking: what skills does secondary school give a character. Secondary school should provide the everyman skill set correct? SKILLS Cost Name Diploma of Health Sciences (Stage 1) 3 1) KS: The Academic World 11- 3 2) Academic Communication Skills : Oratory 11- 2 3) PS: Academic Research and Writing 11- 3 4) Information Media Technologies : Systems Operation 11- 3 5) Business Studies : Bureaucratics 11- 2 6) SS: Chemistry 11- 2 7) Human Body : SS: Anatomy and Physiology 11- 2 8) Mathematics 1 : SS: Mathematics 11- 20 Skills Cost Diploma of Health Sciences (Stage 2) 5 1) Academic Communication Skills : Oratory 12- 3 2) PS: Academic Research and Writing 12- 2 3) KS: Health Practice and Behaviour 11- 2 4) Indigenous Culture and Health : CuK: Aboriginal Culture 11- 2 5) Biomedical Science : SS: Microbiology 11- 2 6) Biomedical Science : SS: Immunology 11- 2 7) Biomedical Science : SS: Histopathology 11- 2 8) Biomedical Science : SS: Haemotology 11- 2 9) Biomedical Science : SS: Biochemistry 11- 2 10) Biomedical Science : SS: Molecular Genetics 11- 2 11) Integrated Systems : SS: Anatomy and Physiology 11- 2 12) SS: Biological Chemistry 11- 3 13) SS: Chemistry 12- 31 Skills Cost 51 Total Skills Cost What do you guys think?

    Gunsmoke

    Version 1.2

    81 downloads

Gunsmoke is one of the main characters in my current campaign "Something Wicked This Way Will Come" Gunsmoke was a budding Bushranger in 19th century in the Brisbane area, while escaping from the police he and his companions rode straight through an aboriginal cemetery, through some sort of portal and into the Dreamtime. Gunsmoke and his companions had many adventures together within the dreamtime, unfortunately one of his companions was a Vampyri, who slowly and secretly killed off the group. Gunsmoke, by now out of ammunition, fled when he discovered the Vampyri. Wandering into an Aboriginal Encampment half starved and dehydrated, he was nursed back to health and taught how to survive in the wild. Later, his tale of the Vampyri, (known as a Talamaur to the Aboriginals) encouraged the Elders to conduct a special ritual to empower Gunsmoke with the means to hunt and defeat the Talamaur. Afterwards Gunsmoke was somewhat resistant to injury, he even healed faster, he didn't need to sleep as long, nor did he need to eat as often, could see (detect) magic, mystical objects and creatures and his gun now fired bullets without having to be loaded. He recently leaped through another portal pursued by a giant snake, ending up in New Brisbane in the year 2015.
  22. To be honest I don't have a specific reason, it just popped into my head and it seemed somewhat limiting, but I've been reading the rules a bit more and realise that it isn't limiting at all. While Gunsmoke may not be able to improve the gun itself without mystical means, he can definitely improve his abilities with it, CSL's, superskills, and other powers. Basically I see your point and will not be removing his "John Wayne gun". I was not actually going to change the character, I was going to change a piece of equipment he possessed. As it turns out he may need it anyway. We needed something to pursue him through the dreamtime, and given the mystical nature of his powers, I searched for a mystical pursuer. The Vampyri from Urban Fantasy seemed appropriate and oddly enough I discovered an Aboriginal Vampire the "Talamaur" not an exact match but close enough that the Talamaur could be an interpretation of the Vampyri. Gunsmoke's background has him pursued by one of his own gang members who was a Vampyri ("Six Finger Larry" had six fingers on one hand). Gunsmoke's powers and ritual scarring were the result of a ceremony he underwent, while sheltering with an Aboriginal Clan in the dreamtime, the purpose of which was to prepare him to face the Talamaur. I'll be honest, I have largely written or re-written the character's backgrounds and complications. Each change is submitted to the players for their approval. I know the players should do this with minimal input from the GM, but these players usually do not focus much on background and motivation. (Less Role-playing and more Roll-playing). They are not used to thinking of a character concept first, then designing that character to fit the concept. They are used to picking a class and then trying to come up with a rough concept. (They really struggled with this) Of the group Maverick's player usually role plays, Shinigami's player usually meta-games, the rest usually roll play. My input into their characters is geared towards encouraging them to roleplay more and also serve as examples of how to come up with their character concept. I hope to reduce my input as they become more familiar with character conceptualisation and character design.
  23. I'm with Spence, I'm using Hudson city renamed New Brisbane, set in a Wold Newton Universe so, I've Dark Champions, DC:TAS, Champions, DC and Marvel and will shamelessly borrow anything.
