  1. I recently played MHI with a group of RPG friends, and they loved it! It was a definite hit.

One friend made his character a tribute to Ash from the Evil Dead movies, and we had to wing the stats for a chainsaw.  We looked online and there were at least 3 different stats on forums for a chainsaw.  Is there an 'official" one somewhere?  If not which set of stats would you recommend?

Thanks for all the help you all have been while I get used to a new system.  I love the forums here.

  2. Last month I asked a lot of questions to figure out combat with MHI and the Hero system in general.  Thank you so much for your advice and help.

So after running my first adventure I have to say I kind of like the system.  But it also raised some more questions.

One in particular is that it seemed like the players stunned the monsters easily, but could not touch their body.  They were using guns with multi-fire (five shots), by the time they shot 5 times in one phase and accounted for the extra stun damage from hit locations, the poor wererat had taken 40-50 more points of stun damage even after accounting for PD.  So they might have taken a point or two of body, but had exceeded their stun by double (or more in some cases).  So definitely unconscious, but not dead, then they just cut of the head and were done.  It was a little anticlimactic.

Did we do it right.  I mean the poor wererat didn't last more than 2 phases.

  3. Sorry one more for you all.  with martial art maneuvers, when it says a damage plus STR does that mean you add their HTH damage from STR to the weapon damage?  For example: say a character has a 2d6 in HTH and uses a maneuver or melee weapon that says STR + 1d6, they would roll a 3d6 to determine damage right?

Just want to be sure and get this right.

  4. Thanks. That helps a lot. I just have the MHI books and there is not a lot of sample combat.

How would I to like a shooting competing between player. Say like shooting at a target that is 100 meters away and is the size of a soda can. I know it would be -8 for the size and -8 for distance. I total of -16 but what do I add it to to see if the characters can hit it.

  5. I love this topic.  Thanks for all the comments.

I just was introduced to the hero System through the Monster Hunter International books.  I am not a RPG novice and have created characters, played in, and GMed adventures in probably 10 diffrent systems.

I have character creation just about figured out and want ed to try to run through a combat sene, just to see how it worked.  My teenage boys were my willing test subects - but I could not figure it out and we all became frusterated.

There is a lot I like about the system so far, I just can't wrap my head around the combat.

So this helps a lot thank you all!

@bluesguy: Where can I find a copy of the combat sheet you taled about in your original post ?  I think that would help me a lot.  I am looking for a simplified bare bones version.

    Thanks.

  6. So here is my introduction:

    • How did you come up with your 'handle' (forum name)? I have been a Star Wars fan since 1977, and I love the Dresden Files books by Jim Butcher.  SO... it is just a combonation of my 3 favorite things.
    • What was the first tabletop RPG you played? Oh WOW.  I remember the old d6 Star Wars by West End Games, Palladium's Robotech, and my friends FASA Star Trek game trough high school in the 80's.  After that it was 2nd AD&D in the early 90's.
    • What was the first tabletop RPG you GMed?  West End Games Star Wars
    • What are you currently playing/GMing?  Trying to figure out Monster Hunter International by Hero System right now.
  7. Hi all.  I recently found the MHI Books and loved them.  Then I found the game and was excited.

I have never used or played the Hero System before, but I am not new to RPG - I started with 2nd edition D&D and played all the diffrent editions since then.  I have played (or ran) adventures in Fate, GURPS (a long time ago), the old FASA Star Trek, and several others I cannot remember right now.  That being said I started with character Generation and figured that out easily enough and there is a lot about the system I am liking, BUT I cannot figure out how to run combat in the system.

Can some one explain it to me or point me in the direction of a post I could look at to understand it better?  I used my family as test guinea pigs last night and my boys got rally frusterated as did I.  I just could not wrap my head around it.

    Please help!
