  1. Re: Greatest Western Movies of all Time I'm surprised no-one mentioned "Lightning Jack" (or was it "Lightning Jack McQueen?) A fun departure from the mainstream. Others, in rough order: Unforgiven The Quick and the Dead ack, my brain is fried. Gotta go. Be back when I remember the rst. Here we go: Bruce Cassady and the Sundance Kid For a Fistfull of Dollars The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly That Zorro movie with Antonio Banderas (The Mask of Zorro) sticks in my mind too, though it only qualifies as a 'Western' by taking place in California around 1850(?) or so. Oddly, the Magnificent Seven doesn't stick in my mind as much as these.
  2. Re: No Ordinary Quiz "Your Super Power Is Super Speed, Like Stephanie Powell" Eerily, this is one of my picks before taking the quiz. Others being duplication, super-smarts, and martial arts.
  3. Re: Original Characters Who's Chloe O'Brien?
  4. Re: Title Tag Returns! Forgot my ideas. :/ 1) Blue Box Pain, Red Box Death, Black Box Doom 2) Attack of the Sequels! 3) The Awesome Power of Stupidity.
  5. Re: The Classic Justice League starting members on 350 points . Hmm. Thanks. I always imagined that Iron Man would clock in right about a 75 point multipower for his blasts: 10d6 Autofire EB for the Pulse Cannons (IIrc), 10d6 EB for the regular Repulsors, 15d6 EB for the full-out blast that does Knockback to him, etc. Obviously, I'd have to bring it back to Defender-levels.
  6. Re: Title Tag Returns! You wouldn't like me when I'm happy Normally the immortal Dragonlord Palaskar travels the world seeking answers -- but also worthy opponents. Woe be he who challenges this ordinary warrior! In combat, Palaskar enters mystic awareness, finding serenity in battle. For generations he was the best in the world. Except for one. Now...if he could only find that warrior who beat him....
  7. Re: The Classic Justice League starting members on 350 points Awesome! I never believed that these characters could be done with any sort of faithfulness to the material on 350 points. Repped! Can you do the JLA-level Marvel characters (Avengers, some of the Avengers...etc.) I've tried to write-up Pheonix (Jean grey version) but failed. Of course, this in the days before Magascale. I'd like to see Doc Strange and Iron Man if nothing else -- they're some of my favorite characters for reasons I don't really grasp.
  8. Re: Weird Weapons for your Games I've seen a writeup for an Ugly Stick: 4d6, OAF.
  9. Re: "Crowning Moment of Cool?" When I click on the Londo Mollari link on teh Earth-Minbari war, I get the Season 5 Emperor talking about Centauri, not the one that goes kind of like this: When they ran out of ships, they fought with tanks. WHen they ran out of tanks they fought with guns. When they ran out of guns, they fought with stick and stones. When they ran out of stick and stones, they fought with bare hands. They. Were. MAGNIFICENT (SP?)
  10. Re: Avatars: The -other- Patriots Well, I'm kinda surprised that these virtues were left out: humilty courage, truth, love honor, sacrifice, justice spirituality they're from Ultima's .... wait for it.... The Avatar series of Ultima games On a more series, I think these virtues could be reworked into something that doesn't steal from RIchard Garriot.
  11. Re: Beating Dr. Destroyer...how do (or did) you do it? lemming wrote: NND plus penetrating, not legal. I did not know that. D'oh! I didn't think of these either. (though, to be fair, I'm using my Hero-fu from 5th ed.) Erase this method from the "defeating Dr. Destroyer thread."
  12. Re: Beating Dr. Destroyer...how do (or did) you do it? Then there's this one: Hi There Cthulhu!: Images: Images to Elder Gods, Megascale, Difficult to Dispel (several times, or what it takes to counter Doc's VPP) Persistent. Doc may able to defeat Takofanes, but let's face it, he going to have a problem when say, Cthluhu, Dagon, etc. bother him om a regular basis.
  13. Re: Beating Dr. Destroyer...how do (or did) you do it? Well, there's always: Oh, God, the Stench!: NND vs air freshening (or air air, or water -- something Doc doesn't have). That Doesn't Help at All!/Matter Eater Stench: NND does Body. You can only play the same trick with taste or some equally rare sense. I'm not sure if this would be affected with Doc's life support (He has complete. right?) -- but if that happens, you can just make the NND penetrating x2, x3, whatever. Also, you can make it long-lasting...or God help us, Autofire.
  14. Re: Beating Dr. Destroyer...how do (or did) you do it? Well, there's always this: Please Mommy, Don't Hurt Me!: PRE Drain or Transfer, w/ penetrating (x2 if necessary), long-lasting perhaps. I'd never allow this, because it totally breaks Dr. Destroyer's concept of being the most bad-ass villain of the modern age. I'd say he has a Dispel (or the like) in one of his bases, frex. He just has to work up the courage to use it. That and the PC stupid enough to do will create of TPK (or worse, see below) of epic proportions. Here' the list I drew up, in increasing level of nastiiness: 1) Death From Above!:Orbital laser 2) BOOM!: Multi-megaton nuke 3) Human Extinction Attack!: Kill 90% of humanity (like in The Island of Doctor Destroyer module) 4) Dimensional Portal/Really Big Hyperspace Sign: Summon Azozoth (sp?)/Galactus-analogue or the like 5) The Cable Option: Go back in time, clone the offending character, switch the babies of the playing character PC is the clone, train and modifier the real character is a drooling, deformed "attack dog" who obeys all the Doctor's whims and attacks the PCs on a regular basis. The "attack dog" will, of course, be really hard to kill, but easly to splatter so the Doctor can beat him. Again and again and again. Actually, #5 seems interesting, despite being like several Iron Age stories. (Which was not intentional, really. Except for Cable.)
  15. Re: Worst Hero Names (of your campaigns) Still funny when I read it the second time. I gave you rep (last post), of course.
  16. Re: Beating Dr. Destroyer...how do (or did) you do it? Forgot about the role-playing solutions... there goes my plan to get help from Professor Preserver (sp)? from the "good but under siege dimension." (Really, there is such a character in the "Dimesional Champions" 4th ed. setting or whatever it was called. He's never been statted (sp?) because he so damn insecure about the world going to pot, and he being the reason why. Also, IIRC, he was a brain in a vat. STill having a NPC that smart is helpful to any team of heroes.)
  17. Re: Beating Dr. Destroyer...how do (or did) you do it? Here are my solutions to Dr. D: 'The Power of stupidity": Int Drain, Penetrating (x2 of necessary, long lasting. Let's face it, the biggest threat from the good doctor is not his powers, but his mind. "Sonic Resonance Disruption": Suppress/Drain Damage Reduction (or whatever was done to Takofanes (sp?) in the Dr. Destroyer vs. Takofanes thread.) "Drop the Hammer": massive player attacks, preferably co-ordinated. "Spatial Manipulation": Telescopic Vision plus Flight Usable Against Others, Lots of Megascale. "I aim the good Doctor at Pluto...and fire." This also can be done by sending the Doctor into the supermassive black hole in the center of the galaxy. You can also do a Megascale Teleport UAO to send the Doctor to the same black hole. "Hey Takofanes!": Get Takofanes (or whatever other Dr. Destroyer-level PC enemy) to fight the good Doctor. "Hey Mechanon, Dr. Destroyer want to save all organic life -- so he can rule it!" "Hey Takofanes! Dr. Destroyer thinks you're a crusty old geezer!" That last one doesn't seem too probable to me, but the first two seem to be reasonable tactics.
  18. Re: Juggernauts Unlimited You just described Marvel's Unus the Untouchable. (blasted, can't seem to get a ling -- try this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unus_the_Untouchable)
  19. Re: Your "2010" Pet Gaming Projects 1. Finish revising my novel, The Fifth Hour 2. Finish my Fifth Hour RPG.
  20. Re: Do I need the 6th Martial Arts book? Heck, I'd get for just the styles. I've tried to stat out marine martian arts, and other than Baritsu, I've never heard of the other styles. Save me a lot of pain. Are there any rules for making "formless" martial arts, e.g. one's that make up moves "only the fly?" Like Systema or high-level qigong? I've been tweaking the latest version of Doc Vision with it using a multipower with variable cost slots of Exert, TK only to upset balance, Flash, etc. Are there rules for "possessed" or "one with the Force?" Like, you enter combat, something takes control of you (animal spirits, God, etc.) and before you know it, you've kicked everybody's ass. It's another hard-tp-stat thing. I was thinking about it beig NCC (-2) but that seems too much of an advantage since the power kicks on at exactly right time (i.e., combat).
  21. Re: Do I need the 6th Martial Arts book? No. I don't think it's a trick question. I'm really wondering if the 6th ed. book will be more a rehash of what was in the Ninja Hero and UMA 5th ed books, which it doesn't seem to be. So I should really get it.
  22. I was wondering if I should get the 6th ed. Martial Arts book. I already have the FrED, as well as Ninja Herp, and both copies of UMA (the one on CD, and the earlier one on paper.) I'm mainly looking for more martial arts styles -- something not covered in the books above. Should I get the 6th ed Martial Arts book?
  23. Re: Ben 10: Alien Force -Season 3 (6E) Sorry to troll, but shouldn't it be Wrath, not Rath? As in anger? Wrathe was well, angry.
  24. Re: Physical might: Strongest characters in comics and other media, and benchmarks What, if I may ask, is TAS? BTW, let's not forget Magog. I've never seen him, but I've read he had the power of an entire warrior race -- a billion billion people, IRC. Also IIRC he fought the entire legions of Asgard, and was strartin gto win, before Thanos called him back. Or so I heard. Odinpower Thor is also stupidly powerful. He den't Captime America's shield! And then he hammerd out the dent. Probably this is due to the Odinpower...didn't Odin have power around the level of Galactus? And then there's World Hulk, who held down this Thor when he had x10 strength from warrio's rage....maybe the stupid level of power above (denting Cap's shield) only apply to hs hammer?
  25. Re: HERO SYSTEM MARTIAL ARTS -- What Do *You* Want To See?: More on Anting-anting Hey, I'm not the only one who knows about the anting-anting! I've heard a couple stories about the anting-anting firsthand. The "real" version was told to me by my grandmother. My grandfather (or was it granduncle?) was observing a deer munching on some leaves and a vine. After several weeks of this, the deer was markedly improved. Grandma has made a tea out of these leaves; it's actually quite good, tasting like basil. The plant was also studied by the University of the Phillipines. However, (presumedly due their limited funds) they were only able to figure out what vitamins and like were in them, not any world-saving proteins, etc. Calcium and a few other things were found, that's all. The next story is about a criminal who had an anting-anting that would protect him from bullets. The police eventually trapped him on a bridge, and shot him. The criminal was thrown into the water by the Knockback. When the criminal was later apprehended (I don't know if he was alive or not at that point)...they found that the bullet had been stopped by the anting-anting. Remember, anting-anting are locket-sized, so the bullet basically hit it square in the center. Another story is about Nardo Putik, or Nardo Mud (IIRC). He was so called because...he could disappear "into mud." Or as we say, "into thin air." (Yeah, the whole mud thing confuse me too.) As the name suggests, his anting-anthing could make him invisible. And finally, there's my favorite anting-anting story. Once a year, on the feast day of a certain saint at midnight (I don't what day), the anting-anting will drip from the leaf of a certain plant (I don't remember what either). You must catch it in your mouth before it hits the ground. At the same moment, all manner of demons and ghosts will surround you and try to kill you, but you will be safe so long as the anting-anting is in your mouth. If you can make it to daybreak, the ghosts and demonds will disappear and the anting-anting will be yours! I don't know what this last anting-anting does. It could be any of the above, or it could be a generic "protection from evil." Or it could make the wearer invulnerable to attacks from ghosts and demons. Anyway it's cool story!
