Tjack got a reaction from Christopher R Taylor in Prisons
Maximum security prisons would look at lot more like super-max ones. Or just getting sentenced to super-max would be much more common.

Tjack got a reaction from Rich McGee in Supers Image game
Granted, some of the Fourth World/Eternals stuff could be pretty out there. But the costumes of the Fantastic Four & Challengers of the Unknown are classics. Clean and simple, copied by everyone. The era of the ‘60’s and ‘70s fashions and art were equally ugly and probably had a lot to do with all that
I’m just getting in the habit of sticking up for Jack Kirby since he didn’t get the recognition he deserved from the MCU movies until recently.

Don’t go dissin’ “King” Kirby ‘round here.

This isn’t a shot at you but....Why not? Isn’t Marvel’s current Capt. Britain a Muslim woman? A love of country and the morals to be a hero aren’t or at least shouldn’t be based on race. Besides Great Britain outlawed slavery long before the U.S. and we have no claim to be free of racism.
My only point with the character is that I believe they have Aslan misspelled. At least according to C.S. Lewis.
edit; 2 hours later After checking the Marvel Database I find that I am incorrect about the existence of a female, Muslim Capt. Britain.

Tjack got a reaction from DentArthurDent in Swords in science fiction -- why?
Swords may not be used by modern soldiers, but knives certainly are. Part of every country’s military training is knife work. From silent kills to “what to do when you’re out of ammo.” how to handle a blade is considered vital.
Swords just aren’t part of most modern cultures, but if they started becoming seriously used by one, than everybody else would have to take them up again since few hand to hand weapons can match them for deadliness.

It’s very late and I read the title of your thread as Clerical Magic as in a magical Administrative Assistant or Office Manager. Well, if you can have a Kitchen Witch why not an Office Witch?🧙♀️

Tjack got a reaction from Word Sensei 515 in IS this still avallable?
If it doesn’t set off anybody’s hot button issues, what is the Sad Puppies thing?
Or at least point me to some where I can read the story someplace else.

Tjack got a reaction from Khymeria in Suitable powers for a French-Indian War scenario
I’d start by checking out the reference materials for characters. Start with comic book characters like DC comics Tomahawk, then progress to movie stuff like The Patriot and Last of the Mohicans, then TV with a Fess Parker double feature of Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone.
A lot of these are pretty identical on paper so you’ll have to go out of your way to make them more individual with backstory and disads.
You might also have some luck with varying the nationalities of the PC’s. An ex-slave from Africa or the Caribbean could give some magical help. (Although it may be culturally insensitive for someone not of that race to play.)
Stealing a Slayer from Joss Whedon, or a “Shadow Slayer” as they call ‘em in D20 Urban Arcana could do the same thing.

Tjack got a reaction from David Blue in Is the D20 system really that incompatible with superhero RPGs?
This is a little like asking if a Porsche can pull a horse trailer. Because the answer to both is “Yeah.....kinda.” But there’s better and easier ways to do it.
D20 was originally built for D&D. (duh) a game that didn’t use or need big power effects. That’s what is best for. You can find ways to add on big superpowers but it always going to be a little clunky.
If you wanted to run a NetFlicks type “Defenders” game, you can do it on D20 fairly easily. But for an MCU Avengers style you want something that was created to do just that. Like maybe Champions? The best thing I always believed about Champs was that you could play anything with it. Supers, Sci-Fi, 1930’s Pulp, whatever. That did lead to the system being a little complex for some folks.
What I’m trying to say is that you want to use the right tool for the job at hand. What kind of game are you looking to do, or is this more of a philosophical question?

Tjack got a reaction from Drhoz in Real People Who Would have Been Supers In A Supers Universe
And Brian Blessed. My God....just using them as the basis for agents for a British MI-13 team during the ‘60’s & ‘70’s. The book practically writes itself!
For Bruce Lee in a comic book, check out the 1970’s editions of Shang Chi Master of Kung Fu drawn by Christopher Golden or Doug Monch
For Harry Houdini in a comic book try Gotham by Gaslight. An Elseworlds series set in Victorian era Gotham with Batman chasing Jack the Ripper.

Tjack got a reaction from DentArthurDent in Post Apocalyptic Monetary System (Deathlands has the best Idea)
There are any number of political websites on the web. Please do not try to turn this into one. This conversation is about Monetary Systems in a Fantasy Post Apocalyptic World. If you want to discuss your views about gun control....take it elsewhere. At least to a more appropriate thread.

Tjack got a reaction from Pattern Ghost in Power Levels: The Best Movie Batman To Take Down Joker
For a smart Caped Crusader you have to go to Fox’s Batman: TAS. The best of the the cartoon Batmen. Followed by either the WB’s continuation or for nostalgia go to the Filmation version from the late ‘60’s that had the voices of Adam West & Burt Ward.
Yes I’m a geek, we’ve discussed this before.

I used to work as an EMT and there’s truth to the trope about the mentally challenged being hella strong. Maybe it’s just that they push themselves further than the rest of us do. But it is real and they will bust you up if you’re not really careful.

Tjack got a reaction from Ndreare in If Champions never existed, what superhero RPG would you have played (or be playing today)?
I got into Champions because a girl asked me to. I was chasing after her and she was in a game and knew I was into comic books in a big way. I loved the game and stayed with it long after she and I were no more.
So you’ll have to ask her what game she would have been playing ‘cause she could have asked me to try laying down in traffic and I would have said OK.

Tjack reacted to Michael Hopcroft in A Thread for Random Movie Lines
"Gordon..."
"Who's this Gordon character?"
"That is your name, Gordon..."
"My mother calls me Sting. My children call me Sting."
(In case anyone wonders, that's from Michael Apted's documentary Bring on the Night, about the recording of Sting's seminal "solo" debut The Dream of the Blue Turtles.)

What did our parents do to kill boredom before the internet?
I asked my 10 brothers and sisters, but they don’t know either.
