  1. This! Most of the changes between editions have been in design or clarification, not actual game play. With a few exceptions, such as "is END 1/5 or 1/10 Active Points?", "is range -1/x" or -2 per distance doubling?", "is it 2xEGO or EGO +10?". And we do like to debate design (I know *I* do!), but actual play hasn't changed that much. When I ran Pulp Hero at cons, I had the weapons play specifications on the character sheets that I handed out. I had the builds on my side of the GM screen, just in case it mattered, but it wasn't generally relevant to the players. Also it was easy to describe in words what they did to someone not familiar with Hero System. "This is a big-game rifle. You get two shots, then need to take time to reload. Whatever it hits tends to go down and stay down. You may want to make sure the two chances you get before reloading hit the target." Someone with Hero System experience can read 3d6 RKA, +1 STUN, +2 RMod, 2 Charges, Extra Time (1 Phase) to reload. It worked well. And of course I have my own preferences, but at the end of the day I'll play whatever Hero edition game is out there, with whatever house rules. If I'm running, then I'll run my own preferences. But IMHO the edition holy wars are a BAD thing for Hero Games, especially given the relative scarcity of players.
  2. 11 days remaining and $6,250 to go... unless there's a push at the end, I don't think it'll fund. (Disclosure: I've pledged.)
  3. Aye. Sucked when SCUBA Heroine was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, too. We're still standing - glad to hear you are too.
  4. Re: Order of the Stick :glug: :glug: :glug:
  5. Re: Order of the Stick So we have the Empire of Blood and the Empire of Tears... I assume that at some point, we'll run into the Empire of Sweat...
  6. Re: Who is sticking to 4th or 5th Ed HERO On a side note, the new rules require a rewrite of some builds. For example, Kinetik in Champions 6e has the same Dizzying Spin Drain DEX that he had in Champions Universe 5e - BUT it no longer affects OCV and DCV! I think that was an oversite, and that the build should have had Expanded Effect at the +1 level to affect OCV and DCV as well. Also note that the DCV Drain has half effect, due to its being a related defensive ability... maybe also buy twice the dice to Drain DCV. (Assuming that the intent was to duplicate the 5e Power.) Also, all the HKA writeups I remember top out at 2x the base DCs, even though that's no longer the standard rule. These aren't *problems* with 6e per se - just a reminder that you have to keep the rules changes in mind when designing to make sure you get the right effect.
  7. Re: Order of the Stick Exactly. If Redcloak betrays Xykon, Xykon wouldn't mind killing (probably in a most unpleasant, lingering measure [look at what they he did to O'Chul]) Redcloak. Or, if he didn't have the time, just killing him. Or worse. Redcloak *can't* escape...
  8. Re: Order of the Stick Xykon's still looking for his phylactery, right? Instead of searching for the Gate?
  9. Re: Order of the Stick The word 'Gate' was not spoken in strip 693. So, someone earlier must have come along and said that word???
  10. Re: Order of the Stick I think that, for the first time, Belkar actually cares about something other than himself...
  11. Re: Order of the Stick Good Idea: Dashing Swordsmand in a one-shot scenario. Bad Idea: Dashing Swordsman in an ongoing campaign.
  12. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Netzilla couldn't be present for Saturday's game, but one quote from the session: "I won't have you questioning my intelligence!" "I'm not questioning your intelligence, I'm questioning your plan."
  13. Re: Order of the Stick I like how Rich takes what might look like a one-shot throw-away and develops it.
  14. Re: Order of the Stick Okay, I also didn't see V giving up his/her marriage that easily, either...
  15. Re: Order of the Stick Okay, I didn't see that one coming...
  16. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far Could well be. Like I said, I don't think there's enough data to tell for sure.
  17. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far I *think* the top three in order are D&D White Wolf Steve Jackson Games Hero Games may be fourth. As far as I know, there is not enough data in the public domain to say for sure. (Nor do I know how close SJG and DoJ are.)
  18. Re: Deathstroke module from 1983 DNAgents.
  19. Re: Order of the Stick I'ts good to see the entire Order of the Stick once more all alive, on the same plane, and in the same panel. mmmmmmmmmmm............
  20. Re: Order of the Stick Okay (and correct me here if I'm wrong; I'm not up on D&D 3.5), if the phylactery gets destroyed, it doesn't destroy Xykon, right? --- but it does mean if he does get 'killed' then it's for real, right? Would be interesting to see if that changes his attitude. And my prediction is
  21. Re: Order of the Stick Given the track record of NPCs in OotS, my opinion is that O'Chul dies... ... BUT! His death sets much more storytelling into play.
  22. Re: Order of the Stick If so, I'll stand with you in weirdness. Mr. Burlew has an uncanny knack for making me care about stick figures. "Hey Roy! Wanna play blocks?" "More than anything."
  23. Re: Order of the Stick I'm reminded of a scene in the new Battlestar Galactica: Captain Apollo! CAPTAIN APOLLO!! LEE!!! O-Chul is the embodiment of the ideal paladin, much as Miko was the embodiment of obeying the letter, but not the spirit, of the paladin...
  24. Re: Order of the Stick Could certainly be one of the themes that Rich wants to illustrate...
