  1. Re: What variation of Champions do you play in? My group uses 5th edition with some 4th edition and only play Champions. Virtually nothing from CU.
  2. A world without crime Heroes and heroines fight crime generally to keep people & society safe (including family, friends, loves, etc.), as well as for moral reasons. If the world were suddenly free of crime, my heroes would (going down my list...): Neutron - be glad to finally give up crimefighting. He's tired of fighting VIPER and now that he's married has even more reason to want a peaceful life. He's my very first character of over 20 years. Roger - life would continue as usual. Being a toon, he tends to have more fun not fighting crime than fighting it. I do have to say, adding Roger to the team actually changed the entire team's modus operanti (?). Going on a 'steak-out' has a new meaning nowadays. Blue Wind - she'd be glad. She has a singing career and is busy as it is right now. Tech - she's a policewoman and a fine good one at that. Without crime, there'd still be some things for the police to do but not much that I can think of. She's probably have to quit her job and do something else. What it would be, she wouldn't know. Bulls-Eye - also in the police force and a top-grade sharpshooter. My guess is he might become a park warden or ranger; anything to use his skills. Maybe he'd become a professional archer though he's not an archer at the moment. Silverstreak - give us his powered armor and continue in his field. Not much of a change since he was always more interested in technology anyways. Angel (Beldandy) - based on Beldandy from OMG, since she's from a different dimension anyways, she'd be happy to marry her love some day and have a simple life. Still, there are plenty of things for her to do other than fight crime, such as helping lost children, etc. etc. All in all, I guess my characters don't have any particular obsessions with fighting crime. They do it to protect their loved ones and move on with life; it's what they do in life but it's not their life.
  3. Re: Superhero Images Over-rendered or not, it's still a cool pic.
  4. Re: Favorite Published Villains I've seen a couple posts where 'The Dragon' is mentioned but it's certainly not in CKC. Where is he/it mentioned or published?
  5. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Some time ago, one of my brother's heroes used HKA to chop off a villain called Scorpion's mechanical arms and tail. Later, he's talking to another hero who never met Scorpion: "Yeah, I decapitated Scorpion." (other heroes shocked reaction) "Um, I mean I chopped off his arms and tail." (not much better reaction)
  6. RE: bad joke Boo! Booooooo! (laughs real hard). Why didn't I see that coming?! Actually, I liked this joke.
  7. Re: Origin suggestions needed ASAP To quote someone: "Me like!" The more I think about these, the more I like them. These could work with one of her Psych Limits I wrote up: 'Wants to prove self'.
  8. Re: Origin suggestions needed ASAP I understand your confusion. Due to some unusual problems when I first tried to post a single thread, two of them ended up being posted. I immediately asked one of them be deleted but by then, they had already been replied to so Ben left them both up. For my purposes, I'm using this one. I wasn't even aware the other one was still going. My thanks to OddHat and MisterVimes, excellent ideas for me to work with. I'm going to have to give these some thought. Thinking, thinking... You're right, Kirby, what I said does sound odd. Simply put - my sprain is really painful and keeping me from concentrating. As for her upbringing, this is also a great idea to think on. Okay, I still have some time: any other personality suggestions tied to what I've mentioned for her brief origin, anyone?
  9. Re: Thanks to all! Since I've just more or less finished her, I'm working on her personality. Her personality has been affected by the fact that she knew she had a deadly disease but now is healty & even has powers. The powers aspect also plays into this, because they aren't part of her race. I'm still working on it, I guess.
  10. Re: Thanks to all! First, I apologize for any typos - I'm really sore from a pulled muscle. I guess I inferred some things but I know what I wanted to say: ... when she woke up from the medical tube and opened it herself, she realized she was no longer on her home planet but on a different planet, called Earth. She wakes up, probably in a field/forest/etc., away from the obvious view of human population and not in a lab. Her origin gets dictated that she later gets found by a couple and gets raised by them. Details can be filled in as I play the character. I've done the Unfamiliar withe Earth before so I purposely had her raised by earth people to avoid that. Now, what happened between her falling asleep on her planet and waking up on Earth is the big blank. Did earthlings find her and investigate her, later accidentally losing her or did she get sent to Earth on purpose or by accident? Did she get sent here to avoid a cataclysm? One thing that's very obvious but subtle (ok, so I contradict myself) is how I phrased that there's no trace of the illness... I never said she still didn't have it. Earth may have put it in remission or it may be actually gone. Who knows? Things could get changed since I'm collaborating with a GM on this. Yeah, she looks human, since I'm using a supergirl pic I modified. I call her Wonder Girl for her superheroine name. Some of the other players scoff at rather simplistic names like that, but I pull off my: "If I came up with a name like Mr. Fantastic, the Thing or the Human Torch, you would have thought those aren't very good."
  11. Thanks to all! I had a lot of laughs reading through these. I poured over a lot of these and before I let you know what I created (by picking a little here & there and combining my own thoughts), first some comments: Oddhat: I've always liked Bam-Bam but he married Pebbles. Hermit: Loved the various ideas. Kirby: I got the joke right away. Still laughs at the 'She's a woman from Mars???' NecroBob: Bitten by a radioactive fence. Tempting, I must say but nah. Still, could be used for a villain. Okay, on to the origin... She comes from a world not too different from Earth. While she was young, she was found to have one of that world's rarest & incurable illnesses. She was put in stasis in a medical container and, as was the practice, was to be shipped to the orbiting station until the illness could be cured. When she awoke again, she was on Earth. She has no idea of how she go there. There is no trace of the illness she had and has superabilities not shown on her planet. I think I've left enough plot devices in her origin, don't you? So, your opinions?
  12. I've created a supergirl-type character for a superteam. I like the origin where the world she' from has blown up, essentially because the past is completely severed - there's no world to go back to, but other ideas would be accepted. I've seen characters from other worlds where once they find the way back, they logically left to go back home. I don't want that happening. The thing is: I need her origin by this Friday! Could everyone throw origins, origin plot ideas or simply suggestions.
  13. I've created a supergirl-type character for a superteam. I like the origin where the world she' from has blown up, essentially because the past is completely severed - it can't be gone back to short of time-travel. Still, a different origin would be nice. The thing is: I need her origin by this Friday! Could everyone throw origins, origin plot ideas or simply suggestions. Help O Herodom of Hero Games!
  14. Reality or Not? I like the system for many reasons, some of those being it's ease to use once you're familiar with it... ok, it's easy for me, it's versatile and it applies to reality. Some of you might wonder if I'm spacing out but hear me out: Whenever you see something in the movies or even just by walking down the street, I can instantly think of how that might have happened in Champions. examples I've used in real life: 1. Fred, you really blew your Intelligence roll! 2. Man, that guy has an 8 Dex. 3. I have a bonus to my Perception roll vs insects. 4. I guess you made a perfect 3.

    Catch this!

There have been a few threads about how far someone with a high STR can throw things but I want to 'catch' something before it hits my game. The example below explains it fairly well: A villain and a hero are flying in the air. The villain, Hurler with a 100 STR hurls a tank weighing 40 tons at the hero, Kablamo Man, who has a 60 STR. Kablamo Man decides to catch the tank rather than dodge & let it crash into the crowds watching below. Okay, both superpowered beings have the ability to pick up & catch the tank. Now, the $100 question is: how long is it going to take for Kablamo Man to stop the tank? Often enough, we see a superhero catch something a villain throws. Sometimes, the hero easily catches it but more often than not, the hero catches it and strains to stop the momentum of the object before it hits the ground. Does anyone have a chart or can you give give suggestions &/or help on how to handle this?
  16. Re: Goofy hero names that you still love We had someone make a hero with a hi-tech suit that, of course, could fly. His name? Flyboy! Yah, it's pretty bad but he made his name to be respected due to his power.
  17. Re: Whats your favorite Attack? It might seem common but a good Energy Blast is always fun. So is a haymaker.
  18. Funny Many, many moons ago when I played D&D, my friend and brother were in a dungeon with our characters, they had just finished killing a monster. It went down with one hit. Just as my friend shouted out, "It's dead!?", an ambulance passed by outside. Now for the cherry on the top: we just happened to get this recorded on tape. Champions-wise, one of the characters fired off a bio-electric energy blast at a villain and hit. The damage was rolled and called out. At that moment, someone outside loudly shouted something like "Wow!". Without losing a beat, my brother replied, "Well, it wasn't that good." Everyone laughed long and hard.
  19. Re: Supervillain Organizations In Your Town That's hilarious! Still, I have a couple thief villains who'd try it just for the thrill.
  20. Re: The Battle of Detroit...an adventure? If you want, you could have the actual PC's in the fight and assuming they survive, it won't change anything. After all, with all the fighting going on, a few superheroes that survived but weren't accounted for wouldn't change anything. As for who to use, well, that's quite a feat. I would suggest villains you may have retired and won't use again for one, since they'll be killed off most likely in the fight. Robots & machines of all sizes will be involved. Make up villains with bare statistics to fight. Most people don't use it in a superhero game but I suggest using long-term endurance rules (are those rules still around?). BTW, Chuckg, the Destroyer that's in CKC is not the same Destroyer statistic-wise that would be fought. The one in CKC is the newest armor. I'd suggest the one from 'The Island of Dr. Destroyer' or 'Day of the Destroyer'. Maybe add a 100 pt Gadget pool, designed for lethality.
  21. Re: Anime based games, have you done one? I still have their statistics if interested. However, I won't be replying for at least a couple weeks. Moving to a new place does that.
  22. Re: Anime based games, have you done one? For about 2 1/2 years, I GM'd a Sailor Moon campaign, integrated into the Champions world. The SM events were secret for the most part: the world in general had no idea what was going on. The game started from their humble beginnings with the girls meeting each other. It went through the entire first series more or less, the Doom Tree saga, SMR and ended in the middle of SMS. Still, it was a blast.
  23. Re: Freaky-powerful and complex! Bear with me on this one, people. I'm trying to remember a complicated power without the sheet in front of me. 22d6 Healing (Stun & Body) + 3d6 Aid to all stats except Stun & Body (can't recall exact Power), usuable once/year, costs end, results occur over 3 minute period, full concentration, character loses as much Body as is healed, side-effect: 1d6 loss from all stats (except Int, Ego, Com, Pre) for 1 day It's not totally accurate but it's something like this.
  24. Re: GMs: PC Scrutiny & Acceptance I handle new characters more or less like so: 1) Is this a good concept? I don't care what skills, powers, stats or anything else is if the concept is just plain bad. 2) Does it fit into the campaign? (closely linked to 1 above). Again, doesn't matter what the concept is if it hurts the campaign. 3) Is the character balanced? A character that is lopsided with powers but not enough defense will get either revised or not allowed. 4) Is the character going to cause problems for other players? Interestingly enough, this causes the most amount of problems in my campaign. What I mean by 'problems' is does the character mimic too closely another character or steal the thunder from another? Will the character fit into a group or if intended to be a loner, will the character be able to get together with the other characters during the course of an episode. A character that fails one of these will most likely be not allowed. Oh, yes, forgot the last one... 5) Does it pass all the GM's? Since there are multiple GM's for the campaign, each has a stake in the character.
  25. Re: It's all about willpower Why not just 'AID to (whatever) stats, must make Ego Roll'. Still, this may not be what you want. A Multipower with individual powers to represent his 'pushing himself' might work. A suggestion is below that might be challenged by the rules (I don't have the book in front of me and haven't looked at it in awhile): Multipower - Willpower u. 'I refuse to get sick' +40 Con (no fig cha), 10 pts Power Defense, costs end u. 'No one could've survived that' Damage Reduction 3/4 Resist vs PD, costs end u. 'No one could've survived that' as above vs ED u. 'I've got to move this!' +50 Str (no fig cha) u. 'Move it or else!' +20" Running, x8 NCM, costs end etc etc. Thought I'd throw this out from the top of my head. Does this mean I'm standing on my head??
