  1. Re: What would you do as GM when our intrepid . . . . . . An enchanted forest is an excellent place to experience a hunter's worst nightmare: talking animals. As one who makes his living killing soul-less animals to feed men, imagine his surprise to meet a talking deer who wonders by and asks if he is lost or is in need of assistance. Go ahead, let that arrow fly.
  2. Re: Web-slinger: fun with spider webs For the blinding part Boll Weevil has a slot in his MP: : Here's Web in your Eye Entangle 5d6, 5 PD/5 ED (Stops Sight Group), Takes No Damage From Attacks (Only Head-Shots Damage the Entangle; +1/4); Does Not Prevent The Use Of Accessible Foci (-1) (75 active points). No worries there. For the web-line between BW and his attacker, I wonder if the Stretching could be applied to the MP as a naked Advantage. I may just be thinking too hard about this and call it a special effect. Both Boll Weevil and his attacker could use the line in a STR vs STR contest so I don't think he is getting something for free, especially if he has already paid for Entangle, Barrier, Swinging (supplies the line) and Stretching.
  3. Re: Web-slinger: fun with spider webs Makes sense. Repped.
  4. You are the GM. A certain good-looking and devilishly charming player in your group is playing a Spider-man homage. His character has, among other things, in his web-slinging Multipower: Entangle (various Advantages), Swinging, Stretching, Barrier, etc. His MP is all Fixed but we can discuss both ways. The group is fighting several robot minions and wants to do a Multiple Attack. No problem. He describes his action thusly from the video: Spiderman's attack at ~1:30. What is your ruling? Will you allow it? I have never heard mention of an entangle with an attached manipulating line. I suppose a whip would work the same way. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAQwpzkxp_4
  5. Re: Champions for newcomers. Hooray! Bummer.
  6. Re: Well, hello there, HERO System! (New Guy) Welcome, Strongbow!! Check out the Player Finder forum toward the bottom of the fora listings. Enjoy!!
  7. Re: Need help fleshing out a campagin idea Would this be a 5th or 6th ed game? If it is the latter, I think the point levels might be a bit low. 6th ed Foxbat is 400 points. Grond is 700.
  8. Re: New Look for Defender I understand Cryptic's reasoning behind the change but I always liked the iron-man nod. That said, I would totally pay money to see Tron on Ice.
  9. Re: The Abnormals. A while back, I asked who would be interested in playing in a campaign using pre-generated characters. This was the campaign I had in mind Also, you can see the group needs some rounding out. At the very least they need some air support and ranged Blasters. I suppose that could be the same guy. How would you round out this group if you were writing this comic book?
  10. Re: Champions legacy Welcome back, Cageym!! There are a few of us old timers here. What were your favorite characters to play?
  11. Re: 6th Edition apperances of the Minuteman Robot All of my heroes are mutants of some sort. IHA is an infrequent but powerful Hunted. Imagine my delight, then sudden horror, when Mutant Hero was released. Yikes, there were some big bads in that book.
  12. Re: Champions Villains Volume Two: Villain Teams Available Takofanes was in the Teleios folder (Teleios, for some reason, was not). Still no Dark Seraph. the Crowns are: Eclipse, Force, Phoenix and Temblor.
  13. Re: Champions Villains Volume Two: Villain Teams Available Yep. there seems to be a lot missing from the HD pack. Dark Seraph, Tako-fanny, seems I made a poor decision buying this product.
  14. Re: Champions Villains Volume Two: Villain Teams Available Brain Trust (5), Circle of the Scarlet Moon (4), Cirque Sinister (5), Crimelords(5), Crowns of Krim (4), Deathstroke (2), Eurostar (8), Futurist (2), GRAB (4), Merc Force 1 (3), PSI (6), Red Winter (6) and the Devil's Advocates (7). This is from the HD packs, provided all characters are represented.
  15. Re: Champions for newcomers. Hooray! Hmm, good idea. Must spread rep...
  16. As I have lamented on these boards, the group of friends I gamed with each went our separate ways 15+ years ago. Two of those friends, one lives in Florida the other over the river, have expressed interest in playing Champions again. Neither of them have played since 4th ed and were SHOCKED at the amount of material Hero had published in the time. They were especially impressed with Hero Central. Good thing too...Cincy to Key West is a hell of a commute. Neither one of them know of the Champions Universe although they are familiar with most villains from Classic Enemies. That part is easy, I can just tell them what their characters know. Done. For the system itself, they remember little of game mechanics. One of them asked if they still use points and if we would be using KB (he remembers fighting Grond and spending half his time running back into the battle map). I am thinking of helping them with their characters then sharing very little else until we've played a while. I may give them a list of combat maneuvers to show them what's possible but I guess I will mainly just try to interpret what they want to do off-line. In Hero Central, I could have two Story Boards running. One is narrative, the other I describe what is happening in game terms. I haven't decided yet if that would be beneficial. I went ahead and bought the three Villains books HD pack. Nice. They will pleased to find Grond is now 711 points (more than double Classic Enemies). Tee hee, they are going to love his stratospheric punch Also, in preparation for the game, I have been extremely pleased with using Microsoft OneNote (comes with Office). This is exactly what I had been missing all these years as a way to compile everything I need to know at my fingertips. Sweet!! Back in the day these two players liked the Friday night game night battle royale. No real roleplay just good guys, bad guys and a map. They have both said they want to do more. Cool. Where to start? I haven't seen their character ideas yet. I suppose I will wait to see if that influences the game. If one makes a demon hunter, then I doubt they would want to take down the War Machine.
  17. Re: VIPER help needed. Nightsnake?
  18. Re: CU Character Study: Gravitar I've always thought Gravitar would be happy as a lark in her role as long as Dr D was in charge. With the apparent, if temporary, death of the bad Doctor in Detroit, I would love to see how the power vacuum affected his organization. Would Gravitar rise to it or would she give her old pal Holocaust a call?
  19. Re: Champions Villains for 6th - help me decide. Thanks, all. I have avoided all things Champions Online. Shadow Destroyer, Ironclad with a sword, Defender. I may just get the HD packs and keep my universe 5th ed.
  20. Re: Tanghal tower I don't remember Microfilm madness.
  21. Re: Tanghal tower Hmm, I have a park and a construction site from Battlegrounds plus the Viper book. Seems like I should be able to cobble it together from there. Thanks, guys.
  22. Re: Tanghal tower Phooey! Dragonfly's Classic Champions campaign made me wax nostalgic. It's entirely possible I may have the old VIPER scenario but my basement storage is scary. If I don't post for a while, send help. I will likely be trapped under vinyl records and bowling trophies (purchased, of course).
  23. Re: CU team study: Eurostar Wright Patterson, of course!! I have gamed Champions in Cincinnati for 25+ years and have never included Wright Pat. Thanks for the tip! Anything with WKRP is gold! I like the other ideas as well. I have a map of the Cincinnati Art museums. I might have to go back and watch Hellboy again
  24. Have the Tanghal tower and related scenarios ever been re-released since the old VIPER module? I thought for sure it had but, looking over the books I have, that doesn't seem to be the case.
  25. The Champions Villains for 6th are here (HD packs, PDF's and one in hardcopy)!! As I mentioned in another thread, this will be the 4th (some more for those in Ultimate books) time I have bought many of the character write-ups. I bought Enemies I, II and III, Classic Enemies and CKC. I must admit, the new style of the books since Book of the Machine is pleasing to the eye and I look forward to seeing the 6th ed updates. I could have all the characters in HD format right now or pay a little more for all three PDF's. Or I could wait and pay even more for the books. First question: Is there a complete list of the characters included in each of the three books? Second, how is the art? The appeal of the hardcopy books is the beautiful visual style. If the art is recycled or not as good as previous I am not really interested. This is just personal style preference, but I strongly dislike anime or animated-series, Bruce Timm or similar art. Tell me there is more Storn Cook, Andrew Cremeans, Chris Stevens etc I will buy the books in a heartbeat. Third, are ANY of the backgrounds different than 5th ed or significantly added to? If the art is recycled and/or the backgrounds haven't changed, I think I will just get the HD files and be happy knowing I didn't miss anything. Thanks! BW
