Incidentally, tonight's Jeopardy! reminds me that today is also the anniversary of the founding of the Republic of the Philippines, in 1946. So if you find American Independence Day insufferable, roll your eyes and raise a glass for the Philippines. Their freedom matters, too.

I suspect your great success with Xarn Tarsus led other players to choose darker concepts. I suspected you would try for Something Completely Differerent, and I am not disappointed

Ironically, one of my favorite things from that draft was that Xarn would be ultimately doomed to never achieve his dark goals thanks to a careful interference. It's a fate Tarsus deserved because he was a jerk! But thank you

I sure hope somebody creates a god of something good or hopeful or this will be the most miserable world ever.

She appeared as a young woman with old eyes. Or was it the other way around? She was frail yet resilient. She carried candles, her own never going out. Each candle, when lit, seemed brighter the darker it got. Most curious.
And she often sung to herself, and thus to the worlds, but it often seemed nonsense. She chattered in the gloom with surprisingly chipper tones,  "It's all broken now, good good. That's how the light gets in.  Such corpulent bullies, some of  my brothers can be, but they're all rather sad when you think about it. Misery makes company one supposes, so I guess that means they'll make mortals soon enough. Maybe they will be the salvation of some gods for that?  No ancient urns here, I don't doubt. All the more precious for their short time among us. All the more rewards that might await if we dare to seek them, await in the making."
She wore a tattered garb to be sure, but it was strong, and one could see under the worn nature of it it was laced with silver linings aplenty if you just took time to look for them. And still she talked, "No happy endings? Pshaw, if there are no happy ending its only because nothing ever ends: not really. Keep believing, keep pretending- that's what connects the rainbows. Even in the darkness there are colors to be found. " Perhaps she was mad, for she said things like this even when no one was listening, as if she could make them listen by saying it often enough. She was nothing if not persistent and she called out into the shattered world:
“When you're at the end of your rope, tie a knot and hold on!"
No one should have been surprised that a younger goddess of Hope would arise in a broken world where Avarice, Hatred, Intrigue and Murder marched...
"Oft hope is born when all is forlorn.”
    And so she was

Does DCEU even have any likeable characters anymore? Superman is supposed to be, but the recent iteration hasn't really been. Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman is okay. I didn't make it far enough into Shazam! to make a judgment, although Zach Levi is likeable enough. I know almost nothing of the various TV series.

I found the whole 'Shazam fam' to be rather likable in the movies. DCEU's Aquaman is likable in a friendly jock kind of way so if you like friendly jocks,  you like that version of Aquaman. I found Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman delightful but I confess I am a soft touch. I didn't like Ezra much as Barry and that was BEFORE I knew he was deeply troubled (ie a Nutbar who is dangerous to those around him).

I have high hopes for Jaime as Blue Beetle, but with the bad word of mouth DC has, I think even if he's the most adorkable kid in years movie wise, his movie may flop

Remember when Zelensky said "I need ammunition, no a ride" and then stayed in Kyiv during the entire siege? Yeah? What a man.

Putin urgently leaves Moscow for bunker in Valdai – Ukrainian intelligence

Putin's special Il96-300PU (Control Point) aircraft departed Moscow for St Petersburg at 14:16 (Moscow time), according to FlightRadar data. The destination of the aircraft is not indicated, and it disappeared from the tracking system over the Tver area. One of Putin's residences is located in Tver Oblast. Equipment for the control of the Russian Armed Forces is installed on this aircraft.

Does anyone know what Ukrainian forces are doing during this, if it's changed their plans for advance? I mean, retaking Crimea sooner rather than later might be possible?

  7. My very late last picks... a group of noble creatures with little reason to trust humans and every reason not to trust "Xanatos' lackeys", a returned wizard freed from a Crystal Cave ready to bring ancient wisdom to a new world where magic has returned, and one last treasure, a big one!

The first two episodes of The Muppets Mayhem on Disney+. The basic premise is that there's a small record company in Hollywood that's winding down until the assistant finds that The Electric Mayhem owe it an album. She then attempts to herd cats the Electric Mayhem towards recording the album. Expect lots of random cameos. There are 10 episodes, each running about 28 minutes or so, but it feels much longer. The story probably should have been done in about 90 minutes, as I started losing interest fairly rapidly (and I'm a big fan of the Muppets).

BTW, The Electric Mayhem at their best reminds me a lot of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sajA51HO6Ww

I finally watched it. I actually loved it. It had it's flaws, and maybe I am just vulnerable to Nostalgia, but I found myself smiling quite a lot, and laughing outloud at a few. I think they stayed true to the characters even as they fleshed out their back stories.

Earlier on the thread I suggested the Grey Ghost's hat, something that could have been casually lost. Hood and saber imply that Black Mask beat him, and their conflicts are described as "inconclusive."

Ah, sorry about that, LL! I did indeed miss that

I would think there would be Confederate officer's sword. Proclamations and certificates signed by Abraham Lincoln, Regimental battle flags, A deck gun pulled off a WW1 U-Boat, The rudder panel from a unidentified air craft. A set of Hanafuna (sic) cards liberated from the San Francisco cell of Japanese spies around the time of Pearl harbor, make up/ disguise kit from a female German Saboteur, experimental helmet for a supersonic flyer.  Sorry, no giant pennies.

The timeline in 6th Ed Champions Universe has this : 1861-1865: The American Civil War. Matthew Ward, as Black Mask IV, fights alongside the Northern Army, while the mysterious Grey Ghost aids the Confederates."

So I would suggest the Grey Ghost's hood and sabre
