  1. "Sir, we're still under water.. if you open that hatch, water will flow in?"

"And this is a problem HOW?" The bare chested man asked

"We'll all drown because unlike you we can't breathe under water?"

"Sounds like a surface world problem,  I am the Avenging son, I wish to get to avenging!" The wing footed prince then sighed "Fine, get me to the surface, I'll leap out from there. Be quick about it."

"Yes, sir be a few minutes sir"

The pointy eared man strode off while the sub prepared to find a safe place to lift. Sure they could have opened just a compartment, but that had it's own procedure and troubles.

"Prince of a guy, huh?"  It was easier to be sarcastic once the fellow was out of ear shot.

"Just be glad he's on our side. Jerk or not, we need him. He's here to help us win a war, not to be loved"

"Well, in that case he's sure with the right crew"

The first pick of the draft should be the home base of your team. This is where they assemble to do their battling against the forces of evil.

To fight the Axis in the Pacific, we will need to be mobile, global, and hostile! We shall break the back of Imperial Japan Island by Island, we cannot afford to stay put if we hope to liberate the Ocean and bring the war to the shores of the Land of the Rising Sun! They started this fight, but we shall finish the war!

  3. With FIFTEEN votes come in, which is no small thing compared to some past drafts I've run, we close the polls and declare our winners!

First though, let me thank everyone who voted! A draft can live and die on interest, and speaking as someone who has participated in the past with my own entries, it can be very disheartening to find a lack of interest. But you guys took the time to take a peek, and give a good solid 'atta boy/gal'  aka votes to your favs! So thanks!

Another great sign is that every person who took part of the draft got at least one vote! That's not to zero votes means you were terrible, Sometimes it means you were just the fourth person someone would vote on when they only got three votes to spread around. But in this case, everyone's ideas appealed to someone. A big round of applause to every contestants. I can honestly say I got a kick out of each entry , though each for different reasons.

By now some of your eyes are glazing over as you wait for the announcements of our winners....

The Bronze medal of Mighty Third place goes to Bazza, for The Squirrel, The Stinson and The Wiccan.

Amazons are often a big hit with the crowds here. As is Lovecraft! Naturally, Bazza decided they were the two great flavors that taste great together. And it got him four votes!

The Silver Medals of Spectacular Second goes to two, for we have a tie. At Six Votes each, we have THE TRAVESTY OF THE RING by Cancer! For a time it seemed Cancer's creation was going to rise to the top spot, floating on a flood of tolkien purist fans outrage! As his protagonist might say "Most Excellent!" , but then gaining rapidly came Old Man's Revenge of the Jedi, or, The Cruel Tutelage of Arya Stark .  And if Uncle Iroh can't keep  Arya Stark on the light side of the force for her Jedi training? Well, who can ? So each gets one silver medal to hold proudly high.

But there is only ONE Gold of Glory! At a mighty NINE votes, newcomer TJACK's performance takes the grand prize with a mix of fun selection, fiction, and effort well applied to gather Whedon related choices! It paid off, and Academy of the S.H.I.E.L.D.   triumphs today! So Tjack gets first place, the fictional gold medal, and the adoration of at least 25 Canadian Girlfriends who are at least as real as the gold medal.

Congrats to our winners! I hope you enjoyed this at least a little, and I hope some of you join in for the next superdraft whatever it maybe!

Lotta hatin' on vegetables in this thread.

I have hated  SO many vegetables

Yet to my surprise, I learned that, properly cooked, I actually LIKE Asparagus . I mean, like two years ago, I finally tried some (or maybe I had blanked out my early tries) and found I liked it.

Brussel Sprouts really are little Grinch testicles though

  5. I have a better chance of understanding Klingon than I do stocks. And I don't speak Klingon. that said, what I'm seeing about this in the other threads has tickled me. Apparently though there's been a lock down, possibly an illegal one, preventing further purchases? Bonkers.

That's certainly keeping with the spirit of the game, though. Welcome to that Superdraft experience. :)

I'm still trying to think of another finale other than the vote, but those dialogues I used to do are a ton of work. Still thinking on it.

Yes, but Lacey and the gang were wonderful!

I don't know whether it will carry any weight for the Dems to point out that they have absolutely nothing to do with San Francisco's school boards. But if I were them I'd start messaging that now.

It's why I said 'this sort of thing'. Though we do have School Board elections over here with folks touting their party in East TN (almost always proudly declaring themselves proud conservatives at least) so perhaps I am jumping to conclusions that the San Fran School board has likewise folks doing this in the name of progressive values etc. And yeah, the Dem PARTY might want to stress that, because in a country where optics are used as weapons like they are the US, you can bet Fox news will be talking about 'the democrats want to erase history' and some will eat it up.

Washington and Lincoln are out. S.F. school board tosses 44 school names in controversial move

The 6-1 vote followed months of controversy, with officials, parents, students and alumni at odds over whether Abraham Lincoln and George Washington high schools, Dianne Feinstein Elementary and dozens of others needed new names with no connection to slavery, oppression, racism or similar criteria...the committee didn’t know whether Roosevelt Middle School was named after Theodore or Franklin Delano....

    https://www.sfchronicle.com/education/article/Washington-and-Lincoln-are-out-S-F-school-board-15900963.php

I haven't tried to make a secret of the fact that I think that renaming things is, at best, something that's abysmally stupid to focus upon when there's real problems that can be effectively addressed like inappropriate police behavior.

But if no one literally knows who the school is named after and can't figure it out, why should anyone be offended at the name?

I doubt there's half a dozen kids in the school which could tell you which Roosevelt they should be ticked off at and why that should be ticked off at him in the first place. Much less who Dianne Feinstein is and why they should, in theory, be ticked off at her.

IMO, This sort of thing one of the reasons Democrats are going to lose in 2 years. This is what moderates are going to see. Good intentions turned into historical purity tests gone too far while there are real problems to be solved.

  9. After a long hiatus, Superdraft has risen like a phoenix from the ashes.. or maybe more like a roach from a refrigerator's edge? Anyway, it's come out after a long stay to proudly declare with one voice

    "Hi. I was bored"

And this call was answered! They came! For Glory! For Honor! To fashion worlds wonderful! Or perhaps laugh manically at the abomination they had deliberately wrought! Reasons varied!

Now, you, good folks are asked to vote on these 11.... *Crash* TEN TEN fine selections. Please pick the top three for you, no more than three please. We shall see how it goes! Who will win, who will get that ego saving #3 spot, and who will shake their fist at the public that does not appreciate their  genius!

However it goes down, I want to thank each and everyone of you to take time to partake. If anyone slacked at all, it was I, your humble host. And while I was not as verbose about your efforts as I should have been, know I was most impressed!

  10. I'm more of a fan of Fantasy than Sci Fi but I gave book #1 and #2 of the Bobiverse by Dennis Taylor a chance when Audible had a good two for one deal. We Are Legion (We Are Bob) is the first one . This is a story about Bob, and Bob... and Bob...

    SO many Bobs.

But we begin with Bob Johansson signing up for one of those 'we'll freeze you when you die and revive you when Science is ready' situations. What happens next is, well, maybe Bob doesn't believe in God, but he surely tempted fate. He wakes  in a theocratic future to find 'corpsicles' are property, his mind only exists in a computer, and his only way to improve his lot is to win the chance to become a part of a von Neumann probe!

Did I mention the book is surprisingly upbeat at times? Bob's nerdy humor helps him cope with his situation.

He's a likable protagonist who begats other likable protagonists and I found myself fully engaged for book one and two, went through them  very fast! The interesting thing is, the Bobs vary enough, and end up in enough different situations, that you can't say you don't have quite a buffet. Want to see a Sky god protecting a stone age species? There's a Bob for that. Want to see a Bob fight among the stars against a rival ship from Earth? There's a Bob for that! Want to see human colonies get new homes? There are Bobs for that too!

I'd give it a 9 out of 10 but again, I'm not as versed in Sci Fi as some so those of you who have 'been there, read that' may not be as impressed as I was.

  11. Don't like Miracle Whip either.

And I guess I'm in on the Yogurt and Sushi train as well. I don't have the same gross out rejection I do for Mayo /Sour Cream, but I don't like it. I've tried four kinds of sushi, best I get is "I can tolerate this but have no interest"

Not on the 'eat' list (In most states) but on the beverages? I cannot understand the obsession with coffee. The smell isn't bad, but I hate the taste. I have tried it with sugar and cream to soften it, but honestly no. Of all my dislikes, this is the one that has cost me the most in social circles. Coffee drinkers do not understand people who do not like coffee. Some have tried to assure me I just need the right type etc etc. the right blend. They are wrong. And I got flack at the office of yester year because I really didn't care whether there was fresh coffee or not. You would have thought I had let the sacred fire die and the white walkers were going to kill us all now, thanks to my neglect.
