  1. Coleen Wing and Misty Knight. Have to have KnightWing Investigations!
  2. Next faction United States Exobiological Research or USER. (I am not crazy about the name for a game that is supposed to be international in scope) Are you a fan of Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith in MiB. Well here you go. An entire organization of them. Rational. Some equipment. All the mystery, the fancy jargon. This is it. This faction's special ability is "I just happen to know someone" where they seem to have a contact in every city the PCs happen to come into. I modeled this as a BIG organization contact. They don't really represent one group, just all have this one agent in common. This so fits the setting that I actually like it (Apart from the name). Lots of hooks and roleplaying opportunity. To power her down bring the Dex down to 23 or even 20. This is certainly the case where NCM and conversions don't mesh well. The rest should stay as she is more of an information grabber. To power her up. Well the other system had no types of Martial Arts (I think they are subsumed in the Combat System) so I'd give her a basic agent type package. Again, this is NOT a front line combatant, but an info specialist.
  3. I was in at the start of a game like that. We had met at the Uni and were rolling our PCs. The GM had stated 1) only established races from the book (Palladium) were allowed and 2) NO Evil alignments. Yep you guessed it. One wanted to play this psi-race and the another wanted to play aberrant (his rational was he could be trusted as he had a sense of honour, but could torture people if he felt it was needed). When the GM put his foot down, they both walked out in a huff, and that was the end of it!
  4. If the Elohim were "gods" then the Chimera are the 'demons/monsters" of the setting. They are a hive mind race with many in contact with another at all times. But on earth they have been separated from the main body of the race and have become more individual. Chimera are birthed in a cocoon and this mechanic is one of their special abilities. If the player wants they can go into cocoon and rewrite their ENTIRE character. Naturally this takes time so would probably used in those times between adventures. Playing a Chimera is playing a monster. Either physical of mental, there is something off about them. Even if they look human, there is something off putting about them. So they are great for redemption arcs or trying to prove the humanity of themselves. OR sometimes you need a monster to preserve humanity. "there are things out there that go bump in the night. We are the things that BUMP BACK!" Hydra is designed as a HTH monster (I made the claws normal, change them to HKA if you want). All her powers are designed to help her sneak in and quickly eliminate the opposition. Role wise, she is a classic redemption NPC. Dark things in her past. To power Hydra down is easy, get rid of the CSL. If you really want to power her down reduce Dex to 26. The rest should remain as is. Power up is a bit harder. She's nasty enough as it is, but if you insist, some more PD and ED (Combat Luck) will make here more of a front line fighter.
  5. Electra of the faction Black October Black October are what in any other game would be called.... mutants. Thousands of years ago Atlanteans placed a ... Genetic Switch in the human genepool. It would activate under certain conditions and give normal people super powers. Well about 100 years ago the switch was activated and thousands of people powered up and died as they could not contain the energies. This happened in October, hence the name. But the Mutant moniker fits. This burnout still happens as the human body is not meant to contain these energies, so when they first manifest, people panic. Black October ( I was going to use the initials then.... NAW!) is the faction if you want to play an angsty teen who has powers they have no idea how to use and will die before 30. This is almost built into the rules. Its called The Shine and lets your PC go out in a blaze of glory (the benefit to the player is he can make a new PC with all the experience of the old one. In Hero terms, if her has 350 base and has earned 75 experience his new toon is built on 425 base) So to power her down bring her dex to 24 and get rid of the skill levels. To power her up. Give her flight or T-port. She needs some movement. Maybe a SPD of 6.
  6. Nadeera the Atlantean Atlanteans are Humans who ages ago learned how to manipulate Ka energy in the form of spells and magic items. This is the faction if you want to play - a mage - an ancient warrior with a spear and magic helmet - a bit of both They are all immortal. Their special ability is that Orichalcum items cost them 25% discount. Orichalcum items not only are magical, but can store extra Ka (luck) in it in addition to your own pool (for free)! Not much I can do about that as items already get a cost discount and sorry no freebies You want the extra luck, pay for it)! So a classic archer type. Great OCV/DCV, decent damage and almost no defense. She needs the SPD for the dodges to evade damage. Also note the HUGE luck pool. This is the PC who will be spending luck to make those impossible shots, do that impossible sneak! To weaken her, get rid of all the Skill levels. To strengthen her we can go in two possible directions. One- improve the bow, add a MP with explosive, flash, AP, X2 KB arrows. Two- More spells. Utility types like Tport, Invisibility, Force Wall, Smoke Screen (Darkness) etc!
  7. First up Heru the Elohim. There are six factions (origins) in GA, the Elohim are ancient alien beings who impersonate deities. So Heru is from the faux deity group, but he has been around for millenia and was born on Earth. I think this is the faction if you want to let loose your INNER Thor, or one of Marvel's Eternals. Think larger than life, think Conan. Now each Faction has some advantage and for the Elohim it is improved Ka (Luck manipulation). When they spend a point they get one free. So one= two points effect. Two= Three Etc. To approximate this I gave him an adder to the Luck so he gets extra luck per roll so in his case 3d6+6. To weaken him, get rid of the Red. End on strength and EB, but keep it on the flight as it is a central core concept. To make him tougher increase Strength, PD, ED, and the EB. Also improving the Luck Pool should happen from time to time. The tone is take chances and accomplish great things! Which allows you to take more and bigger chances! Personality wise, he's Thor without a hammer. He thinks (and has been treated) like a god.
  8. I was looking at my (OLD) copy of Oriental Adventures and saw the listed races. The recent discussion about elves made me think that these are a lot more interesting as the elf types. But... How would you place them into a Hero game. I ask because if I were to place non humans into a game, this would be it. They are different enough to NOT be human but still be human like. Also they have no "Homeland" so every country could have a sizable population of both!
  9. Agent Chindi (Later Agent X) had started investigating a set of curious robberies and attacks that were linked to some Chimeran activity. But it must have been something MUCH bigger when members of her own cell tried to kill her. At that moment she realized she had to think outside of her usual channels to get to the bottom of things. First she approached Nedeera. They had worked together at an ‘event’ in Las Vegas and Agent X knew Nedeera had no love for her bosses. Nedeera was accompanied by a young lady they later called Electra. It was obvious that she was Black October, but she seemed to trust Nedeera, so that was OK. For the next few months they dug for clues. All the while dodging agents and chimerans. They needed more power. Nedeera suggested an “Old” friend named Heru. His sense of justice would sway him to their side. The next time the four of them went out to case a warehouse, they came under attack by some chimerans. Then the chimerans came under attack by another chimeran and an angelos. Heru recognized the newcomers as Hydra and Zuriel, people he had worked with a year ago in Mexico City. After the smoke cleared they all compared notes and found they were all looking into the same group, a mysterious menace called The World Serpent. They were now The Serpent Hunters!
  10. RPGnet had a thread recently about a new superhero game called the Godsend Agenda. Being a person always on the lookout for new ideas in a super setting, I took a look at the PDF and was intruigued. There were a few sample NPCs and so I decided to Convert them to Hero System terms. So a few ground rules Str added 5 pts to Hero Str/point. So Str 3 → 25 Dex and Con are 2.5 pts +10. So Dex 4—> 30 Since most of the NPC have Dex and Con at 2 or 3, this was not a deal breaker Int, Ego and Pre are 2.5 pts straight. So Int 3—> Int 18 PD and ED are base 8 with half Resistant. Spd is eyeballed as I am not sure about the action economy. Ka! This is a special stat that you can use for some dramatic editing. Closest I can approximate is Mr. Bennie's Gestalt Game and Luck. You can use the Ka to improve a to hit roll, a skill roll, or reduce the amount of damage you take. But you use the whole point or dice for a one point increase (or a three point decrease for damage). You also get Complications and these complications help fuel your Ka recovery. Tagging a complication can get you 1 to 5 Ka points back. For Hero terms I’d go Gestalt: Roll that many dice and that is the number of points you get for that session. Note that one NPC has a LARGE Ka pool, but she’ll need it!
  11. I believe The Seven Horsemen were set in the Protector verse of the module To Serve and Protect which had a hero team going bad. I believe this team was the PC group that he created the Seven Horsemen to challenge. If so, then I could see why. This is a 10 man team with some very powerful attacks and team tactics. But the heroes were on the whole 75 to 100 points lower that the SH. PS One entity in the SH is a nasty construct with a 1d6 KA with 20 pts resistant piercing (every point reduces the Res PD by one point, so your 25 pd/ 25 ed is now 5/5). As part of his Complications he had X2 body versus Find Weakness ( two heroes had FW), X2 body versus sonics (one hero was called Doc Sonic) and susceptible 3d6 vs fire (Hero Helios). So he was built to be as scary as possible BUT if the heroes work together, can tear him apart. I agree this is a villain team where if the heroes can put out the fires caused by the bad guys, can make them fold pretty easy.
  12. Last entry here. You always need a BIG BAD and this person could easily fit the bill This NPC should make the players cringe. Big, strong, AND can use magic. Add the good intelligence and the fact that he can plan ahead should make for a well rounded NPC. If you really want to make him a SERIOUS threat, add a tribe of Goblyns, a few Ogres, and a Troll or two and you have a enemy that needs a small army to put down!
  13. Note this is using Killer Shrikes totemic Magic System http://www.killershrike.com/FantasyHERO/HighFantasyHERO/MagicSystems/TotemicShamanism.aspx Hawna doesn't look like a typical shaman. In fact she looks like she's someone's mother. Which she is. She actually has three grown children. But just when she should be earning the rest she deserves, her husband was killed in an accident. Now a widow she was a bit lost. Then she made her first spirit link to a totem animal. So at her age she became an apprentice to the clan shaman. Slowly she gained acceptance of other totems and is now a full fledged shaman. Now what does she do with her life? Hawna is a mature (at least 45-50) woman who has raised a family and buried a husband. She dresses in traditional clothes (think horse nomad type society) unless it is formal where she will bring all the bling to bear. Medium height (160 cm) and well figured (70 KG) with black hair streaked with grey (Ash blond dear and I earned every lock) and grey eyes!
  14. I think also some responsibility goes to AD&D. It had elves and dwarves and hobb... err halflings. And since then EVERY fantasy roleplaying setting seemed to need them included. Role-Master--Check. Palladium--check. it wasn't until Talislanta (No Eleves for over 35 Years) that people started to gravitate to a possibility of one people with multiple cultures and beliefs, rather than if the live in mountains, they must be dwarves (Tell that to the Swiss)!
  15. So we are at the pinnacle of the bad guy pyramid. Some use dragons as their big bads, or maybe some sort of demon (like India's rakshasa). I am taking inspiration from Norse and Celtic stories and using GIANTS. So here is your base giant.... Even this Basic Package should SCARE players. The durability here is quite impressive and players would be hard pressed to face just one!
  16. As the party ran into the gatehouse, they rushed to close and bar the door in the face of the following goblyns. "Think that will stop them?" asked Chorin. "Hopefully!" answered Mikel. Then a loud ROAR rang out and Mikel and Haron both went white. Heron looked out through a spy hole "&^%*!" he exclaimed! "What?" asked Chorin. Mikel and Heron both answered "Cave Troll!" This is to scare those PCs who start to think they are unbeatable. One of these with a group of goblyns should challenge most groups. Even alone, he would be a tough opponent!
  17. Your players need something NASTIER than an ogre.... OK! And this is just the Template. Wait until you see what I can add to it!
  18. Ogre Magi are another staple in the game as well So here we have a Spell using ogre. Not as out and out deadly as the Totem Warrior above, but played right, can give the PCs a great big head ache. Give him some goblyn minions and he is now MUCH more dangerous!
  19. If there is a villain, then it needs a Hero. The Hero for NA is the second in command of the Librarians called The Seeker. Always an extremely well trained human, in the more modern age he also has a collection of items and tools to help him in his gathering. Max normal Characteristics Large Gadget Pool that he can only change at between adventures (No Gadget Skill as he has little experience in modifying, but a large collection to match what he may encounter) Some he always has: Energy pistol, Body Armour, Jet Pack, HUD with Secure Computer link to NA database, Palm computer Skills: Since some of their operations involved appropriating certain books, anything common to thief, spy. Also any type of social skill like High Society, Persuasion. Also Martial Arts as they won't always have access to their toys. Perks: Money. NA has found ways to cash in on many trends and has credit in almost all the major banks on the planet. Cash the Seeker can use if necessary!
  20. I am currently modifying an OLD Shadow World module as my home setting. It is basically a BIG island with a few areas including a LARGE inland lake (1000 km x 700 Km), a steppes area, a highland/plateau, a grasslands and a jungle area. So a lot of different climates, but I will go with Chain being the BEST and things like Leather and Studded being much more common. So Shields and Combat Luck is going to be very important. Also Normal armour will have sectional defenses and real armour limitations. Magical armour can go past this limitation (hence why it is magical) and could go higher in defense, but is still visibly chain mail (Think the Mithril shirt Frodo had. He survived a strike from a cave troll and the armour was unharmed so like 10/10 armour with no sectional as it always seemed any nasty strikes would hit the armour [like Red Sonya's bikini, but more believable])
  21. Enemies M&M Atlas Of Earth Prime had an idea that might fit. In it there was a city from another dimension called Dominion, fleeing from a war torn world. When the city showed up above a rural area in Canada, it attracted the attention of Canadian Heroes. Which was good as the city was VERY high tech, and one person on the council and guard though they should as a result take over this planet. Lets adapt this to NA. The tech in NA is anywhere 100-200 years ahead of modern times, and as a result there are some who feel that this allows them the right to rule others (for their own good). One member of the Council went even further and stole many items of tech and engineering and went into the outside world with the idea of taking it over for its own good. Since then he has been banished (and the nanites in his body have been tuned so he can not return). Now he tries to capture Librarians so he may take their learning as well as stealing tech from the outside world. Right now he is building his power base, but one day he will return to take over NA and then bring the world into the paradise it can be under his guidance! Bonus marks if you can tie this to Prof Muerte!
  22. From what I read, it is really good for a gritty city based game. Not Conan in this new spot, more Fafhard and the Grey Mouser in another adventure in Newhon. All the rest is background to a large city intrigue game!
  23. At first the citizens of New Alexandria were fine with all their advanced knowledge and their continues progress over the decades. Then came the Spanish and the leaders of NA realized that the world had progressed over the last 1000 years. They were still more advanced but they needed to get caught up with all the new knowledge. So a set of Special Operatives were set up to go out and gather any new knowledge and bring it back to NA to be incorporated into the Library. At first progress was slow as they had to go through Spanish and Portuguese Colonies which limited their movements. But soon there was a steady stream of information coming back into NA and they were making regular advances in Science, Math, Philosophy and Engineering beyond that found outside in the world. Now the Library at NA has copies of EVERY BOOK EVER PUBLISHED regardless of country. And the Librarians still go out and gather today. This was inspired by The Invisible Library series by Genevieve Cogman. It is a good series and the Librarians come across as a mix of savant mixed with a large dose of James Bond and Sherlock Holmes . These librarians should be similar to a HIGHLY trained Until Agent (200 pts +) with similar equipment. Some would even be close to Super Hero levels!
  24. First up a Totem Warrior I think a combined attack by a large boar and this monster would make most players run in fear. And this is just a basic package!
