  1. So popped into town to post a letter and transfer some money to my mum's account. Had a look at one of the book shops called W H Smith and they have a 3 CD set. Siouxsie and the Banshees rare broadcast recordings. Never saw this advertised. It must be mine ! An now it is. Popped into M+S and they had oodles of scones so I bought some. 13. Resurrection Man Carl Forbes is the last survivor of an expedition that awoke a mummy who spent its own sweet time killing all those affected by the curse. Carl managed with the help of the others and other scholars and heroes of placating or keeping the mummy at bay. He knows that one day it will kill him but for now he lives. For now. He deals with ancient mysteries and histories that primarily do not deal with shapeshifting. He cannot be killed except by the mummy or by someone who can warp reality and thus break the curse and protections around him. He is trying to help Ed as he has staved off death and Ed did not. He has also assisted Ed on some of his cases as dealing with death is one of the things the ancient Egyptians did. Some people get revolted as has no problem in dealing with corpses. But the last person who made a wise crack about it and referred to Ed Grim got an almighty beating.
  14. Quwwa From the heart of Arabia comes the strong man known as Quwwa. He can lift trucks on his own and juggle cars, that's how strong he is. The name comes from the Islamic word for power and strength. It is said that he came from The Lost City of Irem but it is known that telepaths who probe too deeply into his mind start screaming about impossible vistas and sights. He can take a monstrous amount of punishment but he also dishes it out. Mind control and mental illusions can fall straight off him but mental damage tends to get through and can incapacitate him. The hero often caught him out with traps and concealed deep pits. He teamed up with the others to remove the hero and believes his prejudices contributed to him not joining up with them earlier to stop the menace. As it is, he does not like Oskolok at all and is wary of The Golden Snake. He keeps Honey at arms length not because of any Islamic or Arab prejudice against women but because he would not undermine the Bee Czar in such an obvious and crass fashion. [EDIT: Death Tribble note, I will add details on what he thinks of the others when they are posted] Quwwa is Arabic and when in combat is stripped to the waist.

  21. First meeting of the year but I had to rush for the train there and back. Train was at 6:54 in the morning and I left the house after 6:30. Just made it. Reached Reading at 09:43 and wait for bus was not too long. Played Marvel Champions and that was a bit of a slog even with the simple scenario. Dredd was nasty. Twice tried to get into the Grand Hall of Justice only to be stopped. Came last but it was good nasty fun. Tried Kingdomino and that was interesting. I won which was surprising Had a trundle around Reading Gaol in a Rivers of London Scenario trying to stop the ghost who was the subject of Oscar Wilde's The Ballard of Reading Gaol causing havoc. And Apples to Apples was fun. There was a three way battle for the lead which was exciting. Steak and Ale pie for lunch and Crispy Cake for dessert. Also Log Cake and Champagne. Got bus back and was near station for around 20:00. Juist had time to buy KFC meal and the staff were nice before getting into station and onto train. Have more books to read for the year

  23. George Galloway wins the Rochdale by-election in Britain. The Labour candidate was disowned for anti-semetic remarks https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-68446419
  24. Homage to Catalonia by George Orwell The guy who wrote 1984 and Animal Farm went to Spain and took part in the Spanish Civil War. By his own admission he did little but he did take part and you also have a view of the infighting in the Left. Orwell was in one of the factions that was not liked by the USSR. That meant the faction would not get guns etc. Orwell suffered injury (shot in the throat) and that was how he got out. The last two chapter of the book are appendices covering the infighting and what led to it. It is a good read.
