  1. This may be a quesiton for Herodom Assembled but: I'm looking to build a scientist with a number of "lacky" robots that he controls via Mindlink. I've built them as both Followers and as Duplication (100% Different +1). My question is, besides the cost difference, is there any practical difference between the Lackies? Thanks, James.
  2. Re: The Authority:What the heck? One of the reasons I'm enjoying the current Authority run is because I do disagree with a lot of what they're doing. I think they've taken on too much, that they've lost their moral Authority, which in the first run was what made them so special. I think this is demonstrated excellently when Swift asks about the manufactured evidence against the deposed President. "We lied," Swift said. "We compromised," Midnigter returns. "Since when did we become about compromise?" Since the first time Swift killed for expediency's sake, I'd say. James Two-Gun Kid
  3. Howdy folks. I'm tenetively going to be starting a Star Hero campaign in the near future, and I was wondering if anyone could recomend a program to use to keep track of star locations. I'd love something that lets me define x,y,z coordinates for stars and log star names and boarders of stellar nations and what-not. Any ideas? Thanks, James.
  4. If you had an Uncontrolled, Sticky RKA, (fire) and you were to set aside 30 END to power it (and say it cost 2 END per phase). You hit a guy with it, and he starts to burn, paying END every time the attacker's phase comes up. When the END pool is down to 20 END, he is knocked back into another shmoe. Does the second target pick up the Uncontrolled, Sticky RKA at 30 END in the pool, or 20 END? How should this work? Thanks, James.
  5. The answer's in the FAQ. Sorry. Thanks anyway, James.
  6. If you buy a 100 -point vehicle (a sportscar) for 20 points, then pay five points for the "x2 Vehicles" could the second vehicle be a 100-point motorcycle? Or does it have to be identical? Thanks, James.
  7. Social Lim: Dinosaur I was making up some NPCs for a Champions Game last night, and was fooling around with their disadvantages. Normally, I don't sweat the details too much, relying on the infamous "Villain Bonus" to plug any holes, but I try to get close with real disadvantages. Anyway, I was making a Veloci-raptor. Just for yucks I gave him Distinctive Feature: Veloci-raptor (not concealable, major reaction) and (just to amuse myself) Social Limitation: Dinosaur. I laughed. My girlfriend's reading over my shoulder and asks what that means. I said, "It means he has trouble relating to people in normal society because he's a big freakin' lizard. I'm not sure I'd actually let a PC take it." "Why not?" she asks. And I can't come up with a good reason. It seems like double-dipping to take a big Distinctive Feature that causes an extreme reaction and a Social Lim for the same thing. What do y'all think? James.

Aliencs in Dune The Navigators were mutated humans, not aliens...though the distinction is a little fuzzy. Their changes were a by-product of spice use. The worms are technicaly aliens, I guess, depending on where you're standing, though. James.
  9. This just came up last night, and I figured I'd bounce it off you. I have a guy playing a boxer in a street-level campaign who bought double knockback on his roundhouse. In the course of the fight, he tried to line himself up so that he could knock one mook back into another. I liked it, but didn't want it to be a way to automatically do damage to two people every attack. I handled it by making it a type of sweep manuver, with a -2 OCV, but not giving a 1/2 DCV because he was only getting his STR + Martial Damage once, and the KB on two people. Can you suggest a better/more in line with the game ruling? Thank you, James.
  10. Plot Elements I've been toying running a "paranormal teen" campaign for a while...any suggestions as to plot-twists or "events" common to the genre? Most everyone I'd be playing with follows Buffy and Smallville, so their familiarity with the genre limits the content I can...(ah-hem) "borrow" from those shows. Thanks, James.

Thanks Good Call on the "No Range" for the force wall. Las guns are energy-based, so getting hit with a las-gun does take out the shield wearer...but now that you mention it, also the las-gun holder...so maybe that initial RKA should be area-of-effect as well... This is why most of the fighting in the books are done with knives and swords and what-not, because Shield technology made las-gun use a mutual-annhilation deal. Also, an active shield tends to attract and enrage near-by sandworms...but I was going to cover that in the Sandworm write-up. Thanks for chipping in, James.
  12. I was more curious about the "Why?" than the how. What was the thinking behind that? Why is one okay and not the other? No biggie, though. Thanks for answering. James.
  13. This is kind of a theory question...according to the FAQ, to buy a throwing knife you could buy HKA, Ranged, and pro-rate the STR to adjust for the advantage. Cool. Why couldn't you do the same thing with a Hand Attack? Pay 5 points per die, not apply the Required -1/2 No Range advantage, apply instead a Ranged advantage +1/2, to create "Throwing Blunt Objects" or the like? Thank you, James.
  14. I think I'm reading this right, but I want to make sure: say a char. were to buy "Autofire up to 5 shots" on his 20 STR; a) would he only have to pay END for his Strenghth once because you only have to pay for Strength once in any given phase no matter how many times you use it? b.) would the END cost be 2 END for 20 active points of strength or 3 END for 30 active point of STR plus the Advantage? Thank you, James.

I'm thinking about starting up a HERO game set in Frank Herbert's DUNE universe...and I'm playing with the idea of shields...any suggestions? The shields are a force field that stops completely physical attacks of a certain velocity or slower, blow up and cause the las(er)-gun to blow up if shot by one, and can be rendered inoperable by a huge static charge. It also makes it harder to move and perceive things while its activated I was thinking about defining it as: Force Wall (Self Only, set shape, PD: 25, Not vs. "slow" attacks, not in static fields, 0 END, OIF: Shield Generator) RKA (4d6, NND, Does Body, Trigger: Hit by Las Gun, Only to target las gun shooting it, Side Effect: [4d6 RKA, AoE: Radius] 1 charge, OIF: Shield Generator) Change Environment: (-2" Running, -3 PER rolls, 1 hex area, 0 end, persistant, linked to Force Wall, OIF: Shield Generator) The points don't really matter, I'm just trying to get a feel for game mechanics. Thanks, James.
  16. How would you do a "psychic possession" power like Deadman or Jericho from DC comics? The character would literally "step into" the target's shoes, controling him from within. Thanks in advance.
