  1. Re: Anyone use the Champs Universe Arena? One of my favorite early edition Champions adventures is The Great Supervillain Contest. I think that if the Crimson Claw (the guy running the show) could summon heroes to the arena via teleport or simple abduction, and the featured gladiator villains could try and earn their points there amid a cheering cacophany of their peers. Have NPC heroes begin to vanish from around town. It'll give the heroes someone to liberate in the finale when the heroes face the masses of villains (have all the "extras" fighting in the background). In any event, gladiatorials are typically about crowd enjoyment, entrancing the masses to a leader who gives them the bloodsport they desire, and for the prisoners it's typically about freedom and/or riches.

  3. Re: Steve's Chat Tonight (Thursday, May 11) Dang Rules Lawyers.
  4. Re: Character Curveballs I threatend to, but never actually made, the half mule, half owl named DonkeyHootie, The Mammal of La Mancha. Natually his enemies would be some kind of windmill or giant, or windmill/giant hybrid. I expect he'd do some jousting, and could probably be summoned by use of the phrase, "When Donkeys fly!"
  5. Re: Single Green Superhero seeks.... (personels for your characters) Wonder how I missed this thread the first time. Uncle Slam: Centagenarian superhero workaholic seeks durable woman with flexible schedule. Uniform a plus. Anthem: Single old-fashioned girl seeks sensitive type for traditional dating and long term relationship. Under 21 please. Audra Blue: Girl not easily impressed seeks distraction in meaningless fun.
  6. Re: Steve's Chat Tonight (Thursday, May 11) If you can't throw them then double your hijinks back!
  7. Re: Fire as an effect? Consider: Side Effect limitation, Unluck, and Power Skill. Power Skill because while you can crank your fire down to 1D6, you can't necessarily snap your fingers and generate a flame to light cigarettes unless your GM allows it.
  8. Re: Character Curveballs I don't do anything nearly that sophisticated. I have one player who runs a time traveler (in a game where I said "No time travelers or aliens" and wound up with an alien and three time travelers). He decided to buy resurrection under his heal power, so I decided to play with him a little. I created an advisor who pops in and nobody else can see (a la Quantum Leap), but he doesn't know if he can trust this person. So the advisor pops up with a grave warning about the time lines. He can't pinpoint who, but if someone in the next 24 hours gets resurrected, the timeline will become irrevocably damaged for the worse. Chaos, Disorder, Mass Hysteria, Dogs + Cats, etc. So naturally I had 3 people die that session. Sure it was mean, but it was appropriate. I thought for sure by the time we reached the third one that he'd break his self control and res them, but he held himself in check while saying OOC: "Damn you!" [Edit: Oh, and there were definitely repercussions if he rez'd the second one. I picked that one becuase I figured it was the one he was least likely to rez.)
  9. Re: As a GM, do you charge for...knick-knacks My rule is, if it's available in modern day and easily found then I don't charge for it, but it's all going to break the second you get hit by an attack. So you're better off buying radio perception than using a Cell Phone.

    W W Y G M D ??

    Re: W W Y G M D ?? Don't let that stop ya. I didn't let it stop me
  11. Re: What bizarre rules issues have you encountered? Heh. Don't remember that one. I'll have to go look in the FAQ now. I'm not sure any rules issues I've had qualify as "bizarre".

    W W Y G M D ??

Re: W W Y G M D ?? I can only sit one of these out for so long Your character approached an NPC talent agent about doing nude pics Audra Blue could do it with only the expected repercussions (Her naked pictures all over the internet; Team mates perhaps drooling). Uncle Slam would cause some kind of backlash with those who always felt he was a role model. Anthem would end up getting the publisher arrested, for reasons of age. (None of them would ever do this though, not volluntarily) What would your GM do if you came up with a solution using your powers or buying a new power that solved a major world problem that would change the environment of the game A villain would appear who could somehow counter these good works. A game is nothing without strife. What would your GM do if you choose to have your character decide to go "Rogue" and begin a life of crime? Uncle Slam would inspire a nice big firefight with the heroes trying to figure out how to bring him in. The guy is probably a hundred years old (That's lots of XP ). Audra Blue as a villain would be trouble and could stay secreted for a long time, doing her villiainy electronically and covering her tracks. Anthem would get hauled in by the team and imprisoned. She's not so tough she can avoid the heroes of the campaign. What would your GM do if your character (one without Code VS. Killing) decided that a villain was just too dangerous to live with that much power and prison obviously couldn't contain him? What if your description was good enough to make it look like self-defense? What if it was a private killing, no witnesses? Two have CvK. The other... well, the other players would see to it. The GM would not have to lift a finger. Seriously.
  13. Re: C25 deposit Having bought many things from Hero/DoJ and witnessed their business practices for several years, I can't believe how big a non-topic this thread is.
  14. Re: Yet ANOTHER WWYCD: Against your team As Uncle Slam doesn't have a team and Audra Blue would curl up in a fetal position if plucked from the the base and put in Africa, I'll use Anthem and a pinch-hitter, Bridge. Anthem would start by knocking out Orland, who isn't the toughest kid, but he's got N-Ray vision and could point her out to others. This would not be too difficult, most likely through Martial Arts manuevers. Thok is a mentalist and requires line-of-sight, so she'd use her many tricks for bouncing shurikens off of objects to nail him around corners. Rodeo Clown would be tough, as are most bricks for Anthem. She'd have to find a way to to massive damage quickly. She'd lure him to a cliff, legsweep him, and roll him off for the falling damage. Dr. Gardiner's disabled if you take out his robots really, so she'd find a place to set up pit traps and lure them in; They don't climb well. Finally, she'd have to go hand-to-hand with the Billy Ray; He does more damage but she has more defense; She'd soak most of it and eventually take him down. Bridge would have an easier time. Teleport queen, she'd blink in, grab a foe and port out again, dropping them from up high, into isolated areas, into the sea, etc. Not the tactic you want to take with Mercury, whose STR is huge; She'd go with her ranged attacks that open a portal through which objects fall onto her foe. She'd have to play keep away mostly because short of grabbing him and teleporting into an object (which would kill her too), she'd have an impossible time taking him down. On him a stalemate is the best she could hope for.
  15. Re: HISTORY CHANNEL ROCKS for plot seeds I'm not a big reader of biographies or historical books, so the History Channel is virtually my only source of History.
  16. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? The new Tool CD. While it hasn't grown on me yet, I've got to say that it was worth it for the CD packaging! Coolest.... packaging.... EVAR! (It includes little built in 3D viewer and book of 3d pages).
  17. Re: A Thread for Random Videos Yep, he definitely makes videos for a living
  18. Re: WWYCD: 9/11/2001 Lost in a world without Supers and your team is with you. All depends on proximity. If they're in the campaign city, my most effective hero, Uncle Slam would be least effective here, as he's solo, and on a foreign world he wouldn't have PRIMUS connections to fall back on. He'd fly like nobody's business but be too late to get there. If he was closer to the sites than the campaign city is, he could probably save the two at the trade center and try to notify the FAA of the other two. Audra Blue would hack into the Air Traffic Control computers and force the planes to stay on the ground while she dug for evidence and sent it to the FBI. Anthem would use team-mate, Bridge to get from site to site to disable the terrorists. The other two heroes would do all this without any thought to affecting timelines, but she would be the only one of the three who would for a second think about how maybe the flights were destined to go down; Because this was the impetus for freeing all those people in Afghanistan and crippling the Taliban. But she'd stop them anyway, because if somebody could have stopped it on her world, she'd want them to. She'd relish the victory, but be certain the lesson was learned by the government so they could do what was right.
  19. Re: WWYCD: Illegal Worker Teen Anthem would suggest they apply (in secret id) for their green card and if there are any problems she'd try to put in a good word. Uncle Slam would run a security check and then with one of a great many favors owed him he'd see to it they were ok'd for citizenship. Audra Blue would hack into the INS database and ok them herself. She's got no conscience when it comes to doing right.
  20. Re: WWYCD: The rest of the world's Supers just changed sex. I explain to them the switcheroo. It's likely that my character(s) have been swapped with a duplicate who is having the very same discussion back in the character's home dimension. He/She/They would seek the assistance of the indigenous heroes in getting home.
  21. Re: WWYCD - a deal with an extradimensional sadistic entity I should have been clearer. I can't imagine a hero in my campaign world that would go along with this. I wasn't intending to speak for other players here, or Marvel/DC et al, for that matter. They're all going to react pretty much the same, though the only one with the connections to go where this culprit is and take him on head-on is probably Uncle Slam. Always gotta take the fight to them; Fighting at home is not an advantage with invaders. Detroit taught him that.

  24. Re: From My Champion Clixs Collection Always happy to gape and whince at the crafting skills of others. I especially like Dr. Silverback Damn but he's cool. I haven't done any modding in a couple weeks; Mostly because I found so many unpainted regular minis that I decided it was time to hop to it. (I'm frightened to find I have 600+ miniatures now; And i've only been using minis about 6 years)
