As someone who came late to the 6th edition party I can totally see the hate for the 2 tomes that make up the core books.  When I started to consider moving from 5th to 6th I was completely lost with regards to what books to even buy.  I had to ask on these forums for suggestions on what people deemed critical.  I'm glad I did because I ended up up getting some really good advice.

The single best piece of advice I was given was that all you really need to run is the "Complete" books.  I've read both Champions and Fantasy Complete cover to cover, no exaggeration.  They are really all you need to run a game, yes they are missing a setting but from a rules standpoint they are all you need.  I have the core books as PDFs only because they were unavailable to me from the site store at the time.  I open them up once and awhile, usually during character creation or after a game to look up rule I'm not familiar with...that's it.  I would never read them cover to cover unless I had them in print anyways but I would only read them cover to cover for my own personal edification not because I felt they were mandatory reading to play.

I treat them like Encyclopedias (God, I'm dating myself) in that they're good to have on hand for reference and research but I don't feel the need to read them when more concise and digestible books exist that give me what I need.  I don't hate them because they're dry or not what I think they should have been.

It does support 5th or 6th edition rules out of the box.  I believe it defaults to 6th but can be switched to 5th in the settings area of the app.

The note regarding 6th edition is for the H.E.R.O tool only.  It was created for 5th edition only.  Everything else should flip between editions when you toggle that setting.

+1 for HERO in 2 pages...there's also this - https://www.herogames.com/files/file/367-fantasy-hero-primer/ - it's written specifically for fantasy but there's lots of good stuff in general for the HERO System within.

This project is an extension of an export template I wrote a few months ago.  I had so much fun writing that template that I decided to develop a full app.

    Features
Import characters from Hero Designer using this export template Characteristics and Skills may be long pressed and a check will be made Dice rolling tools (3d6, Hit, Damage, and Free Form)  The H.E.R.O. tool generates random 250 point 5e supers (shout out to Cassandra for allowing me to use her original idea) Track statistics about your die rolls, including average values, distribution, total stun etc.
This is still very much a work in progress and I have plans to add more features as time goes on.  For now though I feel that it’s mature enough to release to the general public.

Feedback is always welcome either here or at phil.guinchard@gmail.com

    Happy Hero-ing

Barring some marketese somewhere that I don't know about probably the best place for screenshots and features is the documentation itself.

I think it largely depends on the genre for me.  In games where you're expecting players to pay for everything in points, wealth definitely becomes a flavor tool.  That said, a trip on the private plane across the ocean is no big deal, but if it becomes an every day thing I would make them pay points for it.

In games where equipment is being used (Heroic, usually) then wealth becomes much more prone for abuse.  The character can simply buy potentially game unbalancing gear and services when needed.  Like a lot of things in this game it comes down to trust between the GM and the players that things won't be abused.

I've just been using Notepad++ for my export templates.  It's a nice solid editor that I use when I don't feel like using an IDE or in my case spinning up a VM for development.  I do all of my development in VMs at home now, I find that it just makes things easy for me...I don't even think I have an IDE installed on my base machine anymore!

Heck, I had pretty much abandoned the system. It IS the system that I know the best. So when the players wanted to play Supers, it was the game I chose.

We are running a beginning 6e Champions Game.

    Dex 18, SPD 5, DC10 (62 active), CV 7 as our averages.
    So Skill levels (yet)

The PCs are the newest hosts for Beings that are Iconic for a character type.

I want to thank everyone for their patience with this project, its been years I have worked on it and been trying to promote and keep people interested.  I know that its tough to keep interest up in a product line when its so long between updates and releases.  I hope to have another out by the end of the year (a adventure module) and the following year I'll be working on putting out the Players Guide for making characters and play in the world.  Then next on the agenda is another adventure, and then the Master Guide for running games in the Jolrhos setting.  Down the road are a treasure book and another volume of the bestiary planned for release.  I hope I can get these all done, and done in a timely manner.  When its all said and done, people will have a complete campaign setting with adventures to play in it ready to pick up and run with.

Somewhere in the mix I want to get that Champions Begins project done and a Fantasy Hero Begins one as well.  Thankfully unlike the Jolrhos setting, other people can pitch in and help with writing and building those.

I'm making an RTF version as I write this...better for formatting and cuts out an extra step.

sentry0 got a reaction from Brian Stanfield in Full Characteristics Block Export Template
That's a nice one but it's not quite what I'm looking for...there are a couple of minor things that don't quite match up to the FCB write ups for 6e.  I'm piecing this together based on the writers guidelines for 5th and the tweaked format for 6th.

I'm going to post my modded version...it's just a text export but you can copy/paste/modify it and it cleans up nice in a word processor.  I have the whole process down to about 5 minutes now

See if it gets you what you want. It's like the stat blocks in the 5e books. Spence also uploaded one that's exactly like the character sheet in the back of the books as well.

I encountered the "unspecified error" while trying to unpack the MHI Character pack for Hero Designer, after a bit of frustrated searching discovered that the Windows 10 default compressed file management doesn't deal well with the compression format the charpacks use.  I downloaded 7-zip, extracted the files where I wanted them with no issues.

Only posting on here because I never found (easily anyway) anyone else's experience that talked about that.
