The Doc Sidhe books by Arron Allston were excellent if not exactly superhero novels. It was more a cross between fantasy and the Doc Savage pulps.

Most of my heroes are pretty pragmatic. They'd ask the their team tech to teach them how to bank online and giggle all the way home.

Does your character have a hobby? Blow the point on being an expert in it. This is not a foolish idea, it is part of role-playing. When the GM asks that fateful question at the begining of an episode, " What's your character doing right now?" Don't you want to have a better answer than "I dunno." Consider the person you've created, and figure out what they might enjoy spending their off time doing. Your GM will thank you for the odd ideas that may come to them for sessions.

When building a character I like to work from the inside out. Meaning that a lot of the time I've got a better idea of the personality of the guy than of how to write up the powers. I've been kidded that in the middle of a game I'm the only one who knows the color of his character's socks. What all this means is that for me part of writing up is to have a list of skills that I know may never come up in game but I think add flavor to the roll play. Also when every once in a while when one PC being a guitarist or another who's a Houdini buff comes up in session it's a little treat like an episode of TV where you see that favorite character/actor of yours sing, or juggle or something. The next time you're finishing a write-up and have a point or two left over, instead of just tossing them into a stat you'll raise up to an effective number later, consider what this person does when their not saving the city.

For the first timers, do yourselves a favor and BEFORE the con, hit a pharmacy and pick up vitamins or the little packs of multiple vitamins. Also get a strong daytime cold reliever that won't have you out on your feet. Cons are incredible breeding ground for illness so don't forget the hand sanitizer. Then off to the supermarket to the aisle with those breakfast bars. Make sure to get the ones that are high fiber and protein for mid day snacking and to keep away that sugar-crash feeling. I also like getting a container of dry Gatorade mix to add to my walk around water bottle before I leave the room. Something other than plain (or nasty tasting) water and electrolytes to help balance off the sweat loss from overheated crowds and possibly bulky costumes.

How did it all work out?

I made a mistake about scheduling!!!!! They play EVERY OTHER WEEK!!!! Also last weekend was the Arisia Sci-Fi Convention, there may be some schedule juggling going on. Send an E-mail to the GM mentioned in the online schedule to make sure you don't end up showing up to an empty room. Let me know when you see this.
