Re: Why Your Heroes Shouldn't Kill
I liked the way there were consequences for that action, Erkenfresh.I've never been as convinced as some that killing can't be 'heroic,' though.
It's not very 'Four Color Super Heroic,' that's for sure. But if I were a super hero in a world where devastatingly powerful super villains recurrently escaped from custody after every time I stopped them, only to wreak more havoc once again, causing more property damage and probably loss of innocent lives, I might give a lot of thought to 'finishing off' those villains once and for all, if I found any of them unconscious at my feet after yet another battle.
And I'm not sure, under those circumstances and given those assumptions, doing so could not be considered 'heroic.'
I'm surprised there's not an anti-hero who specializes in taking those guys out.

Re: Team Building
In my most team-oriented game, the characters broke up the costs: The guy who wanted a vehicle made it a little bigger so he could take the team with him, the playgirl based the team in the secret floor under her penthouse, the inventor made communication devices for everybody. The other two basically got a free ride. I'll grant, it was luck having three players willing to spend their own points for the stuff, but everyone was happy. It helped that they were veteran Champions players. My current group is 'why do we have to pay points for a building anyway?' I have introduced them to the zero-point HQ, built entirely from disadvantages. I believe they're coming around.

Re: You Don't Have to be Crazy to be a Superhero, but it Helps!
I think mutants represent something beyond themselves that's fundamentally different from most people with powers. 'It's midnight. Do you know what your children are?'
They are homo superior. Each one is a reminder that homo sapiens is on the way out. In the long run, it's them or us. Demographic trends say the USA will be majority mutant by 2060, it'll be too late to stop them then! Who is more likely to take your job, an Avenger or a Morlock who can see in the dark or do the work of a forklift?

Looking forward to seeing how that side note comes out, too. Repped for your body of work!

Re: Rifts HERO?
Welcome, aidanleer. I agree, those stats would reflect Rifts Horror Factor and PPE/ISP pretty well. A matter of taste, really.

Re: Things That Go Bump in the Night
Y'know, although I have the DH material, the book is starting to sound like something I would want to have even so.

Re: In Progress From Blackwyrm Games: Mythic America
I like that the Warehouse 13 'lightning pistols' are referred to as 'Teslas'.

Re: 4th String Villians Yeah!
Has anyone here delibertly created a 4th string villian for there campain? If so' date=' how did it go?[/quote']I built The Revenge Syndicate out of public domain villains: the Black Rat, Dr. Riddle, the Hyena, Madam Serpina, the Murder Prophet, and the Weeper. The players loved 'em. The Weeper actually appeared in a B&B episode.

Re: Things That Go Bump in the Night
You are correct Zen Archer, 5th edition with what I liked best about 6th edition added.

Re: Things That Go Bump in the Night
It sounds great, but I already have most of the material and game in what you might call 5.1.

Re: Horror Hero
I'm running something similar, a setting superficially similar to a Champions setting, but more like Urban Fantasy underneath. Vampires and their ilk find costumes a way to cut loose in public without 'breaking the Masquerade', which is more devoted to scatter-shooting so many other plausible explanations for things that it seems like a kitchen sink world like Marvel or DC. Even the supernatural types can't be sure anymore that their worldview is the only explanation for super powers. Humans being what they are, plenty of them are participating in the sub-culture, with varying degrees of success. The players didn't initially realize what sort of game they were in, but it's come out and I'm starting to lead them down the rabbit hole of what that implies. For instance, someone who seems to be a hero is much more likely in this setting to just be using the heroic identity as a front to work out grudges or line up future meals.

Re: Have you written a story?
I know this is necro-threading, but I just read Sparrow's Flight and was blown away by how good it was. I wish I had bought it new, QuerySphinx deserves more royalties, IMHO.

Wasn't Starlet a character from the Wings of the Valkyrie time travel adventure?

Re: Your "2011" Pet Gaming Projects
Dark Champions (?): Cursed Columbia. Pulp Urban Fantasy Champions. I started a thread asking for suggestions in the Dark Champions board.Didn't start this yet, got distracted by something involving a dimensional invasion by super-powered cowboys.
Done a lot of the preliminary work, for sure in 2012.

Re: CHAMPIONS BEYOND -- What Do *You* Want To See?
Looking forward to seeing this. I noticed the new Star Hero is out, but I'm not likely to buy. My experience so far has been that it will mainly just be a translation of 5th ed. Star Hero to 6th. Not worth the price of a HB book. Champions Beyond should fill that hole in my existence.

Re: Super hero one liners
When a villain is monologing:"Less talking, more hitting!"
(Shamelessly stolen from Hawkgirl on LJU)
Power Girl, leading the JSA: 'Less chatter, more shatter!'

Re: Crimefighter Template
Yeah, take the template and add a gimmick weapon and there you go, instant villain (or hero). Monday it's Moon Man with his Moon Ray Gun; Tuesday it's Lasso Lucy; Wednesday there's Trick Shooter; Thursday is Huntsman with his pack of trained wolves; Friday we have Bolero and his spinning bolos of doom; Saturday is Yo Mama and her razor-edged yoyos, and Sunday everyone takes off.
Batmen and Green Arrows of the world are good illustrations of taking the same basic character type and just varying the themes.

Re: Crimefighter Template
Handy, in some settings there are a dozen of these types for every one with real super powers. In Green Arrow, Buckeye and Virago were created just to be murdered by Onomatopoeia, with an implication that most cities have one or two of these sorts and you just never hear about them because it's Detroit or LV instead of Gotham or LA. Without extras and maybe toning down some of the characteristics a bit, you've got a serviceable sidekick. And why are crimefighters more likely to have sidekicks? Because you can take a fairly normal kid whose smart and athletic and train them to be your successor. Because a kid like that can become a crimefighter if he or she can convince one to take them as an apprentice.
Just some thoughts on non-powered crimefighters. In a world where some people have super powers and become super heroes, there will be some people who won't let not having powers stop them from trying to carry on the same fight.

Re: Western Hero
I'm running a 5.5 game with a Weird West feel. It's a real mashup, inspired by Deadlands, Nightbane, an episode from some SF anthology or another I can't remember the name of, and of course, the old Western Hero. Cole Younger is sentenced to the mines to dig up a mineral with alchemical properties called eldricite. It's a death sentence, no one lasts more than a few years in the eldricite mines. Nine years later, Cole comes out with strange (and somewhat contagious) powers, he has become a 'Dust Devil'. Over a hundred years later, the Dust Lords (each over a century old, much more powerful than newer Dust Devils) rule a world ravaged by their vast powers and bitter conflicts. The immortal Cole turns his attention to a parallel earth with more advanced technology where events unfolded without his interference.
The earth is being invaded by super-powered cowboys from another dimension.

Re: Rifts HERO?
The darn thing about symbiotes is their downsides. On the plus side, the extra disads help pay for the damnable things.

Re: Team Building
That's a valid choice, and I've done it before. If the base and the vehicle are for the GM's convenience, maybe you shouldn't make the players pay for it.
