Jeffrywith1e got a reaction from Hermit in Unpopular Opinion Challenge
I love this movie. The first 10 - 15 minutes is amazing example of editing. You get the whole complete mythology of Speed Racer during his run to beat his brother's time record. Amazing storytelling.

I agree with them on Mars Attacks, Tank Girl, Hackers, Johnny Mnemonic, Stargate, Hudsucker Proxy, Men in Tights, and Heart and Souls.
Especially Hudsucker Proxy! It's my favorite Coen Brothers film, which is a very difficult spot to get.

Ok. Here's one...
Speed Racer (2008, 40% on RT)
I think folks saw the name Wachowski attached to it and figured it would be some uber serious Matrix movie but with the IP layered on thin like make up. Instead, it was true to the source material, kid friendly, and fun. A visual treat , not just with bright lights, but scene swaps that harkened to the old japanimation (IIIRC).
And with elements of the classic hero's journey. In the end, Speed Racer's innocence is tested, but he makes it through with his integrity intact thanks to support from friends and family and a never say die attitude.
Racer X was played beautifully by Matthew Fox and I swear the guy screamed superhero material in all the right ways.
And the state of ninja quality decay is mentioned in movie!
I'm going to say this... this movie achieved what it was trying to, it stayed close to the source material, and it looked great doing it. It is a GOOD movie!
There, that's probably unpopular with some

And also, apparently, of Hayao Miyazaki's Sherlock Holmes. (Although the master left the series fairly early in its run....)

Sherlock Holmes: Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law star as Holmes and Watson in a movie directed by Guy Ritchie. It's been a number of years since I've seen this, and the story and characterizations are enjoyable. (Netflix DVD.com Blu-ray)

Jeffrywith1e got a reaction from Chris Goodwin in Welcome to Hero Forum - Please Introduce yourself (especially Lurkers)
Hello.
Totally new to Hero. I've had a copy of the Danger International boxset scored at a Half Price Books on my shelf for years and just now started to dig into it. Came from primarily d20 gaming, have a healthy collection of GURPS, and am now going down the rabbit hole of Hero.
How did you come up with your 'handle' (forum name)?
Its a play on words from a lyric of a song from the Pixies
What was the first tabletop RPG you GMed?
Star Wars d6. Then Top Secret/S.I. (mom was too scared of D&D to allow that satanic crap in our house)
What was the first tabletop RPG you Played?
TSR Marvel
What are you currently Playing/GMing?
In a strongly devoted d20 group playing Pathfinder.
When did you start to play Hero?
I have yet to start. Looking at it as maybe the home system for my family.

Jeffrywith1e reacted to Killer Shrike in What would you like to see HERO games produce next?
A lite-hero book similar to Basic Hero or Sidekick, priced to sell. I intro'd way more people to the Hero System successfully using those books than by any other means combined. I used to buy 5-10 at a time and give them away. If the game isn't gaining new players, it's dying. The way to get new players is by lowering the bar / making the product more accessible, available, and attainable.

Jeffrywith1e reacted to Brian Stanfield in Hero Designer Character Pack: Fantasy Hero—6th Edition
The HD pack for Fantasy Hero is pretty extensive, and from what I can tell includes pretty much everything you see in the Fantasy Hero 6e book. I have all kinds of templates for races, professions, cultural backgrounds, weapons and armor, and all of the magic systems. It is totally worth getting if you plan on building a lot of things from templates.
