Scott Baker got a reaction from Joe Walsh in 2022 Q2 Notes From The Publisher
Super late to the show, but, as a long time Patron--and have to go pledge for Hero--I believe that currently the total shown is supposed to be an estimate of what the creator will receive after all of their fees, etc.
Steve is also correct that you can contribute $1 or more if you want to, which will also affect the total shown. It can also happen that someone will sign up at a particular pledge level and then give more. So those totals never did line up, even when they were showing the actual pledge amounts.

You purchased HD on the old site software (we changed to the current software at the end of 2013) -- no purchase history was carried over from the old software to the new, only the forums made the transition.

When you bought HD, it was being sold under a support contract model, where you would get updates for 2 years before having to renew your support contract (yours has LONG since expired).

When we switched to the new site software, we changed to a straight sales model -- purchasing HD will give you access to all updates released for that major version (there are no current plans for a major version upgrade). The cost to purchase HD was (intentionally) kept the same as the previous cost to renew your support contract ($25).

You need to run Hero Designer from the command line.

javaw -jar HD6.jar [font size] for example, the following would set the default font size throughout the application to 18pt:
    javaw -jar HD6.jar 18

Greetings fellow HERO System fans! I know these updates should happen more often; and I’ll try to improve upon that. But for now, here’s what’s going on with Hero Games and the HERO System at the end of 2022.

    1) First of all, if you haven’t joined our Patreon account (https://www.patreon.com/hero_games), please consider doing so. By becoming patron you will not only help fund the creation of of new books, but also gain the ability to review and comment upon unreleased material before it becomes available to the public. Right now we have a little more than fifty patrons; but I envision Hero Games having more like one hundred in 2023. Then we would be really “cooking with gas,” in terms of getting manuscripts turned into books more expediently.

And I really prefer Patreon for Hero Games as a crowdfunding method over Kickstarter, IndieGoGo, or any of the other platforms. Though that is admittedly a personal preference.

    2) Have you seen our Champions Complete bundle on Roll20 (https://roll20.net/)? It has everything you need to play Champions with your friends online, including all of the material from Champions Complete and Champions Begins usable in Roll20.

    3) Carlos and I got in a proof for Thomas Stadley’s new champions universe organization book Institute For Human Advancement: Pride & Prejudice, and there were some issues. So we’ve made some changes, resubmitted it, and I have a new proof on the way to me right now. If everything checks out, we should have that book available in the Hero Games store, DriveThruRPG, Amazon, Indie Press Revolution, and at a game store near you.

    4) With Christopher Hackler’s Gaslight: Horror & Heroism in the Victorian Era having been through the Patreon account, Carlos and I have begin editing and laying it out. We’ll be presenting finished chapters on Patreon before taking it to print early next year.

    5) Steven Otte’s Heroes In A Hurry is currently being run through the account. It is in nearly final form, and will go straight to press afterward.

    6) Michael Satran’s final work Imperial Throne has been reviewed by fans on the Patreon account, and the response has been quite positive. Carlos and I will begin work on that when we’re done with Gaslight.

    7) We will continue to put out chapters from renowned game designer Scott Bennie’s final novel The Last Orc, at which point I’ll copy edit it in preparation for publication sometime in 2023.

    8. We’re going to start putting up chapters of Phil Guinchard’s Gemini System soon. It’s a genre-agnostic game heavily influenced by the Hero System and OpenD6; and, like Champions Now, is the sort of experiment we’d like for you to see.

That’s all I can think of here at the end of 2022. As always, if you have a Hero Games manuscript, email me at jason@herogames.com and let me know.

As for taking a puddle jumper through, I don't remember that happening either. But the Goa'uld took gliders, etc. through. Actually, thinking about it, there was even one ship type they took through, but I don't remember which one off-hand.

The Show was a genre mashup of the very popular Super Spy which was ruling TV at the time and of course Westerns which had always been popular. It was a very well done show with great characters and good writing. It would have stayed on the air longer, but IIRC Ross Martin (Artemus Gordon) had a heart attack and couldn't continue.

It's great RPG fodder esp if the players are into the Wild West and are looking for something different than the regular Western Storylines. As an RPG it could be fun doing a mashup between this show and Mission Impossible(Tv Show over the Movies). Where the players are "Secret Service" agents who unravel plots put there by enemies of the US Government. Give it all a slight Steampunk veneer with some fantastic critters tossed in to keep it interesting. You have the Gun Fighter, the Disguise expert, Demolitions expert, Faceperson, Technician. etc. Keep the character types spy feeling, but give it a western spin/flavoring

Scott Baker reacted to death tribble in Wild Wild West (TV Series)
The Wild Wild West TV series is being repeated on the CBS Action channel in the UK. Now I never saw this at all growing up (3 TV channels until the start of the 1980s then a fourth and fifth followed by the satellite ones), so I had no reference at all for it until the Will Smith and Kevin Kline disaster of a film.

The TV series on the other hand is really quite a joy and perfect for Pulp. Granted there are no aircraft but you have virtually everything else and it strikes me as a goldmine for taking ideas. Dr Loveless is a great recurring villain and his escapes fit the mood.
One of the episodes just aired had a prototype tank, forty years before they were first employed.
There are also a variety of death traps for the heroes to evade which are just as relevant to the 1870s steampunk as they can be to the 20s and 30s.
The writers also made certain that a seeming disability such as blindness did not deter people from being effective villains.

So I would encourage people to look it up and pillage it for ideas.

Changes to a long-standing character don't bother me in principle. Times change, people's expectations change, it's fair for these characters to evolve with the times. I'm bothered by changes to the fundamental qualities of a character who has remained very popular literally for generations. There's a reason why that character appealed to people for so long.

Before he was ever given the MoS director's position, Zack Snyder was on record as not liking the character of Superman. IMO that should not be the person directing a movie about Superman. I liked Man of Steel, and I was willing to accept its somber tone as a path to Superman discovering who he really is and his purpose in life. I don't feel like my acceptance was rewarded in BvS. To me it looks like Snyder still doesn't like Superman.

Yeah as I've said many times before, people who don't like Superman loved the new movies.  People who were actual fans, hated them.

Its like having a James Bond movie where he's a boat rental agent in Hawaii who has adventures saving sharks from nets and its all exciting and epic.  People who know nothing about James Bond might love it but fans will yell what the hell was that crap???

You can make the movies Snyder made, just don't make them about established characters with over a half century of lore.
Its okay to make some changes for the shift in media and your story.  Thor without red hair?  OK, meh.  Thor without a hammer, from Brazil, who solves crimes with his buddies Rick and TC in a helicopter?  No.

I don't see this pattern at all: there are too many counter-examples.

Larry Niven's Pak Protectors: more than a little war-like.

Traveller's Ancients: destroyed themselves in a civil war. Not peaceful.

Babylon 5's elder races, the Shadows and the Vorlons: most definitely Not peaceful.

Alastair Reynold's Inhibitors from the Revelation Space series: Extremely far from peaceful.

Stephen Baxter's Xeelee from Vacuum Diagrams and other novels in the Xeelee Sequence: You're joking right?

H.P. Lovecraft's... oh never mind. You get the point.
