  1. Asclepius

Ellis Brand is the CEO and administrator for Harmony Medical Management, one of the largest health care providers in the country. Ellis is notorious for putting profit first and patients health second and has been the target of several lawsuits and investigations by the HHS.

Then the eclipse happened and he found himself transformed into a veritable god of healing. In his hero form he can mend wounds, cure disease and even reverse the ill effects of aging to a degree.  Asclepius is also an advocate for widespread change in the health care system which puts Harmony in financial jeopardy.

Ellis has tried to suppress the transformations through various drugs, hypnosis, and even consulted a supposed mage. None of these worked and he has grown paranoid that his secret will be revealed and cause him to lose the backing of the board and stockholders.

  2. Oskolok

When a meteor landed in the Ural Mountains a group of scientists were dispatched with a military escort to investigate. Amongst the soldiers was Corporal Marat Tsurov. The group discovered the meteor was a sphere of metal. As the scientists began to study it, the sphere suddenly began to shift and change shape before sending out metal shards that killed everyone except for Tsurov. He barely survived and after he was evacuated to a hospital a splinter of the metal was found to be lodged in his brain. As the medical staff attempted surgery to remove it, the metal expanded from the wound and formed protective armor around Tsurov and he quickly dispatched all those around him.

The days that followed saw Tsurov clash with the military and Russian super team the Protectorate. He managed to hold his own with his nearly indestructible armor and ability to shape and control it into weapons.

He would later begin terrorizing Eastern Europe under his new name Oskolok. His consciousness appears to have merged with the alien substance and is no longer fully human. He seeks to conquer those around him and recover the metal object that part of him emerged from. During his exploits he clashed with other members of the Eight in their activities and was bested by the hero several times. He reluctantly allied with the others and sees them more as pawns and means to an end than true allies.

  3. Ed Grim the Undead Detective

Ed Grimaldi was a homicide detective working a case involving a series of ritualistic murders in New Orleans. He was betrayed and killed by his partner who was secretly in service of the killer they were investigating named Baron Kriminel. Kriminel then raised Grimaldi as a zombie servant.

He acted as an undead soldier for Kriminel until a voudou bokor named Brother Semdi freed his soul. Ed stayed in control of his body as he still had the will to fight evil in this world instead of passing on to the next.

He now acts a sort of private detective dealing with cases involving the occult. He has tangled with the likes of the Romany Witch Lavinia, the Cajun cannibal Crowe clan, Kristoff the Lycan King, and the grave robbing ghoul Rictus.

He has learned to mitigate the complications that come with being an animated corpse through various magical techniques, but it is still a struggle. He faces these problems with a snarky attitude, gallows humor and wry wit.

  4. Bee Czar

Graham Hawthorne III was born into wealth, largely due to the variety of products produced by the Hawthorne Honey brand his family created. However tragedy struck when a tainted line of product led to damaging lawsuits and a worse reputation to the public. Hawthorne was devastated by this both financially and mentally. He had paranoid delusions that competitors had sabotaged the company and began a twisted series of revenge attacks that were honey and bee based. Soon he would make his new villainous identity known to the world.

He had some success building a small empire and acquired his girl friday in the form of Honey. However he would find defeat at the hands of his heroic rival over and over. Joining forces with his fellow villains seemed like the solution and he believes it was his master plan all along, despite the lack of facts to back that up.

He is looked down upon by most of the Eight as a bit of a fool, but he has proven effective with his various honey traps and swarm of killer bee drones. Honey is actually believed to be the more dangerous and cunning of the pair, and is watched more closely by the rest of the team for the possibility of a takeover attempt.

  5. New team: Curse Breakers

    Minimum: 4

Individuals who have been cursed, but have managed to deal with it in some manner. They now dedicate themselves to helping others who have been cursed and battle evil curse users or creatures.

  6. Thunder Thighs

Babette LaFleur was participating in a lumberjack competition in Montreal when she was caught under a falling tree and had her legs crushed. The superhero Mighty Mountie was making an appearance at the event and had attempted to save her, but was too late. While she was recovering she was approached by the Mighty Mountie's nemesis Doctor Sigmund Fiend. He twisted her mind into believing Mountie was to blame for her injuries. He promised her the chance for revenge and she took him up on his offer.

Fiend replaced her legs with powerful cybernetics and she gained the ability to perform strong kicks, earth shaking stomps and to leap high in the air for a devastating dive bomb attack.

After tangling with the Mountie unsuccessfully on many occasions she decided on a change of scenery and relocated to the United States. She worked solo for a short time before being recruited by Phantom Limb as one of the Legs for his team.

    New Team: The Limbs

These villains brought together by the sinister Phantom Limb, a psionic Mastermind who gained his powers when a invention he was creating exploded and destroyed his normal arms and legs. Each member represents a limb in the human body, with the Phantom Limb himself acting as the chest.

Nice to see he is keeping busy after the Venture Bros cancelation. 😀

  8. I don't have an active campaign so these are just some general musings.

Miss Innocent would be introduced after mind controlling an associate of one of the heroes. This would play out with the heroes eventually seeing her as someone to be reformed and turned to the side of good.

Winterblade would be a minor villain that is bested by the heroes while committing a robbery but would develop into a rival of one hero in particular, especially if they are a speedster. He would keep popping up to antagonize the hero and their team possibly joining forces with other villains for strength in numbers.

Professor Hyde would be a major villain in the campaign with Blackhead acting as his henchmen. He is responsible for other creations that plague the heroes over time or an epidemic in the main city where his drugs turn the population into monsters. He would also inflict one or more of the heroes with his drugs after capturing them, leading to a quest for a cure.

I'd hate it even more when it's abbreviated.  Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a thing.

Somehow that didn't occur to me. I could change it...but nahhh. 😀

Maybe that refers to a mission where she was accidentally swallowed by someone and her subsequent exit was unpleasant for both parties.

  10. I.B.S(Itsy Bitsy Spider)

Rani Kapoor owned a small electronics firm that was driven out of business by Millstone Mechanical Systems. She broke into one of their facilities to commit sabotage, but ended up stealing plans for a protype four armed exoskeleton. She modified it and began a campaign of revenge against MMS. Satisfied after damaging the company she became a thief known by the name Steal Spider.

One of her jobs for the criminal organization The Commission saw her acquire a size changing device. She decided to keep it for herself and incorporated it into her exoskeleton. The Commission did not take kindly to this and she ended on the run for her life. She joined Nursery Crimes to give her safety and strength in numbers.

She can shrink herself down to the size of a small spider and was this renamed Itsy Bitsy Spider, a name she loathes. She acts as the team's infiltration expert and spy. Her exoskeleton has cable launchers, can climb walls, have great strength, and a variety of other gadgets to aid  in her operations.

  11. Blood Rush

Tommy Yuen was just trying to find an aid leading up to his college exams. Hyde gave him a drug that boosted his adrenaline output. It enhanced his senses, speed and strength to near superhuman levels. It also greatly increased his aggression. His addiction to the drug and his personality change drove away his friends and family and led him back to Hyde and his growing crew of underlings.

He usually wears a black tracksuit with red stripes down the arms and legs and black fingerless gloves. When he is at his peak power the whites of his eyes go red as his blood vessels expand. He is usually the first into combat using his gymnastics background to flip around the enemy and land fast powerful strikes. He then gets clear so Blackhead can attack with his projectile blast on a weakened target.

Unbeknownst to Yuen, one of his former friends made contact with the masked martial artist vigilante Shadowmoon to try to track him down and help him reform and get clean.

  12. Spring Shoe O'Sullivan

A crackpot inventor and flimflam man who sold his "miraculous" gadgets and gizmos to the citizens of Clown Town. His gimmicks always end up failing in dangerous ways and would require KO Klown to come to the rescue of the poor suckers tricked by the conniving con man.

He was inspired partly by the legend of Spring-heeled Jack and medicine show shysters. He was considered a minor character and only made one appearance in the shorts and returned briefly in the comics. He still managed to somehow break through the weakened dimensional barrier, but was easily defeated and hasn't been seen since.

O'Sullivan wears a garish emerald green suit, bowler hat, a loud orange vest and bow tie. He is thin and sports slicked backed red hair and a handlebar mustache.

As his nickname indicates his main gimmick is his spring-loaded shoes that allow him to leap great distances, but he would eventually lose control and careen around chaotically. He had other contraptions that were often Rube Goldberg type machines that ultimately performed mundane functions.

  13. Grimstone

Miles Stone was a struggling actor attempting to make it big in Hollywood in the the 60s, but he never did. Instead he would find success as a producer and eventually started a successful studio in Milestone Pictures. A string of box office bombs in the mid 80s led him to make a gamble. He leveraged his remaining assets in create a suit of power armor and used it to create a hero to build a franchise around. He cast a young up and coming actor and former stuntman Cameron Cross in the role and Silverstone was born. Cross had some success against some low level street crime, but he needed a worthy nemesis. Stone had a similar suit of power armor made and wore it himself as Grimstone. He loved getting to use his acting skills as the over the top character and it fed his ego. He committed some minor crimes to build up his reputation before setting up a battle with Silverstone. Unfortunately the armor Cross wore malfunctioned and he was killed. The entire ruse was exposed and Stone was ruined and arrested. His reputation was destroyed.

After serving his time he spiraled into depression and this became anger. He used some connections he had made in prison and set up a heist to retrieve his confiscated armor. He operated with mild success at first, but ultimately fell to various heroes. He ended up a bitter broken man when Timelapse made his offer.

Now young and granted a second chance he created a new identity and returned to Hollywood to once again rule the industry. However, the game had changed. He was lost in the current world of entertainment, a young face, but a head full of old ideas and ideals. He was crushed. He turned back to the only thing he knew he could still do...play the villain.

  14. Ape Alexander The Simian Samaritan

Mr. Speed found he could alternate his vibrational frequency to travel to alternate versions of Earth. On one of these trips he discovered a planet where apes evolved from men! He was able to fool the intelligent apes that he was a hero and befriended the scientist Alexander. Speed proceeded to steal advanced technology from Alexander's lab. Upon discovering this betrayal Alexander created a portal that allowed him to travel to Speed's Earth. After some awkward encounters he was able to explain himself to the citizens of Midville. He quickly became a thorn in Mr. Speed's side as he fought him to regain his stolen tech. He soon grew found of this new world and was accepted as a hero with the press giving him a name to match his charitable character. He is a hyper intelligent scientist who has a wide array of inventions and gadgets that help with crime fighting, but also in providing Midville with advanced technology for general use.

  15. Svengali Servo

It's origin's are a bit of a mystery, but this robot appeared suddenly at a charity gala and used it's Hypnotronic Eye to hold sway over the wealthy attendees. It would go on to operate as a gentleman thief speaking with a posh English accent and eschewing violence and barbarism in it's various heists and schemes. Servo clashed with the likes of  Captain Dare and her Sky Sirens, Herc Stronghold and most famously, Doc Copper. Recently he has joined forces with Golden Scorpion and his organization to help kidnap scientists and engineers for Project Scorpio Giganteus.

  16. Wow...did not expect this thread to come back strong and then die because of a couple of minor comments. Oh well I guess it is what it is.

Ah screw it here is my entry anyway.

The extradimensional wizard Zzyzx had already defeated the Minuteman in a pitched battle in Pawtucket Rhode Island when the Odd Squad showed up. Zzyzx fired bolts of energy that animated a car and mailbox into monsters. While the Squad's leader V and the Jade Spider dealt with them, Wonder Worm stretched his elastic body around the mad mage. Zzyzx let loose more bolts wildly and one struck a poster advertising a Halloween supply store and the image of a garish hero was animated and brought to life. Randy Pankowski, aka the cursed Goat Boy, prepared to battle this figure. Surprisingly it did not attack Randy, but dashed to save some bystanders from falling debris. Then this new creation struck a mighty blow to Zzyzx knicking him out. The Odd Squad was stunned and questioned the newly minted hero before them.

"Who...what are you?" they said in unison.

"Well friends I am...THE BRIGHTEST BOLT!"

With that he disappeared in a flash of light. Since that day when danger appears or innocents are at risk there is a chance that it will appear in a flash of light to once again save the day.

    Bonus...here is the Odd Squad.

  17. Hardboiled Harry

A battered black fedora changed it's wearer, Sam Nicholas, into a gruff and world weary detective. He is constantly disheveled in a stained trenchcoat and cheap suit. He spouts monologues that are complete cliches about dangerous dames and goons looking to outfit him with cement shoes or give him permanent lead poisoning. He isn't impervious to attacks, and is often roughed up and knocked out cold, but his injuries are always minor and he bounces back quickly, usually after a stiff shot of bourbon. He can scrap with best of them, throwing haymakers or blasting away with his .45, but he has a serious weakness for femme fatale type villains.

  18. Thanks to everyone for their takes on the pic and the quick responses. So good to see this thread active again after being dormant for a time.

While I really liked the detail and world building of Rich McGee's entry I am going to go with wcw43921 as the winner. Guess I am just a sucker for a tragic backstory.

  19. Thanks to Rich McGee and I agree that Duke Bushido was the real winner. Also he is a coward making up some excuse about his phone just so he wouldn't have to pick an image! 😃

Sorry if this is a bit boring or convential of an image and I hope it hasn't been used previously, I just wanted to get something up fast to keep things going.

Professor Prism by Gaston25 on DeviantArt.jpeg

  20. Eddie Blatnick was an average unremarkable guy who enjoyed tabletop war games and rpgs. They provided a bit of an escape from his mundane life. He was attending a convention and walking amongst the booths checking out figurines and games when he noticed a small unadorned table in the corner. He approached the table where a man was sitting behind three figurines on a small green felt strip. One of them caught his eye in particular.

    "What is that?"

The vendor looked up and Eddie noticed he had mismatched eyes, one dull brown and the other an odd sickly green. The vendor smiled at Eddie revealing a row of jagged yellowed teeth.

"That young sir is Goregnasher the Bloodhemoth."

Eddie stifled a laugh at the name, but found himself fascinated by the design. He purchased it, almost in a daze. That night he had a dream about his overbearing and bullying boss Mr. Purvis. Purvis was asleep in his bed when suddenly the wall exploded and Goregnasher burst in. Eight feet tall and bulging muscle the beast preceded to pummel and rend Purvis into an unidentifiable mass. Eddie awoke with a start, but found himself amused by his dark fantasy of revenge. Then his phone rang.

"Dude did you hear about Purvis? He's friggin' dead man. I hear it was like a truck smashed though his place. Crazy stuff, like blood everywh..."

Eddie hung up on his co-worker, his body numb and eyes wide with shock. He staggered into his living room and peered at the figurine. It was in same place on his shelf, but now fresh red "paint" adorned the axe and tentacled maw. His mind raced as he stared at it. Then, almost imperceptibly it seemed to move. Then to grow as if Eddie was willing it. He stepped back in fear, but there was a part of him, deep down, that began to ponder the possibilities that lie ahead.
