All of those items seem pretty interesting, but I can't help but wonder if the pressing need isn't instead a standard setting and adventures that take place in that setting.

Forgotten Realms and Fifth Edition have ignited D&D like nothing we've ever seen before along with the wild success of Critical Role.

My vote would be for HERO to have some professionally done adventures.

Oh I think a lot of Americans would like to slap "polling experts". 2016 already scared a lot of folks, 2020 may have folks just ignore the polls all together. Which might be for the best.

I decided to take a Valium, and then watch Beauty and the Beast (from 1991). I'm pretty sure that it was the correct decision.

Nevada only has about 5% of the vote reported so far, and it's all from rural counties that always vote Republican. It will be a while before Clark and Washoe counties report, and they usually go blue enough to take the whole state. We'll see if that holds.

And now, I'm off to bed.

I've been against daylight savings time for decades.  It is a constant pita in the software and back office support realms.

I once built international invoices that had to adjust time based on the  preferences of each country and whatever time zone they considered real at which times of the year.

Did you know there are individual counties within states that have their own daylight savings time rules?  Like you might be in a state that observes it, but in a county that does not.

Madness.  Pick a time and just deal with the seasonal changes in lighting like every other living thing on the planet.

Looks like election shenanigans are already underway.

From Republicans trying to invalidate 100k plus drive-in votes in Harris County, TX to Republican poll watchers being told they can't observe polls in Philadelphia.

It's not a good look when both sides are pulling shifty bs to try to win.

I have a preference in who wins, but I'd like to see somebody win rather than have this turn in to some contested 1824 style congress picks the president situation.

Stay safe folks - this has the potential to boil over badly.

I've said it before and I'll undoubtedly say it again: I think it's preposterous that we spend nearly 2/3 of the year pretending we don't know what time it is.

Real time or Daylight Savings time--all year long. Pick one.

Duke understood it perfectly. Heroes and Villains use the same mechanics and the same rules, but not the same number of points.  Point disparities have been a thing since Champions first edition and have been accepted. The problem is different MECHANICS between Heroes and Villains, and that is my objection in a HERO based game. If  the villain Necromancer's skeleton army can last thousands of years, standing guard over his Phylactery, but the Hero Wizards  10 or 20 Skeletons last a day, when they are in lore supposedly the same spell, that is unacceptable.  If they are different spells , with different machanics, that's fine, and a different situation.  IF both the Necromancer, and the Wizard both have the same spell, and in both cases the skeletons collapse into dust in 20-40 days, than I find that pretty unacceptable and useless for thematic reasons. It's the decay, in general I object to.  Is this clearer?

Propagandists are already spinning this as the Biden campaign vehicles being the ones causing the trouble. Who directly caused that particular accident is not the point. Those other vehicles had no excuse for harassing those campaigners. They had no business being in a pack on the road looking to start a confrontation. That's the  real story.

For the direct collision, yes.  But you can see earlier footage of the white staffer car behind the Biden bus - the black truck apparently forced it out of its lane, and it tried to force its way back in behind the bus.

Do I think that was wise?  No.

But I would probably be investigating everyone on that road but the bus crew themselves.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing Simon shut this thread down, because it just gives me high blood pressure. But if we want a place to talk about politics, let's try to keep it friendly, or at least non-confrontational.

Oregon could become 1st US state to decriminalize hard drugs through this November's ballot initiative.

Possession of small amounts of heroin, cocaine, LSD and other hard drugs would result in a $100 fine or the person could opt to go into new, free addiction recovery centers which are to be paid for by taxes on marijuana sales.

I'm excited to see this since it's a variation on the approach I've advocated for years. Portugal, the Netherlands and Switzerland have each decriminalize hard drugs with no uptick in overall hard drug usage in their populations (Portugal with no uptick according to the article, the Netherlands and Switzerland according to my ever-failing memory).

When you consider how much the US spends on law enforcement, prosecution, and prisons over drug possession offenses, we could probably instead pay for rehab plus a new house for each drug offender and still come out cheaper and have less of a drug problem.

Both Gorsuch and Kavanaugh have already ruled against the position of the President per their understanding of the law, so I don't think it's a foregone conclusion how they'll act in this circumstance.

Yesteryear gets far better than Reagan and Clinton: the Roosevelts, Truman, Eisenhower... imperfect but truly great occupants of the Oval Office. That's not even getting into the icons like Washington, Jefferson, and Lincoln.

The quality of politicians, in America and generally, has been declining for a long, long time. The modern Western political system seems set up not only to foster mediocrity, but to drag even the good politicians down to that level.

I would say it was a complete rejection of the status quo that got us Trump.  The public was so sick of politicians that they gave the reality TV star and real estate guy a shot.

That is a blistering condemnation of the quality of politician we have been getting lately.

Comparing what we've seen the last few elections makes the politicians of yesteryear (Reagan, Clinton) seem like demigods in my very old opinion.

Looks like the winter surge is happening.

Texas death rate is finally starting to climb and the R0 rate for the virus is over 1 (i.e. spreading) for 49 out of 50 states.

Though I don't know that we can fairly dump on leadership for this.  Virtually every country in Europe I checked out is seeing a substantial surge in cases as well.  So were several countries in the middle east and there are a variety of levels of shutdown across the mix of countries.

I think this virus is just so stupidly contagious that we can't hope to contain it.

Slow the spread?  Sure.  Stop it?  No.

So I have downloaded GIMP and started playing around with some battlemaps for virtual tabletop use. I have not done any design like this in a long time. I don't claim to be a great artist, but I like to make things nice enough to allow easy suspension of disbelief for the players. As such, I would like to know if other do their own battle maps, make do without any, use those that others have made or some other solution? If you make your own, what do you use?

Here is my first attempt, it's a cavern setting that will probably end up being a 2 session thing because of the number of encounters unless the players are very clever or very sneaky. It's set right now for hexes at 5 feet, I'll probably set them for 2m for the conversion, made this to be more generally usable in 5e settings. Feedback welcome, good, bad or indifferent.
