  1. Thanks, @Panpiper ! You were an invaluable addition to the game--and tonight should be fun, too! Even better--collectively, we raised over $700 for COVID-19 relief! Anyone still interested in joining--we are planning to continue running this game as an episodic, "whoever's around the mansion this week"-style game. Players are welcome to join for one session or many. 2. @BlueNimbus and anyone else interested: First session will be two weeks from tonight, Tuesday, May 19, at 8 pm ET on Roll20, Zoom, and Twitch. Game listing here: https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/225402/heroes-unlimited Join us, help spread the word, or both!
  3. Yep. Can do all of that map stuff, as well as the die-rolling macros, WITHOUT a paid Roll20 account. I have a paid "Plus" account but only for purposes of my separate D&D game. Roll20 is better integrated with D&D, but I suspect that's a function of demand and WotC's willingness to work with Roll20 to provide materials and support. In fact, I've launched a 4th edition Champions game on Roll20 to benefit COVID-19 research and prevention. It's got 2m hexes, die-rolling macros, and everything! Players welcomed! https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/225402/heroes-unlimited
  4. Hi @BlueNimbus! Sure—I’ll be sure to post here when the game schedule is definite. Right now, we’re targeting Tuesday, May 19, at 8 pm ET on Roll20, Zoom, and Twitch. But even better, come join us! We currently have 4 players committed and there’s room for more. And the only entry fee is raising a little money for a worthy charity. Come on along!
  5. @Panpiper It’s $50 for as long as the game lasts. The idea is for players to commit to raising the money for charity, not to discourage playing the game. It’s my hope that if people commit to raise $50, it won’t be hard to raise more than that—all for a good cause, y’know?
  6. Greetings, heroes! The world needs heroes! Ivan Snark, billionaire playboy philanthropist, has summoned costumed superheroes to join forces under the banner of Heroes Unlimited, an ad hoc group dedicated to Smashing Evil! Crushing Crime! and Speaking with Initial Caps and Exclamation Marks! I am launching an episodic 4th edition Champions game for the benefit of COVID-19 research and prevention on Roll20 and Zoom, broadcast on Twitch. All are welcome; join for one session or the series. Players must raise at least $50 for the CDC Foundation, an independent nonprofit authorized by Congress to support the Center for Disease Control's vital work (https://give.cdcfoundation.org/give/195963/#!/donation/checkout), or another worthy IRS-registered 501c3 tax-deductible charity providing COVID-19 relief. Details at GoFundMe: https://www.gofundme.com/f/champions-smashing-covid19 . Each session will begin in-game from the Heroes Unlimited mansion in New York and will aim in the real world to be a self-contained 4-hour event. Returning characters gain experience points to use to become even more mighty. Bring your own 4th edition Champions rules-compliant character (250 point build, 125 points base plus 125 disadvantages) or message me privately with your preferred hero profile and I will assign you a character from our stable of ready-made PCs. (Why 4th edition? Apart from the nostalgia--I still have the Big Blue Book and three-ring binder from my campaigns in the '80's and '90's!) When the Danger Alert goes off in the Heroes Unlimited mansion, it's time for heroes to Assemble! Come join the fight! Smash Evil! Crush COVID! Game for Good! EXCELSIOR! Roll20 listing here: https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/225402/heroes-unlimited GoFundMe page here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/champions-smashing-covid19 Join in the heroic fight or help spread the word! 7. @Beast My experience is similar. I set up basic 3d6 die rolls and a simple damage roll using macros that were available in the Roll20 forum. For a Champions-based game like mine, that's 90% of the rolls anyway.
  8. Hey @Cool_Manchu! Sounds like we have a lot in common! I've been gaming since the late '70's with D&D and Tunnels & Trolls, hit a gaming peak in college in the late '80's-early '90's running 4th edition Champions and Cyberpunk 2020 while playing Villains & Vigilantes, Paranoia, It Came from the Late Late Late Show, Call of Cthulhu, and possibly others I've forgotten. I'm now running D&D 5E on Roll20 for a group, and we're playing--guess what? Tomb of Annihilation. I see your Original Post was from last summer, but I plan to start an episodic 4th edition Champions game on Roll20 as a charity fundraiser to combat COVID-19, and I would love advice on how best to set things up on that platform. Suggestions? As background: I will ask players to donate at least $10 per game session to the CDC Foundation or a 501c3 tax-deductible charity of their choice. I've purchased some superhero tokens and modern urban maps from 3rd party vendors on Roll20, and I'm very pleased with the results so far. For use in that game and others, I created an Excel-based 4th edition Combat Record Sheet (attached here and in the downloads section). Would love to get your suggestions on how best to run Champs on Roll20. Together we can SMASH COVID-19 like Obsidian stepping on a grape! 9. Hi Folks! I've used Roll20 for D&D 5E for over a year. It's free to sign up and use for players and GM alike. Purchasing online compendia--the complete D&D PHB, for example--costs money. So too do "Plus" and "Pro" accounts if you want to go that route (I am currently a "Plus" account). I can't speak to other platforms, but Roll20 in combination with Zoom works very well for my players and me. The currently available Roll20 resources for Hero are slim, but it's not impossible or even that difficult to translate to the Roll20 format. (Hey HERO friends--why not work with Roll20 to publish your rules and modules on their platform?) In fact, I plan to announce an episodic 4th edition Champions game on Roll20 shortly. It will be a charity fundraiser to combat COVID-19. I will ask players to donate at least $10 per game session to the CDC Foundation or a 501c3 tax-deductible charity of their choice. No doubt, online games lack the spirit and camaraderie of in-person games. But we are Heroes! Take advantage of our current circumstances to expand your gaming world to include others who wouldn't otherwise make it to your tabletop! I have--it's great. Here is an Excel-based Combat Record Sheet for 4th edition--didn't see one currently in the downloads. I reopened my Champions folder from the '90's and was motivated to work on a throwback 4th edition game on Roll20 for a charity fundraiser to fight COVID-19. The embedded formulae calculate and place Phases in the appropriate Segments of the Speed column based on the Speed Chart on p.139 of the Big Blue Book (BBB). For example, if Mindlock has a SPD of 5, the spreadsheet automatically populates action Phases for her in segments 3, 5, 8, and 10-12. I included other examples from sample characters in the BBB as well, but please note that ALL of the columns with segment values have the embedded formula based on the SPD column. Just insert your combatants in the appropriate rows, insert their SPD, and the chart will do the rest. You can copy-paste for more rows or delete rows as desired. An additional benefit of Excel: insert your combatants in any order, use the Sort function based on the SPD value, and your combatants will sort themselves automatically into turn order. Comments and corrections welcomed. For anyone interested in participating in a Roll20- and Zoom-based episodic 4th edition game to raise money for charity--stay tuned! I hope to announce something here and on Roll20 in the near future.
