  1. Well, to make it short - we ended up removing Flash and replacing it with Darkness. His concept was a "puff of smoke" that left his target blind. I explained that was NOT Flash. It last only last 1 phase so it got a Limited Power. It is LINKED to his Teleport and he MUST use it with teleport. Also purchased was Personal Immunity. I must confess that I am still thinking about Trigger.... both seem right... I guess the question is "Advantage or Disadvantage". Se he can teleport to a target, the Darkness activates, he can see, his opponent cannot (usually) Hah - kinda funny - this character WOULD leave you in the dark! 🙂 Again - thank you to all who offered their thoughts. This is a SUPER community!
  2. Again - many thanks. I just completed a long character build session with the player - and we both finished happy with the result. I think it will be balanced and a blast to play.
  3. Wow - great discussion. Many of the comments above were part of the dialogue with my player and me trying to work this out. For example, we captured the ideas of No Range, Personal Immunity, and AoE. We had discussed the idea of sulfur burning the eyes - but that seemed to make it an AVLD. This is my biggest concern. This sets that statue that a player can now link an attack power to movement and effectively have TWO attacks in a single phase. I keep asking myself - "Is this balanced?", and "How will I keep this from being abused?" Another thought was "in what hex does the Flash appear?" The hex FROM which the PC moved or the hex into which the PC teleported? Or both and split the dice between them? But that, to me, seems to border abusive.... or at least opens the door to a lot of abuse..... Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

  5. Greetings Heroes! Was asked about a concept - wanted to get some feedback on it. Note that we are using 4th Ed. A character wants to be able to teleport - and when he teleports the special effect of him appearing is so bright that it works like an 2d6 AoE Flash attack - and then he attacks. The challenge that I have is thinking it through mechanically. This means that the PC would teleport in - and it's attack action for that phase would be used upon appearing from the teleport if the Flash was Linked (and used) with the teleport. My questions are: Am I correct that the Flash would end the PC's turn? Is there any combos of Power Advantages, Limitations, etc, allow the PC to teleport in, the Flash goes off, and then the PC attack? I checked 5th Ed in case it had a clarification. The Multiple Powers rules (around page 234) doesn't seem to allow this to be possible. I thought about Damage Shield as that didn't require an attack roll - but it required an attacker to hit the PC. I thought about a Linked Explosion - but that would still make it an attack action. In the past people have offered some great suggestions - so I truly appreciate your thoughts. Thank you!

  7. First, let me give a BIG "Thank You!" to ALL that replied! The builds look great - and the discussion is very, very helpful. Lots of great comments to think over. My thinking had been to "do it simple". Either as suggested above (Dodge, Costs END, etc) or have the player roll an opposed DEX roll, with success allowing the PC to teleport away and the goons shoot each other. I figure, "Hey, this IS a comic book - let the players have the fun that is in the comics". However, I am also a big believer in keeping balance - and didn't wanna over simplify and miss something that made this unbalancing. Again - thank you to all. I welcome any more suggestions. 8. Good evening all! I am running a Champions 4th Ed game (I know it very well - so I keep using it even though there have been some good updates). My question / request: Does anyone have a build that simulates Nightcrawler that they can share? I have a player who wants to clone Nightcrawler - and we are stuck on how to buy some of the powers he envisions. For example, he wants to be able to teleport in-between two NPCs, then as they try to shoot him, he Bamf's away and they shoot each other. To me, this is simply taking a half phase move in between two NPC's, then when the NPC's go on their phase he uses his remaining half phase to teleport away. The player suggested something with Mind Control that "confuses" the NPC's - which seems too complicated (not to mention the discussion about why used an EGO based attack, etc). Other things powers being discussed are AoE attacks to simulate him being able to hit many opponents quickly. Hoping that someone's build might help us come to terms. Thanks! B E A H E R O ! ! !
  9. LoneWolf & Grailknight - thank you for sharing your thoughts and making the suggestions. I truly appreciate discussing and better understanding the rules. I had not considered Move Through previously. My reason was that the PC was not expecting to "hit a wall". I would think that when executing a Move Through, the PC would be like a Linebacker who KNEW s/he was about to hit something. In this situation it would be unexpected. My real life experience is that when I hit something unexpectedly - it seems to "hurt more". However, your feedback has me reconsidering this line of thinking. Applying Casual Strength is also a great idea. The PC may not have "meant" to do it - but it might be a reasonable application in this instance. BTW - I know 4th Edition is a little out of date - however I had the materials and started an online game due to the pandemic (thinking it would only last 6-8 sessions). The crazy part is that the players are having a blast and wanna keep going - and I don't wanna switch systems on them. Again, thank you. Please share any other thoughts on the matter if they occur to you.
  10. Good point - In this instance I was thinking that they were not aware of the wall and Move Through did not apply. For example, the PC is Desolid and runs through a wall - only to find that it Effects Desolid.
  11. Good Day All - First, a Thank You to those who have answered my questions previously. This one seems simple - however I felt it necessary to check as I cannot find a specific example of this circumstance. Knockback on page 166 of the BBB is "real close" - and I have used it in the past as substantiation for my ruling. Game: Champions 4th Ed Subject: Damage from Movement into Solid Object Example 1: A PC is moving at 20" (hexes) per phase and for whatever reason runs directly into a wall. For this example, the wall has Def=12 and Body=12. My understanding is that the PC would take 20d6, one d6 per inch of movement - similar to what would happen if Knocked Back into another PC or object. Assume that the roll was STUN=70 & BODY=20 - so the PC does not go through the wall and the PC would take the STUN & BODY rolled from the 20d6 (apply defenses). Example 2: If the roll had BODY=26, then the PC would have still taken the 20d6 damage as that was equal to the movement when impact occurred. However, the wall would have broken and the PC would have been Knocked Back another 2 hexes. If the PC had been moving at 30", then the PC would have taken a max of 24d6, per the Knockback example on Page 166 of BBB. Question: Are these correct interpretations of the situation? If not, please point me to a page in the BBB or other supplement that clarifies.
  12. Greeting Heroes! Requesting confirmation of a rules interpretation on the combination of Desolidification & Invisible Power Effects - Champs 4th Edition rules. If a hero purchased Desolidification and Invisible Power Effects (vision sense groups) - then the effect would be that the character would appear "solid" when "desolid" (i.e. Kitty Pride). My reason for this interpretation is page 68 of the BBB states, "A desolidified character is still visible, s/he looks somewhat hazy (people can tell he's using desolidification)". Therefore, when the visible effect is removed, they would look solid. The reason for the question is that a player is seeking to build an infiltration expert who can be both invisible and desolid at once. My direction was that she buy Invisibility and Desolidification. She was concerned that Desolidification might have a visible effect that would negate the usefulness of running Invisibility at the same time. Would she be invisible but people would see the special effect of the Desolidification? Therefore she would also need Invisible Power Effects. An example would be if a character was Invisible - but had a Force Field without Invisible Power Effects. People would see an "empty" force field. I have to confess that I never thought of that possibility.... as I had always interpreted it as I described above. Feedback is welcome. Thank you in advance.
  13. All - thank you very much for your feedback. I like the suggestion made by Hugh Neilson - very clean. One of the concerns that I have about the proposed "Bounce" power is that Darkwing (the player) has proposed that the "bounce" could potentially be an attack. Example: BigGuy punches Rubberman and knocks him into a wall. Rubberman makes his skill roll, bounces off the wall back towards BigGuy. Should an attack be available to Rubberman? (i.e. Move Through, Standard Attack, etc). Conceptually, it makes sense that this could be an attack as Rubberman is making a Skill Roll, trying to bounce back at his attacker, etc. My concern is kinda like the one that Duke Bushido described - is this "unbalanced"? Darkwing has proposed a series of three rolls to ensure that it stays balanced (1st being the Skill Roll, 2nd being able to successfully bounce in the right direction, 3rd being the attack roll to hit). Does anyone have any thoughts to share? Thank you.
  14. Good afternoon all - I'm new to the site... but been running CHAMPS 4th Ed for a loooong time. Got hit with a question that I never thought about before....did a search... didn't see the answer. I hope that this is the correct thread on which to post this question. My question: When a PC uses Absorption, absorbs BODY and receives CP to apply to the power/stat - are the power limitations considered?? Example: BigGuy gets all of his powers from an OIF (-1/2). His Absorption adds to his STR. BigGuy gets hit and absorbs 10 CP. Does this mean he can increase his STR by 10 (because STR is a 1:1 point buy) or 15 (because the -1/2 power disad can be applied)? I had always interpreted the powers/stat would NOT consider the power disad.... "With this adjustment power the character may absorb the BODY damage of an attack and add that energy, as Character Points, to a specific power or characteristic". Power Disads are not mentioned in the description or example. Thank you for your time.
