There's usually some turnover in these kind of games, you will likely have slots open regularely

armadillo got a reaction from m.mavnn in Mutants: Why does this idea work?
First let me say that I was always onboard for the idea of mutants. In Marvel, there are all these people with powers but for some reason mutants are singled out to be feared and hated.

But, to me, it always worked. I bought into it. Captain America could be high-fived in public by a little kid, but someone suspected of being a mutant wouldn't be allowed anywhere near that kid, even if that mutant just saved the day.

I guess what I'm asking is, What is the psychology of this situation? Why does it work and ring true narratively?

I would love to see an app that would output a character sheet in a smudgy, old-school format:

PS: This sheet actually belongs to a poster here named culhwch, I think

Thank you, Duke. Your treatise came at a good time for me. I was trying to figure out some stuff in my own life and this really helped me put things into perspective.

Terror Inc. is no longer owned by Hero Games, Heroic Publishing owns them. I have received permission from Heroic Publishing to update them to 6th edition. This was done in Villainy Codex II by Tiger Paw Press, I'm in the process of putting all the material I've done into a future project called the Muerte Files, which is the name he goes by now. As far as an Hero Games adventure project extremely doubtful that it will happen

A classic use of this group comes from an Organization group called The Blood and Dr. McQuark.

In it the PCs run into TI as they are stealing some device from some research comp.

    WHY?

To use it to find and loot a crashed, ancient spacecraft full of potentially valuable tech.  Though TI were tangental to the plot really, you could make them central.  Agents of TI are found setting up safe houses in the city.  As players clash with the agents, PM and his supers come in during the actual robbery to keep the players from intervening with the theft.  Now to track down the device and stop what ever plans TI have.  Season appropriately, serve to the PCs.

Following Mr. R's example, you could slot them in nearly anywhere you could use VIPER. They would be a bit more likely to lead with their supers, but that would be the only real difference.

You could probably modify the old Deathstroke module too.

Armadillo's "palm blasters" form a single attack. Note the following from his Powers/Tactics description:  "Armadillo’s powers all derive from his suit of battle armor, which comes equipped with three different blasters (located in the palms, on the wrists, and on the shoulders)..." (Champions Villains Vol. 3, pg. 18)

So although the character sheet refers to "Palm Blasters," "Wrist Blasters," and "Shoulder Blasters" each in the plural, there aren't actually two of each. He has "three different blasters" (palm, wrist, and shoulder).  Each is a fixed slot in the Blaster Array Multipower, so he can only use one of these on any given Phase before having the chance to change slots to a different one.

I was doing a mock fight to prepare for this weekends game and came across a problem. Armadillo got knocked back and stood up to shoot his palm blasters. I can't find dual weilding or is it 2 attacks with one being the off hand and getting -3 or can you even shoot both blasters?

armadillo reacted to Tech in Champions Campaign 40th Anniversary
It's hard for me to believe I'm saying this but come this June, our campaign will be 40 years old, along with the 40th Anniversary of the game Champions. It's actually mind-boggling to me, that any campaign could be that long. The campaign is older than my friend's marriage as well as some people in the campaign. I'm planning on buying some plastic award medals that you can put your own emblem inside of and giving them out in June. By the way, this is the same continuous campaign - never stopped or retconned. It's gone through changes over the decades and has seen players & characters come and go, but the core players are still playing some of the same characters that the campaign started with.

So along with saying it's been 40 years, I also want to say that it is the Champions game that is so durable and flexible that made this happen. My hat off to you, Hero Games and more specifically, to Champions.

I suppose another strike against it is age.   60 years ago, speaking out against segregation, even metaphorically, was fraught - you might not have been blacklisted for it like a commie in the prior decade, but it would have been reasonable to fear loss of readership, for instance.  Today, even the most cynical, soulless corporations fervently declare their commitment to inclusion.
Like how Star Trek, in the 60s, was groundbreaking and courageous, but by the 80s was feeling trite and preachy, and it might not be long before reruns of TOS gets a Gone-With-the-Wind style forward alerting the viewer to all the rampant Patriarchy they're about to witness.

There's a story like that about RL racism, too:  Tom Driscoll in Mark Twain's Puddn’head Wilson.

Like Marvel's mutant-hating metaphor, racism doesn't actually make sense or hold together logically, because the arbitrary definitions of race can oblige the committed racist to flip-flop from embracing an individual as a brother to hating him (or vice versa) with proof of pedigree - like the a wave of the metaphorical mutant-detector.

(ps: I hope I'm not appearing too strident on this topic.)

I had Microwave shrunk down and hiding behind The Dash during combat. When he got KO'd, the heroes noticed:

"You see Dash's unconscious body suddenly float up and fly away."  The first time, the players were "WHAT?!"  After a few times, they
finally caught on after seeing Microwave actually attack a few times.

I liked his working with a shrunken character who, if he was KOd, would fly away with him.

"Hey, how can I buy flight that only activates if I'm KOd to get me out of harm's way?"

    "Ask the Dash !"

I remember that.  It was an Article where Aaron Allston described how the villains in the book could be made into a team and what their group tactics would be like.  Seriously brutal.  The dash and Microwave were one combo.  The other was Shadow Queen and Void (her darkness field over the heroes, him tport in and RKA no range, but he had radar so no minuses!)

OH if any were wondering why she wasn't noticed well IIRC she had shrinking 6 levels and invisibility (only while shrunk) and flight (only while shrunk).  Add a Str 10 (size didn't affect it) and you had the perfect rescuer!

The super speed villain known as "The Dash" was in the 'Great Supervillain Contest' along with few other villains, including the megavillain. I still use "The Dash". You can get a PDF of it in the Hero Game store, in 3rd edition Champions.

Thanks, Chris! I knew about that one; it was one of the first spotted, and I have an email exchange between me and Jason about it back in Oct. 2012, but I didn't have on my list. I guess my brain wants to keep forgetting that rule.   I'll add it for sure.

I don't know if this counts as errata, but in CC ("The Madder I Get, The Stronger I Get!" on p. 211) the Increased Maximum Effect Advantage is applied to Aid, when in 6e1 it's specified that the only way to increase the Aid maximum is to buy more dice.

Well, to be fair, Spidey was feared for quite some time as well, mostly due to J. Jonah Jameson. A good chunk of NY, including law enforcement, bought it Jameson's "He's a Menace" schtick.

Magneto and others (Apocalypse, The Brotherhood/Sisterhood of Evil, etc.) have provided the media, particularly the anti-mutant media groups, the right amount of ammo needed to launch campaigns swaying the populace against the "Homo Superior" species. Those that have apparent mutations such as Nightcrawler or Leach, or those that have risen up to fight for mutant rights (aka The X-Men) become the poster children for such campaigns as well. How else do you get panels such as...

Or have ad campaigns that look like this?

Hate is an all too easy path for many, and giving direction to that hate is even easier for those with the right charisma. Even in recent history we've seen atrocities that prove that the lessons taught by Marvel's Mutants are still falling on unhearing ears.
