  1. Maybe with a 14- Activation roll, to represent imperfect coverage? Her Ratio can probably accommodate that.

  3. A follow-up to the previous post: If MLB 2020 season negotiations stall over money, there's only one side to blame From the article:
  4. You mean Socialized Medicine? Surely you can't be serious.
  5. Will there be baseball in 2020? The league has sent a proposal to the players' union for a shortened season. Some of the specifics include: An 80- or 82-game season Play beginning in June Games played in home venues as much as possible (although the Blue Jays may have to play in the States somewhere, maybe Florida) No fans in the stands, although players may invite a few family members Players, coaches, and managers will wear masks except when on the field No mound visits; no coaches in the bullpen Expanded rosters (more relief pitchers, primarily) and the possibility of an NFL-style practice squad that a team could draw from during the season A three-division realignment like the one suggested upthread a few posts; teams will only play teams in their new divisions An expanded playoff that will allow 14 teams And then there's the big one: A 50/50 revenue split between the owners and the players The MLBPA has already agreed to prorated player salaries for the season. If they agree to this provision--and I don't believe that's gonna happen--the players stand to make A LOT less money than even the prorated amounts. Without gate, parking, and concession revenues, the available pool of money will be a lot smaller. Half of that smaller revenue spread among even more players than usual? Yeah, I don't see that happening. This is just the first proposal, of course. A lot of negotiation and detail-wrangling has yet to take place. We'll see what happens.
  6. There's a bit in Starship Troopers (the novel, not the explosive diarrhea of an elephant that was the movie of the same name) about how the troopers learned to cut each other's hair, and some of them even became passable barbers. That's where we are in my house, at least for my son and me. Clippers with the #3 guard gets the hair out of my eyes, and that's all I really need.
  7. Well, you know what they say: If you don't go to other people's funerals, they won't go to yours.
  8. Yeah, I just saw this. I can't help but wonder if there will be similar rulings in other states now that someone has set the precedent.
  9. Canonically speaking, stinger wins that fight.
  10. It's worth noting that the Utah State Constitution still states that "polygamous or plural marriages are forever prohibited". But nobody was really enforcing the law, and proponents of the change are saying that decriminalizing polygamy will make it easier to prosecute some of the abuses that sometimes come with it. (This language in the State Constitution was necessary for Utah to be accepted into the Union as a State in 1896.)
  11. "The Universe is vast, and we are so small. There is really only one thing we can ever truly control." "What's that?" "Whether we are good or evil."
  12. "You are not ready for immortality." -Kosh
  13. Something to buy with XP. Edit: Or maybe put the Flight and Blast into an Elemental Control, and use the saved points to buy her some extra Resistant Defense. Hmmm.....
  14. I received my hard copy in the mail yesterday. In terms of production quality, it's solid. Tight binding, sharp printing and graphics, good quality materials. I've had the PDF for while now, of course, but it was nice to feel the paper in my hands. I'm old-school like that, I suppose.
  15. I had a dream that I was giving a few of my students a tour at my alma mater. As we finished ascending a staircase into an open area, I saw one of my former students, now presumably a student at this University. He greeted me, we chatted for a moment, and then he asked if I'd be willing to do a short public opinion survey. I've been in the business before, so I agreed. His first question was whether I supported the use of a certain slogan, which was both mean-spirited and decidedly racist in its implications, by protesters who were calling for an end to the government shutdown. I told him that I would not support the use of that slogan because it was both inaccurate and defamatory. His questions then became more belligerent, and if it hadn't been before, it was now becoming apparent that this so-called survey was a political push. As my former student continued with greater insistence and urgency, I told him, "Look, I'm at work right now. I don't support the message you're advocating, and even if I did, this isn't the place. I'm sorry, but I have to get going." At this point he pulled out a whistle and practically thrust it into my mouth saying, "Will you blow this whistle in defense of our constitutional right to freedom of expression?" At that point I lost it. I slapped his hand away and said, "Are you freaking kidding me? Social distancing? Get out!" This took him by surprise and he stood frozen momentarily in his spot, so I repeated the injunction. "Get out!" Dejected, he slunk off down the stairs, presumably in search of someone else to question. I apologized to my little cadre of students for the interruption, and we continued with the tour.
