  1. We seem to have skipped L, so Clive Staples Lewis. Now back to your regularly scheduled letter O.
  2. And so my question for this morning is this: with Jon Gruden already out the door, how long until Urban Meyer joins him in the unemployment line?
  3. ...and Jon Gruden is out as head coach of the Raiders.
  4. We were discussing space exploration in my astronomy class today, and the subject of William Shatner going into space came up. My students pretty much all knew who he was, but they were quite surprised to learn that he was 90 years old. One of my students asked, "How long is he going to be up there?" I responded, "Maybe for the rest of his life...."
  5. That's a pretty cool picture. Well done. Oh, and one more thing...
  6. I do, in fact, love the United States postal service. I do NOT love the way it's being run right now. DeJoy has to go--the sooner (and farther), the better.
  7. The Broncos lost when they failed to convert a fourth down for the first time this season, but it was a lot closer than I expected. All in all, this game tells me something important about the team: as long as we can keep Drew Lock off the field, we've got a chance.
  8. Kendall Hinton, the former practice squad wide receiver who's most famous for being Denver's impromptu COVID quarterback last season, caught his first NFL touchdown in Pittsburgh today.
  9. The Donkeys gave up a touchdown on Pittsburgh's opening drive, then pulled a delay of game penalty on their first offensive snap. Gonna be a long, long afternoon.
  10. Atlanta's red to black gradient uniforms make them look like an arena league team. I mean, more than their level of play does.
  11. Well, any good criminal knows that the first step toward getting away with your crime is to eliminate the evidence.
  12. Okay, how's this for a realignment? Regionalization concept that would realign teams in AAC, Conference USA, Sun Belt to be presented Monday To be clear: The American isn't interested. Their Commissioner still harbors P6 aspirations (or delusions). The Sun Belt isn't interested at present either. C-USA seems to be driving this bus. So probably this will go nowhere. But what if it did? I looked at all of the members of the AAC that aren't going to the Big XII (8), members of C-USA (14), and members of the Sun Belt (10); I also looked at all the FBS Independents not named Notre Dame or BYU (5). That's a total of 37 teams, to be divided into two regional conferences of 12 members each and one of 13. Here's how I sketched it out: Southwest: Louisiana-Lafayette Louisiana-Monroe Louisiana Tech New Mexico State North Texas Rice Southern Methodist Texas-El Paso Texas-San Antonio Texas State Tulane Tulsa Gulf Coast: Alabama-Birmingham Arkansas State Coastal Carolina Florida Atlantic Florida International Georgia Southern Georgia State Memphis South Alabama South Florida Southern Miss Troy Mid-Atlantic: Appalachian State Army Charlotte Connecticut East Carolina Liberty Marshall Massachusetts Middle Tennessee Navy Old Dominion Temple Western Kentucky (The Mountain West and Mid-American Conferences were not included in this analysis because 1) They are not part of the proposal and 2) They are already pretty effectively regionalized.) Under this arrangement, the longest distance between conference schools is from New Mexico State to Tulane and from Arkansas State to Florida International, each about 1130 miles. From Middle Tennessee to UMass is just under 1050 miles. From In the present configurations, there are distances of 2000 miles in C-USA (UTEP to Old Dominion), 1500 miles in The American (SMU to Temple), and 1300 miles (Texas State to Coastal Carolina). The schools are also clumped more closely together under the new proposal, so there will be many fewer long trips. This should help with travel expenses. But, as previously stated, this is strictly an academic exercise. I do not for the briefest fraction of a second expect that this (or anything like this) will ever actually happen.
  13. Do you know what the coolest thing about What If...? is? It's that all the voice recordings were made before the pandemic, back when Chadwick Bozeman was still alive. So even though he's gone now, we have a bit more of his legacy that will always be with us. No, it's just something in my eye. Shut up.
  14. Q: Why am I not allowed to order antipasto with my pasta? A: It's only a metaphorical elephant.
  15. Be still, my soul: The Lord is on thy side; With patience bear thy cross of grief or pain. Leave to thy God to order and provide; In every change he faithful will remain. Be still, my soul: Thy best, thy heavenly Friend Thru thorny ways leads to a joyful end. Be still, my soul: Thy God doth undertake To guide the future as he has the past. Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake; All now mysterious shall be bright at last. Be still, my soul: The waves and winds still know His voice who ruled them while he dwelt below. Be still, my soul: The hour is hastening on When we shall be forever with the Lord, When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone, Sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored. Be still, my soul: When change and tears are past, All safe and blessed we shall meet at last.
  16. My heart was broken My heart was broken Sorrow, sorrow Sorrow, sorrow My heart was broken My heart was broken You saw it, you claimed it You touched it, you saved it My tears are drying My tears are drying Thank you, thank you Thank you, thank you My tears are drying My tears are drying Your beauty and kindness Made tears clear my blindness While I'm worth My room on this Earth I will be with you While the Chief Puts sunshine on Leith I'll thank Him For His work And your birth And my birth Yeah, yeah, yeah My heart was broken My heart was broken Sorrow, sorrow Sorrow, sorrow My heart was broken My heart was broken You saw it, you claimed it You touched it, you saved it While I'm worth My room on this Earth I will be with you While the Chief Puts sunshine on Leith I'll thank Him For His work And your birth And my birth Yeah, yeah, yeah Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
  17. Lady P and the kids attended her friend's funeral today. I wasn't able to go due to impending end-of-quarter stuff, but I watched on Zoom. That was better than nothing. I wish he hadn't been so tragically misled by all of those people he should have been able to trust. I wish there weren't so many people so passionately committed to the lies that are keeping us from ending this stupid [REDACTED] pandemic once and for all.
