That's what the original Crisis on Infinite Earths comic series did, to try to simplify the chaotic DC multiverse. But multiple Earths seems to be DC's opioid -- they just can't say no. They could probably get away with it for all the CW shows -- it's a much smaller cast of characters. But with inter-dimensional travel so well-established and easy in that universe, I don't think conflating the Earths is necessary, or even desirable. Might be fun as a temporary development during a crossover, though.

I could see them taking a partial approach. A crisis where you end up some worlds, some merged, but still have a multiverse. For example, they might see an advantage to merging Supergirl's earth with the earth of Flash, Green Arrow, Legends, and Batwoman. As for Black Lightning, I'm not sure it will brought into the fold at all. After all, Supergirl was still in its first season and on another network when they crossed it over with Flash. Black Lightning is in its second season on the same network and I haven't heard a peep about possible crossovers. Also, Black Lightning is produced in Atlanta, which is a long way from Vancouver and the rest of the DC shows on the CW

Oh, I know why it's based on 3E. I still don't see how it makes good business sense. That it originates from 3E or 6E might be a moot point depending on how far it departs from the source material and if it becomes its own thing.

I assume it was seen as a project that might appeal to some older Champions fans, maybe attract some fans to Hero from Ron's fanbase (and possibly the larger Indy RPG fanbase), and to be cynical, make some money off the Hero Games property without having to put in any time or effort.

I accidentally made an edit to the display text of a HUGE compound power. I read through it a couple times but can't seem to find the edit (but it's blue). Is there a way to refresh the description back to the default?

I would really rather not have to recreate it, if I can avoid it.

    :)

This is described in the Hero Designer documentation on page 12 under "Changing the Text of an Item".

Yes, that's a good point. I guess this is technically true, and it's 6e, but it's still 130 pages. Then they bypassed it and went with Champions Complete instead (and Fantasy Hero as well). HERO Basic is long gone as far as I can tell.

I think maybe what many of us mean by a "Rules Lite" version of the game is more like 40 pages of rules, like e1, with the express purpose of being a brief introduction to Champions, or some other specific (rather than generic) genre. The rules would be baked into the genre without all the variations, etc., required for a generic set of rules. This would be an introduction, referencing the more developed 6e rules, but making it playable in very quick order for someone who is new to the system. It's all a pipe dream, really, but could be done. Some of us think it should be done. But Champions Now, although based on the 3e rules, is not it. It's something different, and changes some of the core rules (such as killing attacks, and body) dramatically.

Another example of a "Rules Lite" version would be something like GURPS Lite. Although still generic, it recently taught me the game in about 30 minutes so I could play it with my friends. Something like this, somewhere between the "Champions in 2 pages" PDF and Champions Complete, would be a great introduction for new folks without making their eyes swirl.

I've got to admit that my thought was that the "Rules Lite" version of Champions Now would not necessarily resemble the Hero System at all but would be a modern Indie RPG-style rule set designed to specifically create the same kind of experiences that Ron Edwards is tailoring 3E Champions to create.

  5. My impression is that Ron wants to create a book about how to create a great superhero role-playing experience. That book will include two ruleselts that players and GMs can use to do so. One ruleset is a revised version of Original Champions (1st-3rd editions). The other would be a new rules set with a more modern indie approach designed to capture the same flavor.

  6. Looks like you're trying to use the Attack Versus Alternate Defense modifier. That modifier is for attacks that work against a different defense that usual (for example, Power Defense instead of Energy Defense). You want to use the Alternate Combat Value modifier which includes the OCV vs. DMCV option you want at +1/4.

As a more general comment, if, for some reason, the desired modifier is not available, you can use Custom Modifier. Details on using it are available in the Hero Designer documentation.

The problem is that MCU Thanos is given "comic book logic" for his master plan, but is stuck in a "realistic superhero" milieux where such logic looks even more ridiculous than it does on the comic book page where such loopy motivations are so commonplace that readers don't even question it.

Does it really matter how silly a plan Thanos may have?  Who cares if it's going to work or not? Isn't the only important thing the threat that he presents to the heroes?

And I certainly don't see the MCU as a "realistic superhero" milieu.

    I was spared by Thanos.

Thanos, as portrayed in this movie, was an MORON!

Do you know how long it will take for the population to reach the same level it had before his "culling"?

    50 years.

Even assuming he's right, all he's done is bought the universe an extra fifty fracking years!

    Good job,   MORON!

When populations start getting out of hand again, he just snaps his fingers again for another culling.

I get that - but I think that Discovery had done enough to symbolise that themselves (they weren't exactly subtle about it, with Saru's speech in the mirror universe about this being the first voyage of the Discovery and Michael's passionate speeches about what the Federation stands for)

The Big E looked beautiful, though.  If Pike is captain will the first officer be a version of Majel Barret's "Number One'? Will they dare put a Spock in as science officer?

Sure, why not?  We've already seen a different actor play a younger Sarek, what's wrong with different actors playing Pike, Spock, and Number One? And I would imagine that we will meet Spock. He is the main character's foster brother, after all.

I don't know if the hockey tournaments have started, but I haven't been able to find much on the App.

I have seen the Mogul final, or at least part of it. I was immediately reminded of a Portland ski shop that frequently advertised on local radio called Mogul Mouse. Their slogan was "Mogul Mouse! Whoop-De Doo!". I wonder why they decided to use that phrase, given its multiple connotations. In this case, it was meant to show excitement, much like the little big in the ad going "WHEE! WHEE! WHEE!" all the way home.

The women's hockey tourney started a couple of days ago.

The men's hockey tourney starts on Wednesday (USA vs. Slovenia at 7:10 AM ET/4:10 AM PT on NBCSN).

A couple of web sites that might be useful to you instead of the app (or to supplement it). Can't comment on the app itself (as expected, it is not available in Canada):

That too would be a lot easier with a computergame. They tend to be a lot more "space efficient". I can download a PC version of risks with a measily 22 MiB. Just think how many boardgame clones you could carry and play on one tablet with touchscreen. Those games tend to be "hotseat multiplayer" by nature. Some could even work on something as small as a phone screen (but that is less likely in general).

Thanks to my computerclub I see a lot of devices every month. Mobile Devices (Smartphones to Laptops) have largely replaced oldschool PC's. Even people that explicitly never plan on moving them, still prefer a laptop for home applications due to better space efficiency.

Heck, more then once now I saw what I thought was a laptop. But was actually a tablet with keyboard in a shared casing.

By how many orders of magnitude is the Comptuer games industry larger then the Hobby games industry?

The mobiles games 2016 alone beat the US+Canada boardgame figures you linked by 5 (1.4 Billion to 6.8 Billion): https://newzoo.com/insights/infographics/us-games-market-2016/

Sorry, but at large Hobby games can not hold a candle to the Comptuer games.

I was never trying to claim that board games were more popular than computer games. I was merely countering your condescending “who plays those anymore" comment with an indicator that the hobby game industry is growing and thriving.

However, I’m done here. Clearly, my point was lost on you.

    Then you are odd.

I play computergames daily. I maybe played a Cardgame (Munchkin) 3 times this year. And that is about as close to playing a boardgame that I got.

Here's some numbers for the hobby game industry from 2016:

My impression is that similar growth continued in 2017.

  13. Adrian Pasdar probably would have made for a better Maxwell Lord, but that ship has sailed. And unfortunately for me, I'm still too used to him as General Blowhard from Agents of SHIELD; it feels like that character somehow slipped from the Marvel continuity into the DC continuity while nobody was looking.

Of course, that is a fault of viewers like you and not the actor or the producers. And it's General Talbot, by the way.

  14. Well, we know that time-travel is a big part of what comic-book Mon-El went through, so I think (fear) that's inevitable.

Same. Maxwell Lord in this show wasn't a terrible concept (as Lex Luthor knockoffs go), but the actor playing him lacked the skill and charisma to really sell it. Adrian Pasdar is just much better in those areas.

Are you referring to Glorinth fooling around with his timeline in the Valor (a post-crisis name for Mon-El) series? Because otherwise I can't really recall any time travel associated with him -- unless you're thinking of the 1000 years in the Phantom Zone as time travel.

  15. To be honest, folks, until Jason posts some kind of update, it is probably best to just assume that eveything beyond Golden Age and Ghosts, Ghouls, and Goblins is dead. That's not to say that such projects may not appear at sometime, but really until Jason actually announces that a project is being worked on, it seems silly to put much energy into even thinking about that project.
