  1. Do you? What's your actual, real-life law enforcement experience look like?
  2. Here's the video from the Scranton incident: https://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/news/2021/01/31/rpd-body-cam-video-9-year-old-girl-getting-handcuffed/4330459001/ Not even close to acceptable. I hope they all get fired, though we know they won't.
  3. The joys of asynchronous communication.
  4. The Fire tablets mentioned in the OP aren't great, and the modded OS is pure garbage. If the goal is working within the Amazon ecosystem, not doing too much surfing (you only get the garbage Silk browser), and the user is savvy enough not to constantly accidentally buy stuff from Amazon, they have their place. Maybe not so much for an 80+ year old, even if they are pretty tech savvy. Once you move away from the Fire tablets, there really aren't any decent Android tablets that don't cost as much as a cheaper iPad, which is what I'd go with in that case. I think you can get into an iPad for around the same $300 range that Chromebooks start getting decent at. Kind of a toss up at that point. The iPads in that price range will have smaller screens but better build quality, and the picture quality may be enough to make up the difference in size.
  5. There's already been talks of doing this in general terms, not specifically J&J, invoking the Defense Production Act: https://www.cnbc.com/2020/12/28/biden-will-invoke-defense-production-act-to-boost-covid-vaccine-production-advisor-says.html
  6. We just ordered this Chromebook from Costco for my wife. She wanted one for a particular purpose. Unlike some other similar models, this one seems to have a better screen, if the Costco specs are to be believed. I'll let you know how it is once we get it. Looks like a fairly decent mid-range model.
  7. Since it's a one and done, it might be useful as a stop gap measure to mitigate damage done by the virus, but it's not really helping in the long run. I wonder if it might not be better to have Johnson and Johnson gear up to produce one of the more effective vaccines instead of this.
  8. Let's see . . . Queen's Gambit (Netflix series): Very well-acted, one level removed from reality. Main actress is very good, to the point I actually want to watch that horrible-looking New Mutants movie to see her as Magik in it. It has been criticized for minimizing drug addiction, and those complaints have merit. It has female empowerment as a core theme, but is very shallow in exploring that theme. As a modern, if somewhat twisted, fairy tale, it's OK. Snowpiercer (Movie): Saw a Snowpiercer series pop up on one of my streaming services, so finally got around to watching the movie on Netflix. Was pretty good. Solid performances. Technically SF, based on the premise, but probably better not to think of it as such. Sweet Home (K-Drama, Netflix): Pretty decent monster apocalypse show. Effects were better than I'd expected. Ending set up a second season, will be interesting to see if it gets one. Seventh Son (B-Movie, Netflix): This is one of those movies where you know a lot of aging A-listers and younger ones, all really just needed a pay day. It fully deserved its 12% critic Tomatometer, and I think Alicia Vikander got it the 34% audience score. It was very reminiscent of an 80's fantasy movie, but without the heart. In the Shadow of the Moon (Netflix): Time travel murder mystery thing. Not great, but not terrible. Decent B-movie. Alice In Borderland (J-drama, Netflix): Based on a manga. People are mysteriously transported to an empty Tokyo, and forced to participate in sadistic games. Pretty decent. Some good performances. Hopefully, it will get a second season.
  9. As LL pointed out, there's plenty of meat on Skull Island, and Kong is an omnivore*, like all apes. *There are more technical terms for ape eating habits, that I can't remember, but they eat a little of everything so I'm just running with the blanket term. Apes tend to mostly eat plant matter and supplement with meat, though some chimp groups hunt a lot more. Usually other primates. Not hard to assume that Kong's species has leaned more toward animal protein given their caloric requirements.
  10. Wishing your wife and your family a speedy recovery, and the mildest case possible, Duke.
  11. I've had a hard time getting into it, and my guildmates are hardly on when I am. I'm just working on level capping my characters and when I'm done, will just wait for the next one. At the rate I'm not playing, I probably won't cap all of them by then anyway.
