  1. Re: Blocking and relative strengths After reading the great posts here, I've come up with a solution: Advantage: 'Hard' Attack +1/2 If an opponent successfully blocks this attack, they take half damage unless their str provides at least 1/2 the DC in the attack. Dexterous characters can use Dex in place of Str. End must be spent for blocking. I would also rule that blocking comes into contact with someone, where a dodge is total avoidance. This allows myself to have opponents that will challenge characters who are build to block, and keeps the rules more in the spirit of the game. Thank you again for the awesome info.
  2. This is a house rule I am considering for an anime-inspired fantasy game I'm looking to run. I'd appreciate feedback to help me turn this from a simple idea into a killer concept. The concept is to have the players have a sort of super-attack once they have had enough set-backs in combat. For example: A warrior who channels his rage into a mighty blow after he's failed to hit an opponent several times. A rogue who becomes nearly impossible to hit, or gains a free action to use to defend himself after being smacked around too much. A mage who can augment a spell on the fly after repeatedly failing to have his spells assist the team. Each player has a multipower pool using a charge reservoir for actions. Using the warrior for reference, we call this his Rage Pool. Every time he misses an attack, the reservoir gains a charge. Every time he takes body damage he adds a point to the pool. Attacks within the pool require certain amount of charges to be used: 5 charges for a melee attack to be considered a single AOE square with no range. 10 Charges to double the damage from a melee attack. Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions? Is there something better out there, or has someone attempted this before?
  3. I'm starting a new game soon that's a combination of Arthurian legend and Anime rules (yes, scary isn't it?). I have plans to modify blocking to have it work up only up to the strength of the blockee, +10 Str. So if a Str 20 person blocks, they can block up to 6d6 attack without problems. Has this been mentioned before? The main reason I'm adding it is to encourage players to use some of their powers or maneuvers more defensively.
  4. Re: Your character's theme music! For my character Ashley I'd have to say "No, It Isn't" by Plus 44 (song gets really good around the 2 min mark) Alagara, an elven spellcaster with a heart of gold and a Com score above 25, would have "Return to Innocence" by Enigma
  5. Re: Help with naming a spider themed character. Geez, I'm needing to change my underwear after those pics. at the thought of something even double the size is making me VERY paranoid right now. For a spider-themed character, send a message to spidey77 as he's an expert on them. Odds are he'd had plenty of suggestions. Now I'm off to the Walmart, to buy a bat to keep the spiders away.
  6. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... That, sir, is by far the best sentence I have read to date.
  7. Re: The fall of your character Ashley: Would most likely (and this is the method I'd prefer) end up fighting his nemesis in a final, glorious battle that would rob his opponent of his power. A the last moment, Ashley would save his life at the cost of his own, ultimately redeeming himself of his many sins. If not that way, odds are he'd die from brain damage from watching a Fox News marathon.
  8. Re: Your PCs might be Underpowered if... ... a zephyr is considered a party-killer ... the brick has to push his strength to lift a pebble ... the gadgeteer's VPP has the limitation 'Requires toothpicks and bandaids nearby' Whoa, that actually might make a cool critter-people game.

  11. Re: Character Post: Ashley Uhg, I hate double-posting. I might as well update Ashley's bio, since I have effectively retired the character (moved away from the group). After defeating quite the number of villains (including Interface, Grond, that jester Joker-like villain ... man did he get a beating, Haulocast ... beaten twice with a stun damage record that was most likely legendary, a Viper reptile-zombie virus outbreak an the leader of it King Cobra i think) Ashley eventually is found by Adrian, his nemisis. Adrian was strong enough to almost singlehandedly defeat the whole player group. Up to this point, it took GM scripting to have us beaten. There's a lot of stories that could be told of the battles that followed: attacks with 24d6 Armor-peircing, area attacks comparable to tactical nuclear detonations (underground too), super-heavy tables been tossed with the quip "Here's your table sir!". In the end, Adrian was defeated with a combination of Phidippus grappling him and Ashley learning a new trick (the ablility to power drain Telekinetic abilities by using his own to counter them). Ashley eventually started a secret ID: a bad-boy drummer with legendary skills. With Phidippus and Event on guitar, Horizon on keyboard, and the Elven beauty Alagara on vocals, they started a band that overnight was one of the best known. (Dr. Werewolf was their technician... LONG story). This eventually lead to Ashley eventually subbing for Saphire's drummer during a charity event, which jump started his career and a relationship with Saphire. Can't remember the details, but I'm sure there was a point that Nighthawk was so pissed at Ashley that his psycic aura was blistering as the sun. Wish I could remember the details.

  13. Re: Power Concept: Along for the Ride ya, but that's the easy way out This way i've got an offensive character and a defensive sidekick
  14. Re: Power Concept: Along for the Ride I was planning on using the character as a follower, would could be used to assist other players depending on the situation. Effectively, the follower would be the prime method of defense for the main hero
  15. Re: Power Concept: Along for the Ride Would the powers then only work while clinging on a voluntary target then?
