  1. They also have the option of bringing a character from somewhere else in the multiverse. Of course it'd have to be used sparingly but the option is still there. Personally, I'd like to see them give that treatment to Hawkeye and bring in a Hawkeye from elsewhere who looks and behaves like the Hawkeye from the comics. He was a fan favorite for a couple of decades and fans screamed whenever he was removed from the Avengers lineup. And Marvel made a huge deal of it whenever he came back. He was vocal. He complained, tried to grab leadership, was the best and knew it, never seemed like he acknowledged he was overmatched "just" because he had a bow and arrows, he had an eye for the ladies but wasn't obnoxious about it. There was a scene in Age of Ultron where Hawkeye was trying to buck up Wanda and is telling her something like "I just have a bow and arrows against an army of robots: none of this makes any sense". The comic book Hawkeye would have been telling her that He was the guy with a bow and arrows who was going to take down an army of robots then ask her "Are you with me?" And be projecting the kind of confidence that would make you think that he might actually be right. Or might just be over-confident enough to be off his rocker but either way, you'd want to be with him. Nobody who's a fan of the MCU is clamoring for a Hawkeye movie because the MCU version of Hawkeye sucked on several different levels. I don't mind if Kate takes over someday. But I don't want her taking over due to "the MCU version of Hawkeye sucked but we paid a big name actor to be in the role so we're going to replace him". Let's get a glorious Hawkeye who is recognizably Hawkeye (complete with a purple Hawkeye costume), celebrate him for a few years, then send him off to a well-deserved semi-retirement with the occasional cameo. . . "Why doesn't your quiver run out of arrows?" "Tony and Hank came up with some gizmo. I can stick a huge number of arrows in there but you only see the few that are on top."
  2. Iron Man, Iron Man Does whatever an Iron Man can. Can he swing on a web? No, he'd fall on your head. Hey, there! There goes Iron Man!
  3. I once watched an inning of a Rangers game where they brought in a pitcher after the first couple of batters in the inning (6th inning?) then eventually had to pull him from the game because he'd pitched over 100 pitches. And there was still one out to go in the same inning. I remember the score being 20-1 and not in the home team's favor. I'd guess it was 1996 or so because I skipped a Magic tournament in order to go to the game. I was shouting, "Play Mirror Universe!" which was funny as hell if you were a Magic player because 20-1 was exactly the best time to play Mirror Universe to swap scores with your opponent.
  4. Disney said that beginning Friday, face coverings would be required for all guests ages 2 and up while in indoor portions of the parks, as well as on Disney buses, monorail and the Disney Skyliner, regardless of vaccination status. However, Disney said that masks would still be optional for guests in outdoor areas. The reversal comes after Disney World in June announced that fully vaccinated guests would no longer need to wear masks in most areas of the Orlando park. https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/565424-disney-requiring-masks-for-parkers
  5. A study says, eating foods high in something or other could slow down something I can't quite remember, a study says. https://www.cnn.com/2021/07/28/health/flavonoid-cognitive-decline-study-wellness/index.html
  6. Can't say I know a lot of guys who were in prison. I did know I guy who was in prison for around 20 years until he was released because the state was finally forced to process the DNA evidence they had on all their cases. He seemed like a fairly normal guy with a sense of humor. He was making a living in construction. I don't doubt he was in a Hispanic prison gang because that kind of thing is fairly unavoidable and he had more tattoos than normal. But you wouldn't have guessed he was in prison unless perhaps you were versed in reading the meaning of tattoos.
  7. People who didn't watch the game?
  8. Olympic Observations Rep. Matt Gaetz tried to enter the women's 100m breaststroke after he found out some of the competitors were under 18 years old. . . . https://www.mediaite.com/news/are-you-a-pedophile-matt-gaetz-and-marjorie-taylor-greene-flee-presser-after-hecklers-shut-it-down/
  9. There's generic prescription medications that are dirt cheap. If this is going to be a continuing problem, get your doctor to prescribe you something. If you have a decent pharmaceutical benefit on your insurance or use one of those prescription discount cards, you're probably going to end up much cheaper in the long run with a prescription rather than OTC.
  10. They're supposedly over 101 degrees there. They should have a gentlemens' agreement to play three innings with two outs per inning then go to visit an ice house. Otherwise, they spend the 7th inning stretch recreating the "I'm melting! I'm melting" scene from the Wizard of Oz.
  11. Do you know if the US will be able to sub in someone or are they just out of contention?
  12. It's very cool that you know someone who knows someone. I've got an acquaintance who lives within easy viewing distance of the WB water tower but outside of being an extra a couple of times, he's not involved in TV or movies. (He's a streamer and his wife is a model. So I can hear some inside Hollywood kind of gossip in general but not about anybody who is -or was- somebody.) Out of morbid curiosity about Sorbo, was it him expressing repugnant political beliefs? Or was it treating everyone who he considers to be an underling like garbage? Or a bit of both? Personally, I've had to put up with a lot of people who run their mouths when they shouldn't and (before my brain injury) had a much thicker than average skin about such things. But treating people who are right in front of you like garbage has always been something which has always been a trigger for me. (I just finished watching binge the whole Andromeda series for the first time and enjoyed it a lot. The last season was rather odd since they abandoned the whole premise built up in the previous seasons but I still managed to enjoy it as well. So as far as your friend goes, he deserves an 'atta boy!')
  13. Free Suicide Squad screenings in select cities. Some cities are already "sold" out but try your luck anyway. https://www.thesuicidesquad.com/screenings/
  14. There was a lot of NBA talent on each team. Personally if I wanted to watch the NBA players play, I'd watch the NBA.
  15. I know it's impossible to control other people's lives but it's always sad to see a performer you enjoy taking public political stances which are the complete opposite of what you think they should.
  16. There's a lot of believers in a Hollow Earth who will point to shadowy crevasses in photographs of Antarctica and say "that's definitely an opening to a cave system which leads to Hollow Earth". And maybe they're right. After all, I haven't examined every shadowy crevasse in Antarctica.
  17. I think a Fu Manchu or a Yellow Claw would work well for China as a villain. Show him as a rebel against the status quo who gets his comeuppance by the hero as the Chinese army bursts down the door.
  18. Olympic Observations The Taliban team discovered that the boats in the sculling events weren't permitted to be made from actual human skulls.
  19. Olympic Observations The Polish archery team tragically discovered that the event didn't involve catching the opposing team's arrows.
  20. Olympic Observations The Irish team would have a better chance at winning long distance running events if they'd quit stopping at every pub along the way.
  21. Olympic Observations Rowing is very difficult in Greece.
  22. Well, the military didn't come out in favor of a coup. And a number of generals have come forward in recent days telling about the plans they had to stop one if they'd been ordered to participate. So I'd guess that it's very much up in the air.
  23. The National Guard is canceling trainings after Congress failed to reimburse the force for its months-long deployment at the U.S. Capitol following the Jan. 6 insurrection. All 50 states plus some territories participated in the deployments. None of them have been reimbursed. And won't be reimbursed until lawmakers come up with an emergency appropriation to cover the costs. With one of the political parties wanting to make it a point to stick it to the other and to deny that anything happened on Jan. 6, some sort of funding compromise isn't likely to happen anytime soon (to say the least). Whatever happened to supporting the troops in general whether you agreed with any particular mission or not? I've been hearing the drumbeat of that message for at least the last 20 years.... https://thehill.com/policy/national-security/564680-national-guard-cancels-trainings-after-congress-fails-to-reimburse
  24. 1) When I think of magic in general, I think of creating small and useful things. Sort of like a sleight of hand but real: bottle of water or liquor food small flame a coil of rope shirt pants hat coin bandages knife bird cat telescope 2) Disappearing similar small objects 3) Small effects on the magic user's person: slightly better running/swimming/STR/DEX/CON/etc. more charming to animals/people momentary levitation cleaning or dirtying his clothes mending his clothes or gear aura of fear/menace/power which deters or impresses others 4) A magic skill for one time powers like you see for some D&D cantrips like Thaumaturgy, Prestidigitation, or Druidcraft. Your voice booms up to three times as loud as normal You cause flames to flicker, brighten, dim, or change color You cause harmless tremors in the ground You create an Instantaneous sound that originates from a point of your choice within range, such as a rumble of thunder, the cry of a raven, or ominous whispers. You instantaneously cause an unlocked door or window to fly open or slam shut. You alter the Appearance of your eyes You create an Instantaneous, harmless sensory Effect, such as a shower of sparks, a puff of wind, faint musical notes, or an odd odor. You instantaneously light or snuff out a Candle, a torch, or a small campfire. You chill, warm, or flavor up to 1 cubic foot of nonliving material You make a color, a small mark, or a Symbol appear on an object or a surface Your moving finger leaves an afterimage so that you can draw very temporary writing or pictures in the air.
