  1. If you are familiar with the cartoon Ben 10, then you may be able to help me with a write up of a similiar character. Ben 10 is a normal kid who came upon a "watch". The watch when turned and pressed activates one of 10 different types of aliens. The watch doesn't come off, so it's not an OIF or a focus of any kind. I figured it is a type of multiform. When he turns the knob on the watch and presses it. That could be a gestures limitation (or at least a restrainable). When he presses the watch it sometimes doesn't work. That's an activation limitation. When he does change, it's only for about 10 minutes. Which can be considered a Continuous charges limitaion. (how many charges, I'm still not sure of) He can't activate the watch again for a while (we're talking at least an hour): Which limitation would that be? He also, sometimes, doesn't get to be the alien he wants to change into. He still changes, just not the one he wanted to change into: Which limitation would that be? Or would that be more on the order of Unluck? (which it seems he has anyways). Did I miss any limitations on this? Quozaxx
  2. Re: Alternate Earth/WWYCD - Enough? I must admid that I not only have posted and submitted a WWYCD thread, but I also have enjoyed reading past one. Also I must admit that there are quite a few, especially lately. So, I haven't posted or answered any since then. In fact, I haven't even read any lately. I will probably wait until the posting slows down again before even considering doing a WWYCD again. Which is why I started the "show your story telling skills" thread. It was at leat something slightly different. But I think that it'll get lost in the sea of WWYCD and Alternate Earth threads. Quozaxx
  3. This is a continuation of http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61543 Basically I submit a scene without detailed desription, mood, or atmosphere. Your challenge is to re-write the scene into something much better. All the information is at the above link. However, I'm going to change the 200 word limit to 400 word limit. And, as I stated before, I'm not counting the words in the submittals. One per "customer" only please. And now for the scene: Foxbat is hit by a pie. OK, places everyone, lights, camera, Action!
  4. Re: Show you story telling skills. I was inspired to write my own submission to the thread. It's over 300 words though. ------------------------------------------------------- A cold light sprinkle filled the air as the VIPER agent approached the condemend bar. He quickly glances over his shoulder searching the vacant street. The man returns his attention to the boarded up door. He shifts a large bag from one hand to the other. He finds his key. He suddenly looks back again at the vacant street. The scattered rain making a "tink, tink, tink" sound on the roof of the bar. He unlocks the door and enters. The bar was small, dusty, and vacant or people. Only a large rat scurries across the floor. As the agent starts to close the door he feels a quick breeze. He notices something silver out of the corner of his eye. He jerks around. Now standing by one of the dusty barstools, was a man, silver from head to toe. The Silver Speedster. The agent quickly reaches for his gun, only to find it missing. "Looking for this?" Silver Speedster says as he fingers his shiny silver hair absent mindedly. His other hand is holding up the well-known VB-S1 (shorty) blaster pistol. "Now look," the hero looks around the room. "You and I both know your no match for me, so why don't you tell me what you have in the bag and give yourself up?" The agent stares at the silver colored man for a minute. "Um, it's, it's a mirror. I bought it! You don't have anything on me! You can't prove anything!" "Oh, a mirror", Silver Speedster smiles, "I love mirrors, and I'm sure you won't mind if I take a peek at your receipt." In a flash of silver the hero has the large bag already in his hands. He pulls out an ancient looking mirror with a golden frame. The frame had engraved serpents on the decorative trim. But as the hero smiles at his own reflection, he feels himself change. Before he can move another inch, he is turned into stone. The agent carefully approaches the mirror from the back and puts the bag back on the mirror. The VIPER agents smiles as he pushes something on his belt loop. The agent immediately transforms into Mirage Mirage puts her communicator to her mouth and says "I got him for you with the Medusa mirror. Man was he easy to capture! So next you want Kinetik right?"
  5. Re: Show you story telling skills. These stories are GREAT! I just wish I has the talent to produce such masterpieces. I'm definately going to post another one after this one has been here at least a week. The next thread will be named: Next scene: Foxbat... I'll leave it unfinished until I get ready to post it. Just something to "wet your whistle."
  6. I would like to see some of the great story telling skills out there. This is how I'd like to set it up: I will give a basic "scene". A scene without mood, atmosphere, or detailed description. Your challenge is to turn that scene into a work of art. I'm hoping this thread will enlightned us (yes I'm talking about myself) who aren't the most descriptive of people. I would appreciate it if each person re-writing the scene to only post one re-write. That would give more people a chance to shine. Also, I would appreciate it if the number of words were less than 200 (aproximately, and no, I'm not counting the words). This will stretch your creativity to the max. Of course, comments on those re-writes are encouraged. If this turns into a popular post, I will issue different "scenes" every couple of weeks. Here is the first "scene": Your hero (or well-known CU hero) follows a well-known supervillain into a local bar. OK, Places everyone, Lights, Camera, Action.
  7. Re: WWYCD: Mindset I loved that question. So yes she is. Anywho, I was very suprised at the range of answers. From almost killing Mindset for doing it in the first place, to no - now let's take out Dr. Destroyer. Maybe this should have been an opinion poll thread. Quozaxx
  8. There is a new superheroine in town. She goes by the name: Mindset. Mindset's main power is to completely alter a villain's way of thinking. (A powerful transform). Since she has started, every villain she has come up against, has either turned themselves in, turned in their costumes (and confomed to a "normal" life), or have become heroes themselves. After some time she, (along with some of the reformed villains), approach you and ask if you'd be willing to help take down Dr. Destroyer (or equally powerful villain). (Assuming you decide to help). Plans are made. As the final day approaches, You notice that Mindset is getting a little nervous taking out someone that powerful. When she suddenly pops off the question: "Is it wrong to FORCE someone to change their mind?" WWYCD?
  9. Instead of a WWYCD. I propose a different type of situation: It's holiday season, and let's say your GM has given you a present. Not the normal type of present. An envelope. Inside of the envelope it says "Merry Christmas" (or whatever you chose to celebrate this time of year), "I have decided to give your character 25 bonus experience points." (or each of your characters, if you have more than one) What would you spend your xp on?
  10. Re: WWYCD/W:The gift Cornerstone would only ack for others, but only after thanking Santa for choosing Chirst's birthday for his day. Silver Speedster: "An intimite acting part with Angelina Jolie, no make that Jennifer Lopez, no Carmen Electra, no - I know all three!" Mark IV would ask for his memory to be restored. Super! Absorbant! Sponge!!!!! would ask to actually meet his favorite cartoon sponge.
  11. Re: WWYCD: The Seven Deadlies Cornerstone - who tries to uphold the virtues anyways. would (not necessarily in order) 1. Lust: Remind lust that he was a virgin when he met his wife, was always faithful until her death, and has remained vigilent ever since. 2. Gluttony: Fast for a day. It won't be the first time. 3, Greed: Give (after his 10% to the church, of course) all his paychech AND his time to charity 4, Sloth: Build a church 5. Wrath: Remind him how he forgave the VIPER member for killing his family. 6. Envy: Give away something that means alot to him. Since envy is desiring something you don't have. Giving something away seems the easiest. 7. Pride: Remind him that God gave him everything he has. Giving credit where credit is due. Silver Speedster: Um, he'd probably befriend Lust. Mark IV: Would research the sins and confront each one. Since he has no emotions/desires, he may win. Super! Absorbant! Sponge!!!!! Lust: He'd ask too many questions Gluttony: Ok, only 1 hour a day of his favorite cartoon sponge. Greed: SAS! is a giving sort. Sloth: OK, maybe only 1/2 an hour. Wrath: Oh, SAS! is not wrathful, What did you say about my favorite cartoon???? (and probably get into a lame fight). Envy: No I'm not envying people who watch a whole hour, what were we talking about? Pride: A good cartoon is all he has pride in. (I mean have you seen this guy in action?)
  12. If Hero Systems, ever came out with an "official" Champions comic book, would you buy it? I know that in the late 80s early 90s there was a comic based on the Champions, but things have changed since then. Would you like it displayed in comic book stores, Gaming stores, or both?
  13. After capturing the criminals responsible for robbing an art museum. You touch one of the more fragile works. A small piece falls off. Out of the newly found hole in the artwork, a genie emerges. He thanks you profusely, and is eager to get back to his own dimension. But to show his gratitude he want to grant you one wish. If pressed for details, he will tell you that somehow he was encased in the artwork. Apparently the artist didn't even know he was in there. The genie believes that the artist is a mutant. The genie tells you that he has made sure this wouldn't accidentally happen again, by dampening the artists power, but not his artworking skill. The genie has been in the artwork for five years now, and simply wants to return to his home dimension, but wants to grant you that one wish first. WWYCD?
  14. Re: What are you playing now? Currently playing: Cornerstone: A overly religious brick type character with Earth Powers. Super! Absorbant! Sponge!!!!! A character from "The Tick's" universe. He grows when he he gets wet. Has accounting skills (and contacts), Plus he has a power to put to sleep villian - with boring conversation. Formerly playing: Silver Speedster: A speedster, and actor with a vain personality Mark IV: An android. - Never got to play him much.
  15. Re: WWYCD: Once bitten . . . Cornerston's own holy power cross would probably give him troubles. But he would not take it off and head immediately to his church and ask the pastor how to cure this "affliction" He would NOT believe that he is undead, just sick. Silver Speedster would wonder how this would affect his acting career. He would play around with the new abilities until he started to have blood cravings. Then he would start looking for a cure. Mark IV - Um, can an android be turned into a vampire? I mean he doesn't exactly have blood. Even though it WOULD be interesting. Super! Absorbant! Sponge!!!!! Well, I'm sure the vampire would spit out the gross watery type substance that that used to be blood. But after that SAS! (Short for the hero's name) would go to the top of a building and try to fly. After he plummets down and gets back up, He'd realize he probably turn into a bat first.
  16. Re: WWYCD: Harem Comedy from Hell Cornerstone would tell the wizard he doesn't approve of magic and if she'd really like to persue a relationship there are ways to do it. And this isn't it. The cult leader he would tell her you only worship God. The dimensional lord he would say "Satan why do you continnally try to temp me?" Silver speedster would say. "Ok, this is how it goes. First no killing my admirers. I'm famous and handsome and they can't help it. But besides that. Let's see, you (pointing to one) get Mondays, and Thursdays. You (pointing to another) get Tuesdays and Fridays. And (pointing to the last) you get Wednesdays and Saturdays. I get Sundays off to recouperate, or (he'll say with a smug grin) we could try something... let's say more creative. Any questions?":whip: Mark IV would say "Even though I am anotomically correct I am unsure whether I could - comply with your request. Is it normal to have 3 suiters at once." Needless to say Mark IV would be courious enough to try - um, different things. Super! Absorbant! Sponge!!!!! "OK who puts you up to this?"
  17. Re: WWYCD: Welcome Divinity? Cornerstone would say "You have tempted Jesus with this before Satan. 'Get thee hense'!" Silver Speedster would just say "No thanks, what's the thrill in that?" Mark IV would say "I do not think that I am ready for such an undertaking. I would rather work my way towards my goals." But he would ask a LOT of questions - about everything. From his personal history, to Star Trek's "Q", and so on. Super! Absorbant! Sponge!!!!! would say "Sure!" and I suspect not long after that, the newly enlightened dieties would realize their obvoius mistake.
  18. Re: WWYCD: The Coverup Cornerstone would sincerely console the sidekick. But them remind him gently that only God knows what really happened He would help the sidekick realize that God has forgiven the hero, and that without knowing for sure what happened that day- it would be best to move on. Silver Speedster wouldn't see the point of dragging this out. Mark IV would say that taking out the villain by sacrificing himself was a logical decision. Anything else would be conjecture or hear say. Super! Absorbant! Sponge!!!!! wouldn't have a clue what to do or say. This type of complex thinking is not his cup of tea. He'd probably hug the sidekick and ask him if we wanted to hang around for a while.
  19. Re: WWYCD "super" registration Cornerstone would register immediately since he already has a public ID. But would concentrate on capturing or erraticating larger evils - like demons. Silver Speedster (also Public ID) would oppose "forcing" people to register. People have families they need to protect. He would probably use his Actor status to publically oppose it. - Oh, while looking good, of course. Mark IV (Public ID), would register, but question why others have not registered. "We are supposed to obey the law. Is that not correct? If you do not register, is it not my civic duty to bring you in?" Super! Absorbant! Sponge!!!!! (secret ID) would push up his glasses, adjust his spongy stomach, shake his -always wet finger- at a congress person and use his best Presence attack yet. "You know, we, like, have loved ones to protect. So you should really, kinda, um, not force people to do that sort of thing." He would not register and continue to change from his secret ID (blue tie) to his Super ID (brown tie).
  20. Re: WWYCD: Dead before your time... Cornerstone would know you only die once, and then go to heaven, so he would think either 1: It's not real or 2: God somehow spared him at the last second. Either way he would spend time in prayer, fasting, and meditation Silver speedster would try to see how fast he can run now. Of course, he would have to get over being scarred first. Wait, messy hair! No, wait, Silver Speedster would track down the one who killed him. He would make them PAY!!! Mark IV would be courious and try to find out who reactivated him first. Super! Absorbant! Sponge!!!!! would run back to his house, see if it's still there, and wonder how many episodes of his favorite cartoon sponge he has missed.
  21. Re: WWYCD: We hope you're feeling better now Cornerstone would be very disturbed by the fact that he may have been hero worshipping all this time. Confess his sins, and repent. He would be happy to see his family alive, and probably have to decide what he would do with his life. Silver Speedster would just say "Quick give me a mirror! I still look like me right? Right????? " Mark IV would be human. He would have memories (hopefully) of his "real" life, and go from there. Super! Absorbant! Sponge!!!!! - well, let's just say I'm not sure if he was ever sane. So he would probably still see if he could quote a certain sponge based cartoon word for word still.
  22. Re: WWYCD: Halloween From Hell 2007 Cornerstone would go after the demons first. Quoting scripture every chance he could, having faith that would send them back from wence they came. (You don't see the word "wence" that much anymore.) Silver Speedster would probably try to keep tabs on them. Following them when possible. Of course, checking his reflection out every chance he got. Mark IV would research Halloween and probably think this is just par for the course. He would go to a store and dress up, probably in the first costume he sees, (no matter how silly), and follow some trick-or-treaters copying what they do. (Even though he doesn't eat.) He would be eager to see what kind of "trick" the kids come up with if they don't get a treat. Super! Absorbant! Sponge!!!!!, of course, would be dressed up as his favorite cartoon sponge character, and probably not even notice the monsters are real.
  23. Re: Halloween Themed Session...ideas? I specifically remember a Fantasy Hero halloween "episode". My brother was the GM. He turned out the lights and lit the candles. The heroes were helping move some stuff around in an old castle, his NPC had just inherited. It was, of course, a dark and stormy night. The NPC had found some candles in a box. The NPC lit the candle (as did the GM), and had us "cristened" the room with our words as our heroes sat in a circle, and took a turn and held the candle. Of course, we players held a candle, and role-played it. Not long after that is when it got weird. We were slowly picked off one, by one, starting with ALL of the NPC. Not only did we have to try to defeat the strange attacks (one character tried to leave by the front door, and was eaten by a dragon - his Psy dias.). We also, had to face one disad or another. (One of my characters had a code against killing and could shrink stuff, he shrunk a box to move it, and killed the living animals inside - I think they were kittens.) As it progressed, our characters actually died! One by one. And we couldn't escape either. When the last character, was about to die. (by this time my brother was pacing the room behind us, talking quietly.) He reached out quickly and shook us awake. Yes, awake. The candles were nothing but a hallucination infecting candles. (NND not being able to breath.) An NPC who had entered late, had walked in us, while we were still seated around, in a circle, still holding the candle. We had a dazed look on our face, so he woke us up. It may not fit your campaign. but it was THE most memoriable halloween "episode" we had. Quozaxx.
  24. Re: Animated objects I never even thought of TK. That's a great idea! Possibly with continuous or uncontrolled (destroying object) and area effect. Hmmm Any other ideas?
  25. Let's say you want the power to animate objects or you just want normally inanimate object to attack people. You know any object. A stuffed animal, a car, a lamp post, etc. In the realm of a game, this would probably be a plot device, without REALLY needing a "power'. But I'm curious. How would you build this power. All of the objects would have a DEF and BODY according to what they are. Plus, unless they have legs (like in the stuffed animal example). Movement would probably be pretty limited. (Of course, they could hop around like the Pixar's lamp. But they would have to be flexible.) A separate character sheet for each item would be insane. Summons seems to be the most "realistic". Possibly with Amicalble, Expanded class of beings, weak-willed, and Must inhabit local. But how powerful would you make the "beings" summoned? Would you need continuous? How many "X# of beings" would you need to animate almost anything? Any other thoughts instead of summons? Quozaxx
